You couldn't wait to meet your soulmate, or to realize who it was. And you couldn't help it but blush when a few names popped into your head at the thought. Well, really, it was only one name.

Remus Lupin.

And speaking of Remus, the boy was on his way towards you. "Do you like your mark?" He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck as he sat down next to you, a small package in his other hand. You nodded, right about to answer verbally when he asked another question. "Do you want your present now? I figured it would be a good time, seeing as the others are a bit...." He cleared his throat shortly. "Occupied?" You let out a laugh, glancing at James and Lily who were being bombarded with questions from Peter with Sirius listening intensely, a big grin on his face.

"That would be lovely." You replied, smiling, making Remus give you the small package. It was a violet silk bag, with a matching ribbon tied around it. You gave Remus a thankful look before focusing on opening the light present. The soft fabric brushed against your fingers as you took out the object inside. You felt a chain, and some kind of pendant in your hand, and once it was finally out of the bag, you realised what it was.

A golden necklace with a pendant in the shape of your favourite flower. It was almost too pretty to wear, and it looked so fragile you were scared to even be holding it. Then it dawned on you. It must have been really, really expensive...

"Remus... It's beautiful but I can't take it..." You felt awful at the thought. "It must've cost you a fortune!"

"Don't worry! It's worth every galleon." He smiled genuinely, making eye contact. "Here," he reached out his hand. "Let me..." Gently, he took the necklace from your hand, gesturing for you to turn around. And so you did, holding you hair out of the way, so he could close your necklace properly, feeling the cold chain on your skin.

"Thank you, Rem." You turned back around, giving Remus a hug. It felt weird at first, but you didn't want to let go. Ever. So when you did, and you looked into his golden eyes, you leaned in. And so did he. Slowly. Slow enough for you to feel calm, focusing on the butterflies in your stomach, pulling you closer to him. But also slow enough for the thoughts to race through your mind, making it become a clutter of worries.

Therefore, you couldn't help but feel relieved when Remus coughed and looked away. "How-" He tried to speak but something was holding him back. Maybe it was the awful tension between you, maybe it was the awkward air around you. No matter what it was though, he didn't finish his sentence.

He didn't really have time to either as Lily popped up, out of what felt like nowhere, asking you what your mark looked like. "Oh yeah!" You let out, still unfocused, trying to sort out your thoughts.

"Tadaaa!" You pulled up your sleeve again to show them the beautiful half moon you'd gotten. Lily gasped loudly. "It's gorgeous!!!" She immediately grabbed your hand to study it closely, causing James, Sirius and Peter to come look as well. You couldn't help but feel nervous as Remus also leaned in. However, he simply made a face you couldn't quite read before going back to where he was sitting, looking awfully quiet and a little disappointed...?

Your heart sank, and while Lily still held your arm, you zoned out. You felt like crying... If Remus was your soulmate, then he definitely would've said something... right? So why didn't he?

"Y/n?" Sirius waved a hand in front of your face, making you shake your head lightly to refocus. "It looks amazing!" Peter piped up, admiring the detail just as you had been doing earlier. "Wormtail's right! It looks rad!" Sirius complimented, lifting his eyebrows, poking your mark. "Who do you think your soulmate is?" James asked, a look of anticipation on his face.
