Penny's POV

It had to be the worst hangover of my life. I slept for about another 2 hours after talking to Brian. Adam called me and apologized, he said he felt terrible and that he and Brian had worked everything out. He told me I was fine to take two extra days for my next treatment until Brian was home.

I had a lot to do once I got to Ohio. I was very careful at the hospital, I had to be there for my family. Adam didn't seem as worried about my exposure risks as he had been and was very supportive of my being there.

Once Mom was out of recovery, I saw her and drove back home. I had a surprise for my family and Brian when we returned to Springfield and I had to work on finishing it. Between visiting Mom, working on the surprise and trying to spend time with family and friends I was very busy.

The best part of being there was Trick or Treat with my two favorite princesses, it was great to be there and share that with them. I had missed so much and even though Brian would be home soon, I would still have to stay in California for treatment.

At least this stupid illness would not be able to deprive me of the man I love anymore. I had a countdown app on my phone that kept track of the hours and minutes until he came back. We talked as much as we could and what happened with Adam was never mentioned.

I was at Ohio State University Hospital visiting Mom a few days before I was to fly back to California and Brian would finally be home. I decided to stop into Dr. Callahan's office and say Hello. The receptionist remembered me and Dr. Callahan came out to greet me and we went back to her office.

"It's good to see you Penny, where is Brian? Did you two have fun once you joined him on tour?"

"I still haven't been cleared by Dr. Gabriel, I head back to California soon and then Brian will be back from the tour.

"I don't understand; you were better months ago, Dr. Gabriel didn't tell you?"

"You must have me confused with another patient."

"Penny, I don't have you confused with anyone. The last time you were tested here, you were fine. I can pull your file and show you the results."

She pulled my records up on her computer and printed out the test results, I couldn't believe it when she showed me. It was right there, the first of July. I was stunned and couldn't speak.

"How? Why?" Was all I could get out.

"Dr. Gabriel said he would tell you. I wanted us to tell you together, but he said Brian wanted it to come from him." She looked at me with concern, I was still speechless. "I had no idea that you weren't told. Penny, are you okay?"

"Thank you for showing me this. I have to go." I left abruptly, taking the printout with me. My head was hurting, I could have been with Brian months ago, before his birthday and our anniversary.

I called Adam, hoping he had some sort of explanation of why he had deceived me all these months. I had trusted him and became close friends with him, he couldn't have done this.

"Hi Penny, how's your Mom?" Adam asked cheerfully.

"Mom's fine. Guess who I just talked to?"

"Who?"

"Dr. Callahan" I could feel Adam's tension over the phone line after I said that.

"Oh" He mumbled.

"Is that all you have to say after you have been lying to me for months?"

"Penny, I don't know what to say."

"I thought we were friends. Were you hoping that I would sleep with you? Is that why you kissed me? Did you think I would fall in love with you?"
