Chapter 5 – It just might be okay to……fall.

My jaw drops, wide-eyed. I jump out of my chair, quickly retreating behind Rex’s lean figure. “Snake,” I choke out shakily, staring to tremble at the sight of him. “Hi?”

“Linx, babe, where have you been all these years?” Snake purrs, smirking from across the dark marble kitchen island.

Okay, maybe, I shouldn’t have lied to Oliver about Snake being dead. But I really wasn’t expecting him to magically appearing in my damn kitchen. Sigh here.

                “Nowhere,” I stutter, tugging on Rex’s t-shirt lightly. “Uh….”

“Babe, who the f*ck is he?” Snake growls, glaring at Rex with black eyes. Silence. “LINX!”

“I’m her boyfriend!” Rex snaps, standing up and moving behind me. He throws his arms around my shoulders, swaying us side to side.

Fury flashes in Snake’s dark eyes he lunges for me over the island. “Does this little runt know about you scar, babe?!” He shouts, trying to grab me.

I slip out of Rex’s arms, trying to make a run for my room. Or, well, any where else. My heels slow me down, letting Snake snag my shirt, tearing it off.

                F*ck.

My back faces Rex’s piercing eyes, letting him get a perfect view of Snake’s name carved into my back. I squeeze my eyes shut, hearing Snake chuckle.

“You asshole!” Rex yells, furious by what I can tell. “Linx, go up the god damn stairs!”

I nod, dashing upstairs and catching a glimpse of Rex swinging his fists at Snake. I run into my room as fast as my legs can carry me. I slam the door close, leaning against and panting.

“HOLY CRAP! You scared me!” Oliver says, covering his heart and breathing heavily. “Uh, why don’t you have a shirt?” His eyebrows tie together, unable to stop staring at my chest.

Tears start streaming down my pale face, causing my vision to get blurry. I gulp, trying to get a much air as humanly possible. “Oliver, h-he’s here.”

“Who’s here, Linx?” He asks concerned, walking over to me and grabbing my bare shoulders. “Linx, tell me.”

                “Snake.

His eyes widen in shocked. A serious expression quickly covers his face, masking all shock. “Linx, go in the closet and hide, okay?”

I sigh, shaking my head. “But Oli-,”

“Just do it please.” He commands, pushing me in the direction of our walk-in closet. I nod, curling up in a ball in the corner. “I’ll be back.” He whispers, turning off the closet light and closing the door.

I hug my knees tightly, hearing loud thumps coming from downstairs.

                Then sirens.

I squeeze my eyes shut, drifting into my dark and haunted dreams.

“Linx, dear,” A kiss gets planted right on my forehead, making my fling my green eyes open in a mila-second.

                Oliver.

“Oliver,” I murmur, wrapping my arms around his neck tightly. “Thank so much!”

“Oh, no, no, no!” He says, returning my hug. “I just called the cops. Rex did most of the, uh, work.” He chuckles in my ear.

“Where is he?” I ask, releasing him from my death-hug.

He shrugs, frowning. “I have absolutely no idea. Last I saw of him was when the cops came and he took off muttering something about three strikes.”

I laugh despite everything, shaking my head. “He would be worried about that and not the rapist in the kitchen!” I frown, suddenly on edge. “Where is Snake?” I whisper, starting to tremble, again.

“Somewhere far, far away.” He coos, stroking my hair softly.

I quickly stand up, making Oliver give me a weird look. “Um, I’m going to find Rex.” I say quietly, running over to our closet and pulling a random shirt over my head.

I dart out of our room, running out of the house. I look around for Rex, seeing something big move in the tree. I sigh, shaking my head. I walk up to the tree, scaling it in an instant. I reach where Rex is, noticing him rummaging through a bag.

“Hi,” I exclaim in his ear, making him nearly fall out of the tree. “Scoot over!”

He smiles, scooting over on the thick branch he’s sitting on. “Hey, Linx,” He says, eyeing me as I sit enxt to him..

“Rex,” I smile back, poking him on the arm. “Three strikes, really?” I laugh, watching his face go red. “You would be concerned with that.”

“Well, if you had two strikes, wouldn’t you be concerned, too?” He asks, raising an eyebrow at me.

“Oh, honey,” I scoff, waving his comment off. “I have way more than two strikes! Are you kidding me? I haven’t had two strikes since I was eleven.” I shrug, looking into his big blue eyes.

“Good,” He gets closer, his eyes staring at my lips. “I like that in a woman.” He mutters, pressing his lips on mine, once again.

                Oh, this is nice…

I kiss back, putting my hands in his hair. He puts his hands on my waist, pulling me on to his lap. I flip over on his lap, facing him. I press him against the tree, kissing him harder. He grins into the kiss, putting his hands on my butt. I gasp, letting him slip his tongue into my mouth.

He’s practiced this before, many times. But, damn, this boy is good.

It just might be okay to…….fall.
