Chapter 37

It had been 3 months since the threat. Life had gone on without Brooklyn. I didn’t party anymore; Mason was spending more time with Gigi. I went to training, and came home. The spring fashion show was cancelled due to issues with the line. And I was kind of glad. I hadn't been called to go into the studio, which was also a plus. But I was definitely at my lowest point right now.

The more I stayed away from Brooklyn the more I realised I loved her. The more I tried to convince myself that this was a just an infatuation that would pass, the more I longed for her.

I was sitting in one of our lounge rooms drinking brandy and wallowing in self pity when my phone buzzed. I looked on the screen to see Brooklyn flashing on the screen. I didn’t pick up. She called about six more times before she gave up. Leaning my head back on the couch I sighed in exasperation. Avoiding her was the best solution.

"Hey Dyl" Chelsea said as she sat down on the empty space on the sofa, next to me. "How have you been?"

"Why are you being so... Nice?"

"Look we may not be tight but kicking people while their down is not my style. So what’s up?"

"Nothing" I said my voice more high pitched than I intended, clearing my throat I continued "nothing much".

"You've been avoiding Brooklyn's calls. I know because she called to ask me if you were alright coz you weren't answering your phone".

"Did you guys have a fight?" she asked, I stayed silent. "I’ll take that as a yes." I still stayed silent. "You really do love her don't you?” I turned my head away from her. "I'll take that as a yes again. But err... Gigi called to let me know that she's leaving for Paris in a few minutes." turning to look at her I said,

"What makes you think I care?"

"I never said anything about caring but after Paris it’s straight to Brazil".

"Your last chance to stop her from making the worst decision of her life".

"I can't believe I’m doing this"

"Is there any reason not to? You love him, he loves you"

"Hmm, Dylan didn’t even pick up when I called"

"New York, you really need to get over him. You’re getting married in three months. To another man"

Brooklyn's eyes drifted over Gigi's shoulder to see Dylan standing there. He was breathing heavy. He'd obviously been running. Walking up to him she said "I tried to call you"

"I know"

"I'm leaving today"

"I know. I don't want you to go"

"Give me one reason why I should stay"

Dylan contemplated telling her about her dad's threat but that could backfire in the worst way. She'd think I was insulting her father. I thought about telling her that I loved her, but I could never end up with her. Her father'd never allow it. Finally I thought about kissing her. But with the amount of people at the airport word was bound to spread to Claude.

"Flight 307! Last call for passengers in flight 307 to Paris"

Brooklyn searched Dylan's eyes for an answer. "Well?" she asked him again.

"I'm sorry... I can't. It was... Nice knowing you"

Brooklyn's face fell, "It was nice knowing you? That all you can f#*king say?" tears streamed down her face. "I’m leaving this place for good and all you can say is it was nice knowing you. I'm about to marry another man. I think I have feeling for you, say something to make me stay. I love Pablo, but he doesn't look at me the way you do..." she said touching his face. I relaxed into her hand before I stepped back and said.

"Brooklyn I...I can't. There’s nothing I have to say". The heartbreak and anger in her eyes was unmistakeable.

"I hate you Dylan Ryder. I hope you have a good life" she hissed before roughly wiping the tears from her face and walking into the terminal with Gigi.

"You didn’t see her off"

"Ha-ha I saw her off in a different way if know you what I mean" Mason said to me a grin on his face.

"Not the time Mase. I get it you got the girl" I said a little harsher than I intended.

"You love her Dyl. YOU love her, so why are you sitting on your a*s sooking about it?"

"You wouldn't understand"

"Try me"
