Chapter 46

Jamie Part 2

"Baby?" I sit up
Her eyes weakly look at mine
"Water" she croaks

I run out the room and come back with a nurse
"Hi Dakota how are you feeling?"

"She wants water"

"I'm sorry hunny you can't drink liquids but what I can do is have you suck ice chips . Is that okay?"

"Y-yes"

The nurse leaves and I sit next to Dakota
"How are you feeling?"
She looks at me with drowsy eyes.
She winces as she tries to sit up.
"No baby don't move. You're recovering"

"How long have I been here?"

" 2 weeks"

She inhales sharply
"My head hurts" she touches her head and goes over the bandage.
She looks down at her leg cast and panics

"Shhhh baby, breath you're fine. You're okay now . I'm here" I caress her cheek

She brings her breath at a minimum speed
"I'm scared"

"No baby I'm here now. I got you"

"My head"

I push the nurse button and the nurse comes in with ice chips and a needle
"Okay hunny this will remove the pain. But you'll feel a little sting" she injects the medicine through Dakotas right hand through her catheter
"Owww" Dakota croaks

I squeeze her other hand and she looks over at me and smiles.

"It taste good?" I ask

"Mmmmmhmmmm" she pops another mouthful of vanilla icecream

"Dakota." The Doctor says as he walks in "you look great"

"Thank you" she smiles

"Your recovery has been remarkable and I'm very impressed"

"She is a strong girl doc" says Don

"Yes you are"he looks at Dakota

"Well I have signed your discharge paper becasue I know that nearly 2 months here is horrible"

"Ugh yes"

Everyone laughs

"Well then it's set" he walks over to Dakota "you're finally going home. You're just going to keep up with physical therapy and your medicine "

"Yes sir "

"Alright then"

She turns to me and grabs my hand and looks back at the doctor
"Thank you"

The doctor leaves and Don Johnson approaches Dakota
"Great now you can come home with us"
She looks at me
"I want to go with Jamie"

"Dakota-"

"Don.... Dakota wants to go with Jamie. What's best for her right now is a stress free environment"

Her dad rolls his eyes and kisses Dakota on the top of her head and shakes my hand
"I have to go I have a meeting with ABC , I think you'll be okay?"

"Yes daddy"

He walks off and Melanie says their good byes and so does everyone else.

It's just me and Dakota alone.
"You sure you want to be with me"

"Yes" she moves over and indicates me to sit down next to her so I do as told.

I embrace her and she rest her head on my chest.

I roll the wheel chair towards the car and carry her in the car

"Goodbye Dakota and good luck" calls one of the nurses that's been with us since day one

"Thank you"
I shut the door and we roll out

"I have a surprise for you" I pull her carefully on my lap
"You do?" Her eyes and smile widen

"Mmmmmmm" I reach behind the seat and grab the bunch of red roses.
"Hold these" I pass them to her and use both hands to grab a small box

"I know you have Zeppelin but I figured he needs a sister"
I take out a baby beagle
"Oh my god" she drops the roses as I suspected and grabs the puppy
"Ohhhhhh my god look at you" she kisses it's nose over and over
She finally looks up
"Jamie you shouldn't have"

"I figured she was something we both can have together"
She shifts in my lap and kisses me and I place my arm around her and pull her tighter
And the puppy yelps
Dakota giggles and we set off to the apartment.

"This is your temporary home" Dakota says quietly to the puppy showing her the hotel room
I put the bags down once inside and kneel besides Dakota who's on the wheel chair
I grab a hold of her hands and say
"I'm glad your here with me. I'd die if you would have gone with your parents"

"I can't imagine being anywhere else"

I grab the puppy from her hand and settle it in the small cage I bought.

"You need sleep" I tell her

"Can't the puppy join us"

"No, besides its sleeping already"

She pouts and hugs me "please"

I roll my eyes and smile "fine I'll bring the mutt"

I get the puppy out of cage and we head to the bedroom.

She's dressed in a pair of my sweats and t shirt.
And she's laying facing me with the puppy snuggled and sleeping between us
I caress her cheek "I love you"

"I love you too"

"Sleep baby"

"Kiss me"

I comply and she begins to deepen the kiss and pull apart

"No... You're wounded and-"

" I miss your touch"

"After all you've been through I'd be taking over your vulnerability"

"You need to erase his touch" she whispers with watery eyes.

When she says that it burns in my heart because it's the first time she mentions him and I know exactly what to do.
I kiss her lightly

"Come here" I sit up

"Where are we going"

I pick her up.
She looks at my eyes and places her head on my chest and we head to the bathroom.

"I'm going to wash him away"
