This is not a retelling. It's what happens when the ritual breaks.

A bunch of gender ambiguous kids try to overthrow the corrupt government, but they have to save themselves first. TW: descriptions of blood & injury, swearing, animal death, child abuse, child neglect, allusions to self-harm, manipulation, and descriptions of panic attacks. Plot stuff: The world has been taken over by a person from another world, one who can live forever (Deus--Omnia), who then split it into nine orders of being, and three physical levels of the earth. Mortal: The lowest rank other than dead. There are types of mortals called "Mortal Helpers" that are seen as slightly better than the rest, and as possible future Neutrals. Neutral: Neutrals are constantly watched by the Immortal patrol and have to follow very strict rules. Usually, neutrals barely talk for fear of being seen as treasonous. Immortal patrol: The Immortal patrol is split into two groups; the knights and the fallen. The knights are a higher power than the fallen, the banned being Immortals who are basically punished with manual labor. The Immortal patrol switch between levels the most often, but still rest in the Immortal level. Immortal: Stuck-up suck-ups to Deus--Omnia. Before the world was this way, Deus--Omnia granted his first few followers and their future family the highest rank other than Immortal guard and God. Immortal guard: The Immortal knights that succeed the rest become guards for Deus--Omnia's castle/mansion/I haven't figured it out yet. God: Deus--Omnia's family, not including himself. Deus: Only Deus--Omnia.
