I have been cursing too much, but this is not the time that I think of anything else―Cain met an accident.

Hindi ako mapakali at lalong hindi ako makapag-isip ng tama. We just had our conversation before I went to see Elaine and this happened. Ang tumawag sa akin ay si daddy. Sinabi niyang nandoon na rin si mommy at maayos naman daw ang lagay ng kakambal ko. But that is not enough assurance. I need to see him with my own two eyes.

Pagkababang-pagkababa ko pa lang sa taxi ay agad na akong tumakbo papunta sa hospital room ng kakambal ko.

To my surprise, no one from our parents was there with my twin. Only a nurse who must doing her rounds.

"Oh, kayo po ba si Sir Cade?"

"Y-Yes." Hinihingal pa akong sumagot. Napatingin ako sa kakambal kong natutulog bago tumingin ulit sa nurse. "Where is our parents? Kanina pa ba siya tulog?"

Ngumiti sa akin ang nurse. "Okay na po si Sir Cain. Umalis naman 'yung mga magulang niyo kanina at nagbilin lang na hayaan kayong mag-stay dito kapag dumating na kayo. Sir Cain should be awake in a moment, kanina pa po siya tulog."

Tumango na lang ako at nang umalis na ang nurse ay naupo ako sa upuan malapit sa kama. Cain then wakes up.

"What are you doing here?"

"To see you, asshole. Why else? How are you feeling."

"Better." He tried to sit down, so I helped him. "Today's Elaine's birthday, you shouldn't left her like this."

I did not know what to say. I know it should be obvious why I am here, but I already have a feeling that he has a worse news for me.

"You guessed right." Para bang nabasa rin niya agad ang sinabi ko. "This was the last time you would be seeing Elaine, so I would've have preferred that you stayed with her."

Sinasabi ko na nga ba.

"Nag-decide na ba si mommy?"

Tumango siya at bumuntong hininga. "There is nothing we can do, you know? She caught us. They caught us."

"What did they want us to do?'

"Migrate? Hindi ko pa alam pero sigurado akong hindi na natin makikita si Elaine. I doubt that they will let us explain nor say goodbye to her."

Parang sumikip ang dibdib ko at bago ko mapagtanto, umiiyak na pala ako.

"I'm sorry..."

Agad kong pinahid ang mga luha ko. "No, it's fine. It's both our fault. Wala naman na tayong magagawa..."

Pareho ulit kaming napabuntong hininga.

He then smiles and changes the topic. "What did you get her?"

"You mean our gift?"

Ngumisi ang kakambal. "No, dumbass. Your gift. We already brought her a gift last week. I know you prepared something else."

Doon na ako natawa. "Ah, oo. You already what it is."

"You finished making it? When did you finish it? I thought you were going to give up..."

"I though so too." I smiled to myself remember my hardships making it. "It's my first time doing it, but it was all worth it."

Someone knocks on the door and it was another nurse. We did not mind her.

"Are you sure you're not going to make way to at least say goodbye?"

Umiling ako.

I can never say goodbye to Elaine.
