Julia sighed when her mother left. Of course she had come to see her and she had erupted in tears but after telling everything and letting her mother hold her close she felt better knowing that someone knew what had happened in its entirety.  She surveyed herself one more time in the mirror. She had adorned a deep purple cotton print dress with a bit of pearl coloured lace at the waist; it was something she had once bought to a casual lunch at college. She was shocked to have found it and more so when it fit her, well more like hugged her frame and lay sculpted across her bust. She had tugged on a creamy coloured scarf, feeling somewhat self-conscious and had brushed back her hair before stepping back. Maybe it was what had just happened but she suddenly felt that the slightest show of her skin was inappropriate. After one last look she slipped on a pair of bright orange flip-flops that Jenna had leant her and then left her room. Her feet stopped on top of the stairs and she stared down. Her thoughts ran on the first meeting when she had met him, his child and his wife to be. A deep sigh shook her body as she closed her eyes and tried to blink back the tears. She had no idea if she could ever go back or close to that kitchen. Something warm touched her shoulder and she looked up to see Gabe standing next to her, his hand her shoulder. “U ok?” he asked. She smiled slightly and he tugged her forward. “I came to find you in case your sister had plans for me I saw her eyeing me and talking to your mother and I don’t know, I think it got me scared a bit.” Julia laughed before following him.

“Come on you guys I’ve been waiting ages,” Jenna cried, “I’m starved.” She pulled Julia towards the top of the table and seated her and might have tied a bib too. Julia smiled as Gabriel seated across from her. The dishes were already arranged, a mass of things that Julia had no idea about. She did know however that she had a ton of Pecan pie and she did not know what they would do with them. She sat back and sighed, hoping that everything would vanish as she sat there. Her mother entered carrying an ornamental silver tray covered with a transparent plastic cover. She smiled at them and then set it down before she sat down at the top close to them. Jenna plopped down beside Julia and then everything was set. “I wish Mark was here,” Jenna said and Julia smiled slightly. “He said he would be here soon,” her mother said. “I wish dad could be here too,” Julia said. Everyone looked at her and she shook her head. “Mother you didn’t did you,” Her mother looked at her and then shook her head. “Don’t,” was all she said before she took a deep breath. Whatever had happened she did not want her father to get more worried.

Everyone clasped their hands and then Jenna said a short prayer of thanks. A few minutes later and they were digging into a delicious tomato soup graced with hints of basil and thyme. Julia ate slowly, looking at her bowl and wondering when it would end. “Soo…” Gabe started. “It’s nice to finally meet all of you and it would be a pleasure to have met Mr. Hastings,” he said, “but I understand the situation and It will be a pleasure to meet him sometime.” Jenna smiled and thumped the table. “I’m sure dad would love to meet you too,” she said, “To me you seem like an awesome boss.” Gabe laughed and then looked at Julia. She blushed.  “I would like to think so after all it’s not just her I have to look out for,” he said. “Oh,” Julia’s mother said. He nodded and Julia became beat red. “Please don’t do this?” she pleaded internally. “Um yes I’m sure you know,” “Um I don’t,” she pressed. Gabriel looked at Julia and then his eyes widened. “Please noo!” she begged. “Am I think she would have told you,” he said.

Julia gulped. Her hand was gripping the soup spoon so hard her knuckles were white. She could have spelt out the words as he brought on her doom….” T.H.E. B.A.B.Y.” Instantly a spoon dropped. Julia sat there red faced, she could feel her mother’s heated gaze upon her. “Julia,” she barely whispered. Julia turned to her and shook her head. A sigh escaped her lips and she leant back. Her eyes found Gabriel’s and she held his stare before he pulled away his gaze. “Mom I’m sorry,” she said.” Her eyes roved around the table and Jenna’s hand held hers. “It’s ok Juju.. Mom you aren’t going to quiz Juju after what happened right?” Jenna asked. The was a moment of silence before her mother finally spoke. “Julia I’m sorry,” she said. There were hot prickles behind her eyes as she sat glued to the chair. She shook her head before getting up and letting her feet lead her. She could tell them both of them that she was not pregnant and let it be but then she could play out the scenario that would happen if she did.

<<<<<<She could see it perfectly, “Mom, Gabe I’m not pregnant.”>>>>>>>> “What,” Gabe would cry, “You’re fired after all this time and everything that this company did for you, you cheat, everything, everyone who trusted you and that unborn child they thought you had,” he would sigh and she wound just sit there red faced as he got up walked around to her and point at her saying that she was a disgrace to the company and to everyone.” She might have stared at her mother for support but she could only imagine the two of them saying how bad a daughter/ employee she had been for doing what she did.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

On her legs carried her, eyes now flowing freely now. She tugged the scarf tighter and looked at everyone before striding away. “Julia,’ her mother called. “Juju,” Jenna echoed. She turned at the door and then decided to let everything go. No more she would have to lie, maybe she might lose her job but maybe it was the right thing, her little white lies had begun accumulating too much greatly and she hated piling more lies into the little basket she had started out with.  She had crossed the door that had led to the living room and then she had turned. “I…I…. The door creaked open behind her and her eyes widened. The figure stepped in and she threw herself at him.

“Baby Ju,” he cried hugging her tightly. Mark held her close as he looked at the table ahead of him. She clutched him, there letting her tears flow. He held her rocking her slightly as he said not a word. He pushed the door open and let them out. There were benches on either side of the house and he tugged her along to one of them. They sat down and she held her face in her hands. “What happened Baby Ju?” he asked. “Did it have anything to do with him?” he asked. She looked up momentarily to see who he was talking about and remembered that he must have seen Gabriel. Her words spilled forth fast as she told him everything. From the work to what had just happened. He shook his head when she was done. His jaw was set and his hands were clutched at his sides. “Where is he?” he grit out. Julia sniffled and told him. He got up. “Where are you going?’ she cried. He stared at her a long moment before taking her hand. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here sooner Ju but now that I am I can’t just let some Pr.ck do this not to my sister, not to this family.

“I can’t help you with the man inside there who believes you are pregnant but I can help with the man who is behind bars at this moment, I will make him pay for what he did, I’ll make him regret the day he did this to you. Julia stared at him before shaking her head. “Let it go Mark,” she said, “It’s over, he has a baby, a wife.” The tears stung her eyes as she said it. “No Julia he has a D.ck and if he thinks he can use it on any woman that he wants he has a lot coming for him.” His hand slammed on the porch and he looked at her. “Tell mom I went to see Tyler,” he said and then vanished into the last of the evening light. “Mark! Mark!” she called but she knew he would not come back now. Tyler was his friend from college, he was the deputy and Julia knew that Mark would not come back until he thought he had gained justice.
