Chapter 8: "You Don't Mind?"

I walked into the living room, and sat down next to Michael on the couch. My parents were sitting in there, too, which is why I came out. I was so nervous about telling my parents about Gage...

I mean, yeah, they knew Gage. Like I said, I went to St. Mary's for 9 years, and he was in my 13 person class. You know, I grew up with him.

"Um, guys," I started and they all looked at me. I felt my palms get sweaty, and wiped them on my jeans, "will you pause it, please? I have to tell you something." I told Dad and he nodded, pausing his show.

"What's going on?" Mom asked and I glanced at the TV, thinking of how to say it...

"Uh, well," Michael locked eyes with me and smirked. I rolled my eyes, "um, I should probably tell you that I wasn't with Kali and Anna yesterday..." I trailed off and played with the cross on my necklace, glancing between them both.

"Well, why would you lie to us?" My mom started going off on me, and my dad made her shut up.

"Who were you with?" He asked and I cleared my throat,

"My um, my new boyfriend..." I said quietly and they just stared at me. "Yeah, um, Gage and I are together, now." I said and Mom raised her eyebrows,

"Why didn't you just tell us?"

"How long has it been?" Dad asked and I felt Michael set his hand on my back. I glanced at him and he nodded for me to tell them.

"Since the football game." I said softly and my mom laughed,

"Honey, that's great!" She exclaimed and my jaw dropped,

"Are you serious?"

"Yes! To be honest, I thought you were gonna say Michael." She said and I bit my lip, thinking, 'Wow. Really?' I felt Michael squeeze my back slightly and he chuckled,

"No, I think I'm just her brother." He said and hugged me, pulling me back against his chest. I laughed a little bit and put my hands out beside me,

"Yeah, this is a real good look. Bro." I said solemnly and he laughed. I grinned and looked back at my parents, "I swear, I'm only dating Gage."

They laughed and my dad nodded,

"If he hurts you, you know I'll have to kill him, right?" He said and Michael raised one of his hands,

"I'll help." He said and I rolled my eyes,

"You couldn't hurt Gage even if you tried." I faced him and grinned,

"Well, what if I changed? And ended up being more buffed than him?" He asked and I chuckled,

"You're funny, Mikey." I patted his arm and he let me stand up. I looked back at Mom and Dad, "So you guys don't mind?" I asked and my mom stood up, hugging me,

"No, of course not. We're happy for you. Gage is a great guy. Is he making you happy?" She pulled back and looked at me. I smiled and blushed,

"Yes. Very." I chuckled and moved a piece of hair behind my ear.

"Well, I'm glad you told us." Mom said and walked into the kitchen. Dad nodded at me and I gave him a high five before glancing at Michael and walking outside.

I was sitting in the grass, listening to Even If It Breaks Your Heart, waiting to get a text from Gage. I was so glad my parents approved. I knew they liked Gage in the first place, but I wasn't sure how they'd react.

I started thinking about yesterday, and I felt my cheeks get hot when I thought about him giving me his hoodie, and when he gave me the most passionate kiss ever.

I was singing the words to myself, still smiling like an idiot, when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It startled me, and I jumped slightly, looking up to see Michael. I turned the music down as he sat next to me,

"God, you keep giving me mini heart attacks, you know that, right?" I grinned and he chuckled,

"Eh, you're alright."

"You okay?" I asked and he nodded,

"Yeah, why?" He looked at me and I leaned against his side. He put his arm around my back and held me closer.

"Has Luke said anything about talking to his mom?" I asked and he looked ahead at the open field across the street,

"No...he hasn't gotten to talk to me, yet. I'm pretty sure he's talked to her already, though." He said and I nodded. "If he does pull it off, you'll really like his mum, Liz. She's so awesome." He told me and I chuckled lightly,

"If she does this for Luke and the other 2, I will have no trouble believing you." I said and he giggled.
