Chapter 44: Tears

"Sa'n ba kasi tayo pupunta?" I asked my soon to be brother-in-law for the nth time pero nginingitian niya lang ako pag tinatanong ko. 

"Why can't you just wait till we get there?" Greg said while still focused on driving. It's been 30 minutes since we hit the road but I'm not sure kung sa'n ang destinasyon namin. I feel like we're going out of the city. How can I even enjoy some dinner when I don't know how to talk to Alvy? Sabi ni Myla, we should act fast kung ayaw naming may mangyari kay Alvy na masama. But I can't just drop the bomb like that to Alvy. He's been hurt too many times already. I know that he'll hardly swallow everything.

"We're here." I was awakened from my deep thoughts when the car stopped. I looked around and I saw trees. Bumaba ako ng sasakyan para pumasok sana sa isang pathway pero agad akong pinigilan ni kuya. 

"Wait! Not yet!" He said. "We still need to wait for the go signal!"

I creased my forehead. Ano bang meron ngayong gabi? People are acting unusual today. Pati na rin yung ibang interns kanina sa ospital, kung makaingiti sa'kin kanina parang super excited sila. Ang aga pang umalis ni Alvy kanina. 

Kinuha ni kuya ang phone niya at may tinawagan siya. "Why isn't he answering?" He said while pacing around. I can hear the other line ringing pero mukhang walang sumagot.

"Ano nga kasing meron? Nasaan ba kasi si Alvy?" I asked. My patience is wearing thin. We're standing here outside for almost 20 minutes already. I can see lights coming from a certain area at mukhang dun kami pupunta pero bakit ayaw naman akong papasukin? 

"Weird. He's not answering." Greg kept on calling someone, which I assume is Alvy but he's not getting any response. "Wait here. I'll just check inside." He pocketed his phone and he was about to start running but he stopped when his phone started ringing. He immediately answered whoever was calling. 

"Hello?... Yes? What?! Anong nagyari?!... How did that happen?!... She's with me... Yes... Okay... We'll be right there." Greg has a worried look in his face when he ended the call and looked at me. I don't know, but from that instant, I know that something bad happened. My heart started pounding hard. 

"Dennise... Si Alvy..." He said with hesitation in his voice. 

"W-What happened to him?" Thoughts are rushing into my mind. I started trembling. As a doctor myself, I can easily read what Greg's face was trying to signal. It's the same face we use whenever something happened with our patients. 

"Ella just called. She said Alvy was rushed into the hospital." 

And from that moment, I almost fell on the floor. My knees started getting weak. I feel like I lost all my strength in my body. My brother immediately rushed to my side to support me. 

"Hey. Don't worry. Ella said that he's not critical. Let's just go there first. Okay?" 

I felt a flicker of hope when I heard what he said. I nodded and tried to stand up. Greg supported me and helped me get inside the car. He abruptly went into the driver's seat and drove fast but with caution. I kept on praying during the ride that Alvy will be safe. Na sana walang nangyaring masama. I can't help but think that this maybe one cause of his psychosis. As Myla said, he will keep on hurting himself. 

I almost flew out of the car when we arrived at the hospital. I saw Ella outside, waiting for us. 

"N-Nasan si Alvy?" I cried as I approached Ella. 

"He's fine. His results are out and nothing serious happened. Just a mild concussion and some cuts and bruises. Buti na lang at hindi ganun kalakas ang pagkabangga sa kaniya. But he's still unconscious. He's in his room right now."
