I looked down the hall at the tan-skinned boy that used to be my best friend. But high school began and he changed. A lot.

Some girl clung on to him as he tried to shrug her off. Zayn was always that way, he could never be mean to a girl, no matter how annoying she was.

I shut my locker, still feeling a little hurt at the fact that he could just forget about me like that. And that quickly. I glanced at the boy once more before walking away.

I heard the laughing of a group of boys coming from the other side of the street as I walked home. I looked over to see that it was Zayn and a couple of his friends, playfully wrestling and laughing. One of his friends saw me looking at them and started laughing. "Dude, who let the dog out?"

"Does the pound know you're gone?" The other boy said before laughing along with the other. Zayn met my eyes for a second before I looked down, quickly walking home.

I slammed the front door as I walked into my house, glad that no one else was home yet. My eyes pricked with tears at what had happened and that Zayn hadn't even bothered to stick up for me. I ran up to my room, tossing my bag to the side. I sighed and calmed myself before grabbing my laptop. The doorbell rang. "You couldn't have got here before I ran up the steps. Stupid person." I muttered.

I walked downstairs and opened the front door to find Zayn standing on the other side, his hands buried in the pockets of his hoodie. "Um.. Hi." He said.

"What do you want?" I said. That was harsh, I thought. Oh well. He deserves it.

"I just wanted to see if you were okay."

"Don't worry, Zayn. This dog is perfectly fine."

    "I'm sorry." He said quietly.

"Save it, Zayn. You couldn't have stuck up for me? Wait, let me guess, you'd lose your precious reputation." I could feel fresh tears coming.

    "Sam-" I cut him off.

"No, Zayn." I looked at him seriously. "You've changed since high school began for us." My voice cracked. "And I'm sick of it. You're no longer Zayn Malik, my best friend. You've become Zayn Malik, high school dirtbag." I turned to walk back into the house when Zayn grabbed my wrist, pulling me back to him.

"Samantha, just listen to me, damn it." He looked into my eyes. "I'm not a dirt bag like all the other idiots in that school. The only reason I changed was because I liked you. A lot. More than a person should like their best friend.  But.. I saw the guys you liked. The dark bad guys. The jocks. So I changed. I became like them. Then I lost you. So I gave up on trying to make you like me because it was obvious that you and me was never going to happen. So I just.. stopped." I searched in his eyes for proof that it all was a lie or a prank that his 'friends' has planned. "I'm sorry." He whispered. I pulled him in for a hug.

"No, I'm sorry, Zayn." I mumbled into his shoulder. "I had no clue."

He pulled away and looked me in the eyes. "Popcorn?" He called me by the nick name he gave me when we were little.

I smiled. "Yes, Rockstar?" I used my nickname for him.

"Can I kiss you?" He whispered. My heart seemed to stop for a minute as I nodded. Zayn leaned in and placed his lips against mine.

Fireworks exploded as we kissed, I wrapped my arms around his neck as his went around my waist. Zayn pulled away, breathless, just as I was.

"Date me." Zayn said after a minute. "Be my girlfriend."

"Of course." I said, grinning. He kissed me again.

I finally get my best friend back.
