Smiling is much better than scowling, and singing is much better than yelling. So why do we find ourselves frowning and yelling at times? Yes, there are things that insight justifiable anger and outbursts, but so much of the time we find ourselves unhappy with no discernible reason. We gather possessions and don't find happiness, plunge into desired relationships without finding satisfaction, and sometimes even give to charity without finding peace of mind. I believe so much of our loathing comes from self indulgence, or the idea that we can provide for our spirits as well as bodies. We forget we have a loving God that set aside His Holy Spirit to tend our souls. Nothing we can do can replace what He can achieve in our hearts. When we don't have a song, He has one, when we don't have desire, He can plant it, when we don’t have peace of mind, He can sooth our souls. With Him, we can rest assured of many songs to be sung.
