Third Person's POV
After a few episodes of the drama they watched, Jihyun slowly drifted off to sleep, still leanin on Baekhyun's shoulder as he had an arm wrapped around the girl. Both of them leaned against the headboard of their bed.
Baekhyun only realized that the girl was sleeping when he turned to check on her. He smiled to himself as he just watched her sleep, listening to her steady breathing at the process.
He only snapped out when Jihyun's head slowly slipped off his shoulder. He chuckles, holding her in place.
He proceeds to turn off the laptop and placing it right beside him. Then he turns again to Jihyun and gently helped her lay down on the bed.
"Mm..." he hears her moan softly as she shifts slightly. Then he pulls the sheets over her before fixing things up.
After that, he slips underneath the covers, turning to face Jihyun.
Baekhyun smiles again. "I will wait as long as it would take..." he whispered.
He leaned over to place a gentle kiss on her cheek before drifting off to sleep.
The next day came, their last day on the resort. Jihyun woke up first and woke up facing Baekhyun, with a weight on top of her waist.
She looked down, seeing Baekhyun's arm wrapped around her and she smiled, caressing it.
She looked back up at Baekhyun and just took that moment to admire his sleeping figure.
"Sometimes I just cannot get over the fact of how handsome this guy is," she thought to herself, chuckling silently.
She sighs and gently lifted off Baekhyun's arm to prevent him from waking up. Then she silently made her way out of bed and went on to prepare for the day.
After taking a bath and all, she still found Baekhyun asleep on their bed which made her realize what time he actually slept last night. Then she remembered that she fell asleep on him.
"Aish... Stupid, Jihyun," she mumbled to herself, feeling her cheeks heat up.
She decided to shake that off and head off to grab their breakfast and also some coffee. But of course she made sure to leave a note for Baekhyun so that he wouldn't worry and wonder where she went.
And it did help, as Baekhyun woke up and panicked a bit when he saw the empty space beside him. But upon reading the note, he chuckled to himself slightly.
"...Thank you for making me feel warm for your embrace..." he also read out loud. His brows furrowed slightly, thinking about what that meant. But then he realized that he forgot to put a division between the two of them last night.
"Baekhyun, you idiot! What could have happened if she didn't like it?" he groaned to himself.
Jihyun, on the other hand sat at one of the tables in the dining area to wait for the food to be done.
"Jihyun?" she hears a voice right behind her.
The latter turned, her eyes widening slightly upon seeing who it was.
"Choimin," she utters, "Good morning."
Choimin smiled. "Good morning to you too. Are you here to get breakfast as well?"
Jihyun nods her head. "Yes, I am. Baekhyun is fast asleep so..."
"Mhm. Would you mind if I join you?" Choimin asks.
"Sure thing."
Jihyun shuffled slightly in her seat as Choimin went to sat opposite her.
"So, how were things with you and Baekhyun yesterday?" Choimin asked.
"Oh... Things went great," Jihyun answered yet quickly adding that, "I-It would be great with you guys too. How about you and Chanyeol?"
"Oh... Yeah... Things went well too," Choimin lied, since she never really spent time with him anyway. She had to be thankful that she never ran into Baekhyun and Jihyun as she roamed around the place yesterday.
"About you and Chanyeol... Are you guys...?" Jihyun continued to ask hesitantly.
Choimin's eyes widened and her cheeks reddened as well. She looks away, shaking her head. "N-No... Like I said, there is nothing going on between us," she answered.
"Really? I have noticed how well you two are getting along these past few days," Jihyun replied.
Choimin gathered up her courage and faced Jihyun again, this time with a smirk. "Why? Don't tell me you're getting jealous, Jihyun," she laughed which the latter joined along with.
"I actually was," Jihyun thought to herself. "But right now I am hoping that he could distract himself as well from things already."
"Chanyeol and I are just catching up on a few things, nothing more and nothing less," said Choimin with a serious expression. She was afraid that she might have stepped on a mine as she did not received any answer from Jihyun.
Then a call from the counter interrupted the two and Jihyun stood up. "Well... I have to get going now," she said and Choimin nodded.
"I'll see you when I see you."
Jihyun nodded, smiling and walking off with a wave as she headed over to grab her breakfast and coffee.
She dreaded to hurt Baekhyun, she actually does continue until now. But she is starting to have less doubts that things would go on smoothly from now on.
But this time, she was more concerned for the other guy.
Chanyeol's POV
"Who the hell..." I groaned, reaching out for my phone with my coffee in the other hand.
I looked at the caller ID and nearly dropped things when I saw who it was. I cursed myself as well for the words that just went out of my mouth due to it.
But the phone just kept ringing in my hand. The world seemed to slow down as I tried to gather myself up while currently breaking down and panicking.
My heart felt like it was literally hammering my chest, especially when I decided to answer it already.
"J-Jihyun? Why did you call?" I asked immediately, not even knowing what to expect for an answer.
"Chanyeol... I need to talk to you."
I took in a deep breath, trying to calm myself. "About what?"
"You'll just know when I say it. When are you available?"
I nearly choked on air. "I-In person?"
"As much as possible yes..."
I sighed, still trying to keep myself together. Aside from the fact that I haven't spoke to her for a long time, even on the phone and the fact that she was the one who approached me then wants to talk about something was just nerve-wracking.
"Alright... Would fifteen minutes from now be fine?"
"Mhm. Where could we talk?"
"Just meet me at the lobby later."
"Okay... Alright... Bye."
And before I could even respond, she already hang up.
I stared at the blank screen of my phone, still trying to sink in what just happened. And when it finally did, I started questioning myself again.
What does she want to talk about?
But before I ponder even longer than that, I quickly got up and made myself ready for later.
When I hopped on the elevator, my heart started to go crazy again. It was almost I could hear every beat.
Calm down, Chanyeol. Calm down.
But no matter how much I chanted in my head, it doesn't seem to make the situation any better. In fact, I felt my hands start to sweat little by little.
And when I arrived at the lobby, I felt like my heart stopped.
Especially when I stepped out and immediately saw her standing a few meters away from me.
Jihyun's POV
I told Baekhyun about meeting up with Chanyeol beforehand, but didn't go into with the details. I am glad he didn't ask, though I think he already have a clue about what I was about to do.
We already disposed our plan of avoiding each other, so I want to see how things really changed themselves already. I want to test it and see.
And to be honest I am nervous. But the feeling was mixed with excitement as well because I think I have done good anyway.
And if I can finally face him and have more control over things from now on, I can finally say that I did it.
I decided to stay at a spot he would immediately see me, hence I stood by the pillar just parallel to the elevator.
And finally, upon many times I expected him to come out, he finally did.
I inhaled sharply, suddenly feeling nervous again. But so far that was just it which made me remind myself to gather myself.
And when I did, I managed to catch the surprised look on his face. To be honest, I would be the same if I received a call from him as well while remaining in that state.
I pulled off a small smile, walking towards him who seemed frozen a few feet from the elevator.
"Hey," I uttered.
"H-Hey," he replied.
I suddenly felt that pang in my chest that I turned away. It rang to me that this guy has feelings for me too and I am just about to end things right here.
Nevertheless, it was the point of everything we have done anyway.
"Want to catch some fresh air outside?" I asked him.
"Sure thing," was the only thing I heard from him and I began walking. I don't really know where I am supposed to lead him but I guess I can talk with him on the go.
Finally, we arrived outside and I started talking. "How are things going on?"
"Huh?"
I chuckled silently, then repeating the question as I turned to face him. His eyes widened ever so slightly as he turned away. "Good... I guess..."
I sighed, "You and Choimin?" Until now I still couldn't help but have questions about the two of them. Normally I would really feel the pain and jealousy, but right now it is like those two feelings are just trying to get their way to me yet there isn't anything else they could longer do for damage.
Like I said, as much as I am doing good, I hope Chanyeol is too.
"T-That's nothing, Jihyun... There is nothing going on between the two of us, I don't want you to get the wrong idea," he answered. I could tell the sincerity by the tone of his voice making me sigh again.
"Is that so?" I uttered, nearly whispering, "I somehow wished it was the case."
"What?"
I turned to him again and he looked confused this time. I decided to just give him a smile and continue on my walk.
Nothing else was uttered between the two of us as we just walked side by side. Then I decided to make a halt by the seaside again.
"Chanyeol," I called out, turning to him. "I already let go..." I suddenly blurted out. I didn't really know where I got the push to say this.
Chanyeol didn't face me though, he just remained his eyes out in the horizon as he let out a small scoff.
But I gasped inwardly when I saw his eyes slowly turning glassy. The next thing I knew was that a tear slowly rolled down.
I instantly turned away, feeling the same thing start to occur with me.
"How...?" I heard him coarse out which made me lose it completely.
I sighed, wiping away the tears from my face.
"I... I still feel the exact same," he added. "Nothing really changed... And I still keep on wishing for some things to happen which I know would never do."
"I'm sorry..." I uttered.
"What?" I looked up when the tone of his voice changed. Chanyeol then held me by my shoulders which surprised me more. "There is nothing to apologize for, Jihyun..."
"I don't want to hurt you," I told him.
The grip he had on my shoulders loosened slightly, and the frown on his face eased as well. "I have been hurt from the very start. It's my own fault for losing control of myself and making things worse."
He then lets go, and I felt myself breathe again. He turned to face the ocean again, continuing, "I am happy you've finally found yourself."
I turned away, not knowing what to actually say back since he was right. Somehow I couldn't fine the right words to comfort him. So I just listened.
"I don't want you to feel sorry for me, Jihyun... It makes me feel weak you know." the tone of his voice changed again, his sentence ending with his usual bragging scoff.
"Chanyeol..." I faced him again. And when I did, I felt my heart drop seeing that smirk on his face though his eyes were completely speaking otherwise with those tears.
"Oh, come on, Jihyun... Stop it with that look of pity," he added, putting both hands on his hips after wiping off his tears. "I am entitled as 'Mr. Popular' for goodness sake... You're not the only girl in the world."
"You jerk..." I whispered out, wiping away more tears that fell. "I don't know if I should be relieved or offended."
"Maybe both..." he laughs, sitting down onto the sand.
I looked down on him. "Stand up, idiot. You're going to make a mess of yourself."
"I'd still look handsome, right?"
"That phrase is old, Park. Move on."
"How do I move on?" he suddenly asks, changing the lightened mood again.
"I was just kidding!" he laughed when we both suddenly fell in silence. But the marks of his tears were still visible and I couldn't help but just cry again. "Aw, come on, Jihyun... Please stop crying."
He stood up, quickly wiping off the sand and making his way toward me. "Hey. I don't want to see you crying like this."
I inhaled sharply, trying to face him with a blank face but only ending up crying again.
Chanyeol...
I really am sorry...
I am sorry...
Why did things have to be like this?
Why does it have to be me, Chanyeol?
The next thing I knew, his arms were wrapped around me. "Hush... You don't have to worry about me now. I just want you to be happy so please don't worry about me anymore... After this I don't want you to think about my condition anymore, alright? This isn't anything I cannot do."
"Can you please at least not brag at this moment," I kidded, mumbling against his chest and felt his laughter which somehow lifted a few weights from my shoulders.
"...I actually have to thank you... Because of this, I am more ready to let go now..."
Chanyeol pulled away from the hug and looked me in the eyes. "Let's be happy and let nothing else hold us back from doing so, alright?"
I nodded, wiping away the remains of my tears. "Alright."
He grinned, ruffling my hair which I quickly stopped him since I made myself presentable at least before this.
I sighed, turning back to the ocean.
Chanyeol...
I am sure now that we really aren't meant for each other...
I guess we really aren't meant to be together...
