Sweet Rejection

Chapter 12

I woke up with a smile when I see her soundly sleeping beside me. What had happened yesterday was something I wouldn't regret. It made me more stupid but then my soul was happier.

I reached out my hand and stroke the strands of her hair that blocked her face. Her mouth was slightly opened. I smiled as she still slept like that. Somehow, her new heart couldn't change everything about her. Some stayed the way it was. Just like how my baby sleeps. She moved a bit and I withdrew my hand. Afraid she might wake up and horrify we made love.

My phone rang. I immediately answer it away so her sleep wouldn't be disturbed.

"Good morning, this is Doc Maraguinot." I said on the phone.

"Yes. Yes. Dr. Maraguinot, I need you now at the OR. I'm sorry but I have to pull you out. We're very lacking of staff."

"Okay, I'll come there. Right away, doc."

"Thanks, Jho. I owe you dinner later. See you." Ara replied and hang up the phone.

I got no chance to object about the dinner thingy as she hang up the phone already. I hurriedly took a bath and got ready to leave. As I wear my clothes, I looked up to the woman who slept in the bed and slipped my thoughts of how we would be today if she didn't stop loving me. I shook it off and left the room.

"You're too early! Duty mo ba today, Jho?" Jia poked me at the back. I didn't realize she was here as I'm in a hurry.

Nilingon ko sya at saka huminto ng hakbang para makasabay ko syang maglakad.

"Napull out ako ni Doc Galang. Kulang daw sila ng staff." sagot ko sa kanya.

Jia then didn't reply. I looked at her. She's not looking at me. Kaya naman pinalo ko sya sa braso.

"Hoy, anyare sa'yo? Saan ka ba nagpupunta kagabi. Tinatawagan kita, di ka sumasagot sa phone mo!"

Napalingon agad sya sa'kin sabay hawak sa brasong pinalo ko.

"Aray naman! Umuwi ako sa'min. Tsaka naiwan ko phone ko sa kwarto nung tumawag ka."

Napabuntong hininga ako. Mabuti na lang at di sya umuwi kundi baka ano pa maiisip nya pagnakita nya si Bea sa condo.

"O, ba't tahimik ka dyan?"

Napalingon ako sa gawi nya. Madali nya talagang napapansin yong katahimikan ko.

"Wala. Halika na nga. Naghihintay na si Doc Galang sa'tin."

"Ikaw lang hinihintay nya at hindi ako!"

Sinamaan ko sya ng tingin at ngumiti lang ito sa'kin.

"May pupuntahan akong conference ngayon. Oblige tayong pumunta, ikaw lang ang excused since pinupull out ka ni doc Galang."

Naalala kong may grand conference pala kami. Di ko man lang naisip yon dahil nakatuon lang ako kagabi kay Bea.

Napabuntong hininga ulit ako. Nagpapasalamat na napull out ako dahil hindi ko pa alam kung papaano ko haharapin si Bea pagkatapos ng nangyari.

After operation

"Thanks, Jho. Sunduin kita mamayang gabi at 7pm for dinner. Wala ka namang duty sa gabi." she smiled.

Magrereklamo na sana ako pero inunahan nya agad ako.

"Please. No buts. Mauna na ako sa'yo."

Napailing na lang ako sa kakulitan nya.
