21. Deal with the Devil

Ji-ah's POV:

The ride to the hospital was mind-boggling, the world seemed quiet as if time was slowed down every second felt like an eternity, and multiple thoughts were rushing through my brain at once, Is history repeating itself? Am I going to end up alone once again? Am I going to lose my family again? Countless questions and not a single answer. All there was left was uncertainty. The taxi came to a halt bringing me out of my trance. The door opened on its own, all thanks to the fine gentleman here, I stepped out of the taxi and Han seojun pulled Omma out, taking her in his arms, he rushed into the hospital and I followed in his steps, My wailing was turned into silent cries now.  Just as we walked past the hospital doors, the environment turned chaotic, before this everything felt like it was happening in slow motion, but not anymore. All of a sudden the lobby turned tumultuous and noisy.  It triggered my anxiety and I couldn't hold back. My tears didn't remain silent any longer.  Nurses came rushing toward us with a stretcher as Han seojun called out for the Doctors. The doctor came with a stethoscope around his neck, he checked Omma's heartbeat and her pulse. After checking a few more things he asked to take her to the ICU.

Han seojun moved Omma on the stretcher, as the hospital staff rushed her to the emergency, we both were running along with the stretcher but couldn't move past the ICU doors. "Please wait outside," The Nurse told us and just as the doors shut, the hospital turned silent, the air felt chilly and all I could hear were my own sobs and painful cries.  I kept pacing before the ICU, I was constantly rubbing my face to wipe the tears but they kept coming. Suddenly I was stopped by Han seojun, he grabbed both of my hands in his and looked me in the eyes "Stop doing that, your face is already red, you'll scratch yourself" He told me in a very soft voice that I could barely hear him even in the stone-cold silence.  His touch stirred something inside me and I couldn't control myself I wept harder as he wrapped me in his arms, "I can't lose her" "I can't lose her" that's the only thing I was saying, my face buried in the hollow of his neck and his head resting on top of mine as he was trying to shush me by whispering sweet words in my ear but I couldn't make out any of them. 

He made me sit on the bench outside the ICU and kneeled before me, his hold was still tight yet gentle on my hands. He slowly rubbed my fingers with his thumb as he talked to me "She's gonna be alright. Halmeoni is a strong woman, nothing will happen to her, she's a fighter" his voice cracked a bit at the end, his eyes red from unshed tears. I nodded at him and he gave me a reassuring smile when I heard Emmo's voice. We both turned our heads to look in her direction, she was running towards us with a worried Han go woon beside her. Emmo also looked extremely worried.  I got up from the bench and she enveloped me in her embrace. Han go woon was engulfed in a hug by her brother. I broke the embrace, and saw Emmo's face, she wiped my tears with her fingers, then she cupped my cheeks in her hands "It'll be alright! We're here with you" Han go woon was the next to give me a hug, and we all stood there, praying for our the survival of our lifeline.

We waited for a few hours, I'm not sure how many but finally the doctor appeared out of the ICU and we all stood up, staring at him with hope, he removed his surgical mask and said "She's out of danger -I just heard these words and my tears finally stopped, relief rushed through my body, but that was not it, more was about to come - for the time being," The doctor completed his sentence, and my brows fused together "What do you mean by that?" Han seojun asked him. "She had a mini-stroke, and with her health condition it was lethal, she's lucky that you got her to the hospital in time otherwise she was not gonna make it" 

Ji-ah: "Is she gonna be ok?"

Doctor: "We performed angioplasty and stenting to improve the blood flow to her heart, but she's still susceptible to aftershocks and heart attacks, one more stroke, and....." 

Han seojun: "If she's still in danger then what have you done huh? Have you even treated her?" 

Han seojun was yelling and Emmo asked him to calm down, the doctor excused himself and the nurse came "The patient is unconscious but she will be awake in a couple of hours"
