Chapter 34: Trouble At Tenrou

Normal POV

  The members of the guild, mainly the participants and their choice of partners, had already arrived at the sacred ground which was dubbed as Tenroujima. The exams was already partaking even before they landed on the island. Makarov Dreyar, Fairy Tail's dwarfed sized master, had already given their first task. It was to swim their way to the island and choose a cave where they'll either face an S-Class member or another participating pair. There is a possibility they would end up spared by choosing the lucky route with no enemy or whatsoever. It was safe to say that the examinations began with a rather lively start.

Natsu and Happy
Cana and Wendy
Juvia and Lisanna
Levy and Gajeel
Freed and Bixslow
Gray and Mest
Elfman and Evergreen

  Those were the pairs that participated in the exams.

  Unfortunately for Juvia and Lisanna, Freed and Bixslow, they failed to pass the first part of the exams, rendering them off the lists of the possible members that will end up as S-Class at the end of the day. Meanwhile, the rest of the participants was allowed to continue on without more hassle. The second test was announced to them, a mystery was to be unveiled and a limited time limit was given to each of them. They were given the task to find the first master's grave which was located somewhere in the island. It was a mystery that was proved to be hard to solve. Even Levy Mcgarden, the guild's bookworm, had a hard time deciphering the riddle.

  "Ah, it seems that i have quite a lively bunch this year." Fairy Tail's master muttered to himself, gazing at the distraught Levy who was being tailed by the iron dragonslayer. He was sitting on top of a hill, overlooking a wide forest when he caught a glimpse of something blue. Upon following his earlier glance, he saw one of the participants, the solid script mage to be exact. He kept his gaze on her and her partner until they pass the clearing. They were soon out of his line of sight. Sighing,  the old man soon stood up and ventured into the forest.

  He maneuvered his way effortlessly to the far east shore of the island. There, he settled on a rather lonesome tree where he awaited the arrival of his guests. Soon enough, he caught sight of a small boat silently riding the waves to reach Tenrou. Five people was aboard it, all wearing matching black cloaks to cover their identity. Fairy Tail's master waved the incoming visitors over as soon as they reached shore. The five mysterious figures didn't even hesitate to follow.

  "I'm glad you all could make it." Makarov said, smiling at the small crowd gathered around him.

  "We couldn't say no to such hospitable offer." The tallest replied kindly which impressed the Master. He concluded that they were as mannered and composed as her.

  "Still, i know that you're still not ready. Despite that, you traveled all the way from your peaceful abode just to come visit me." He looked straight at the smallest member who slowly removed the hood that sealed her identity. Her blonde locks swayed freely with the wind as if they were freed from their prison. Her chocolate brown eyes softened as they gazed upon her previous master.

  "I would never throw away the opportunity to have my family and second father to meet. You've done so much for me. That's why i want my brothers and cousins to know the person behind my current strength." Lucy Heartfilia declared, earning a chuckle from Master Makarov. This confused the blonde—well,  all of them.

  "We both know that that's a lie. I'm afraid that i'm not the person responsible for this strong lady before me. It's them. Most specifically, him. Right, dear child?" This made the Celestial Mage blush. She knew exactly who he was referring to. And it seems that her family has a faint and vague idea as well. He did traveled across Fiore just to find her.
