Chapter 8

it has been two weeks since the accident. my wrist bandage has been removed since it was not broken anymore. it was on for a decent two weeks, the doctor said before removing it. so now i can use my wrist, and i wouldn't have to worry while i am working out or exercising my powers.

Dylan and i have been meeting up almost everyday, not everyday, almost, to practice, exercise and work out. he taught me a lot of things about these powers we have. we can make things simply freeze in their places, and we can move them around without touching them. he also taught me how to use different powers at the same time.

i am not a professional at it yet, but i have mastered it a bit. i can say that i can control it.

right now, we were at the abandoned house, again. Dylan was teaching me some moves to help me fight. he told me he used to take boxing lessons but stopped a little while back, so he taught me all the moves he knew. he was pretty good at it.

"How do you do this?" i asked out of breath as we stopped for a few seconds for a breath. i put my hands on my knees and looked at him.

"Do what? fight?" he asked me and i nodded and stood up straight, "it's not by what i learned really, it's about mastering your anger, and using it with a few kicks and punches, plus all the action movies i've seen are really helpful," he explained. i just stood there and stared at him.

"You're very wise for a person your age," i said sarcastically and smiled

"nah, my mum just likes to watch those movies with titles you don't understand, and have morals and lessons," he smiled.

"yeah, makes sense now," i laughed and he laughed too.

"so how's your family been lately?" he asked as he looked at me. i went over and sat at the staircase and he cam and sat next to me.

"well," i paused to take a breath, "my brothers keep asking me where i am going, what i am doing and if i need anything, and they keep treating me like a baby," i paused, "my mum keeps giving me food everytime she sees me, and if she doesn't give me any food she asks if i want any, plus she keeps asking how i am doing, and how i am feeling," i paused again, "and my dad, my dad is like following me, watching my every move. yesterday at dinner he was burning holes in my head and i was so uncomfortable to finish dinner, i just kept staring back at him," i finished.

"so does that mean he followed you here?" he asked a little worried.

"no i don't think so, he's supposed to be at work, so i doubt it," i smiled and got up.

"so you only doubt it because he's supposed to be at work," he smirked at me and stood up, "what makes you think he would follow you any way?" he frowned.

"i don't, i mean, he is like watching me at home, so i don't know," i sighed.

"hey it's okay, he's probably just worried about you that's all," he said pulling me in to a hug. then we pulled apart and we stared at each other's eyes for a moment. we were so close, then my phone rang saying i have a text.i looked and saw that caleb said i should get home for lunch. then i looked at the time, 2:27

"ugh," i groaned, "i need to get home for 'family lunch'" i said putting air quotes around family lunch.

"cool, i'll drive you," he said as we started walking to his jeep, "we didn't talk about that yet but how are we gonna see D. stevens baxter?" he asked when we got into the car.

"i honestly don't know," i said pursing my lips together, "but we'll figure something out, hopefully," i said taking his hand in mine and smiled at him then he smiled back to me.

''yeah, let's just concentrate on this for now," he said squeezing my hand then he let go and started driving toward my house.

"thanks for the ride, Dylan," i said as i opened the car door.

"any time, ark," he said smiling at me. then i don't know what came over me but i then i leaned over to him and kissed him on the cheek, then i pulled away and got out of the car smiling at him as his jaw dropped a little and his cheeks went a simple shade of red

he recovered, looked at me and smiled shooting me a wink, then i couldn't help but blush a little then i said, "see you later,"

"yeah definitely, " he smiled then i made my way to my front door and got inside the house and watched him rive away then i closed the door and turned around to find my dad staring at me.

"oh my.." i panicked putting my hand on my heart, "dad you scared the dinosaurs  out of me," i said, "and what is it with you people and sneaking in on people going through the door,"

"sorry, sweetie," he apologized, "who was that?" he asked me, "that drove you here," he finished.

"oh uh, Dylan," i said looking around.

"oh you guys hang out a lot?" he asked me.

"sort of, we're just friends that's all dad"

"oh so you guys used to be friends for like 2 years now?"

"dad! what is this investigation for?" i asked annoyingly.

"nothing, i am just clarifying some information for myself," is it me or is my father suddenly talking like a detective or a scientist? "never mind, clark, i am just doing my father job," he smiled nervously at me. i nodded then mum came up from behind him.

"hey you're here, good, now go take shower and get ready for lunch it'll be ready in about an hour," she said and so i did.

after i was dressed i made my way downstairs. my brothers were in caleb's room with luke and jeremy, and my dad was talking on his phone on our front porch with the door ajar, and i really couldn't hear him. my mum was in the kitchen setting down the table with our house maid, so i made my way to the living room.

i sat on the couch, and then i leaned over to bring the remote to change the channel when i found some papers and folders on the table one of the papers had 'Baxter' written on the top in an opened folder with 'Baxter Lab' on the folder. When did my dad work at the Baxter lab? i couldn't help it i looked outside to find my dad still talking on the phone, so i picked up the paper and looked at it.

i scanned the paper, the first thing that caught my attention was a word BLED then i read 'BLED genetics department would proudly like to announce that the TMRET project has succeeded and-'

"clark, what are you doing?" i heard my dad say. i dropped the papers back on the table then i looked him in the eye.

"when did you start working at the Baxter Laboratory?" i asked curious.

"that happened a long time ago clark," he explained.

"i thought you worked at plant growth business, what does plants have to do with the Baxter Laboratory?"

"it has everything to do with it," he said, "i work in the plant genetics department in the Baxter, we find a way for the growth of plants genetically," he explained.

"why didn't you tell me that you worked at the Baxter laboratory?" i asked, "i thought you owned your own company or something,"

"what makes you think i didn't tell you in the past two years?"

"well did you tell me?" i asked firmly.

"you never asked Clark, all you asked about was what i worked in and to you i work in a plant growth department 'PGD' in a big company, you never asked where, clark" he explained

"oh, so that gives you a reason not to tell me in your dictionary " i started looking around, then mum called us all over for lunch, and i was so relieved i ran to the kitchen. the conversation i just had with my father was very awkward.

but what if Dylan and i use this we can use my dad's passes to get in to the Baxter building, but my dad works for the plant growth department. D. Stevens Baxter probably works at the highest genetic department for well, everything. and i can't just take my dad's passes and sneak in.

"so, honey" my dad told my mum, "there's a ball this Sunday that we are invited to," he told her.

"oh very well then," she said back smiling.

"are we all invited," caleb asked.

"no just me and your mother, it's work related, every department manager would be there along with all our partners," he explained. caleb nodded.

"oh so it's uh, Baxter Laboratory related," i said. dad looked at me and nodded.

"yes, it's more like a gala than a ball in dedication to all the success that has been made this past year, we had on every year for the last couple of years, you probably don't remember," he said. i nodded.

"no i remember you had parties to attend, i just um don't remember or didn't know what company it was related to," i said, then i turned my attention to mum, "you too mum, is Pollys magazine part of a big company too that i didn't know about?" i asked then my dad looked at me.

"no sweetie, the magazine is called Pollys and thast's it," she explained. i looked at dad and he was looking back at me shaking his head giving me the do-not-do-this look

after small talks and then dad told us where the ball was going to be held in. it was this sunday 8pm in a big hotel where they reserved the party hall. when dinner was over i went upstairs to my room.

Lou called me so i picked up.

"hey!" she exclaimed.

"hey,"

"wanna hang out," she asked.

"wait, your parents don't want you over for family dinner?"

"nope since no one is going to be there to attend it but me so that's a pass,"

"cool then yeah,"

"okay, i'll pick you up in 15 minutes, we can go to the mall or something,"

"awesome!" i exclaimed

"cool, see ya," she said then i hung up and stared at the ceiling. should i tell Dylan about my dad? yeah i should.

hey dylan

the way i said it was very un enthusiastic. i sound like i am depressed.

every thing alright?

yeah, uh, i am uh, my.. my dad works for the Baxter Laboratory

what?

my dad works for-

yeah i heard it, i meant what?

i just figured that out like an hour ago. he works at the plant growth genetically department.

so your dad knows about genetics?

well yeah obviously, a-and it frustrates me that i didn't know any of that.

hey calm down. he kept it a secret from you? how did you even know.

i was sitting in the living room when i found some papers with Baxter lab written on it and then he came in and told me that he worked for this department and that i never knew it was in the Baxter because i never asked. and he's right!

well, yeah, he is right.

i know.. and they're going to this ball or gala thingy where everyone else that works there is gonna be there.

wait.. that's a perfect opportunity.

for what?

meeting D. stevens Baxter, talking to him.

yeah well too bad i am not invited.

Clark, sneaking in to a party-

gala

okay, gala

no wait i think it's a ball

Clark! sneaking into whatever this is party, gala, or ball is way easier than sneaking in to lab itself.

and how will we do that?

we can take anyone's identity from the guest list and get in, or well yeah. we just need be not caught from your parents or anyone else.

yeah, that can actually work.

good, so it's on sunday?

yeah, 8pm my parents are leaving at 7:30

fine i'll pick you up at 8

aha.. dylan

yeah

this could be our only chance

i know, that's why we shouldn't mess up.

yeah

"CLARK! LOU'S HERE!" scott yelled from downstairs.

hey, dyl i gotta go now lou's here we're hanging out.

okay, don't worry we'll do fine.

i guess so. well now we have an unofficial invitation to a party

 i'll talk to you later

then he was gone. I went downstairs to find Lou talking to my mum, but when I came downstairs they stopped talking, and they looked nervous

"Hey, Lou," I said as I hugged her.

"C'mon," she said, "bye mrs Morgan," she told my mum.

"Bye mum," I said as I kissed her cheek.

"Bye girls, and Clark be home by 9" she said. I nodded then we made our way to Lou's car. the worst thing about the accident, well of course other than the fact that I lost my memories was that i couldn't drive. I mean who lives like that?

We got into her car and then she started driving.

"So? to the mall?" she asked.

"Yup totally," I smiled at her.

And idea hit me. Lou and I were very close friends for the last two years, which means I could've told her about my powers if I had them before the accident. if somehow maybe I talked to Dylan before.

"Hey, Lou, I am gonna ask you a question," I told her.

"Okaaaay," she said furrowing her eyebrows. I paused for a minute to think about the right words to say, "you're not gonna confess you're undying love for me are you?" she asked. I glared at her.

"What? no! You're weird, and in case you didn't notice I said I would ask you a question," I said looking at her smirking she just shook her head,"Have I like ever uhh, like you know told you a weird secret?" I asked.

"Like what?" she asked looking at me then back at the road, "we told each other a lot of weird secrets," she finished.

"No I mean like out of the ordinary weird?" I restated my question.

"Well.." she paused for a second, "not that i remember," she said glancing at me then back at the road. i couldn't help but feel that she was nervous

"why are you acting like this?" i asked pointing out the fact that she is nervous.

"like what?" she asked.

"like, nervous,"

"i am not nervous okay? i am just weird-ed out. i have no idea what you mean by 'out of the ordinary' secret, clark," she answered nervously, i may add. i noticed her shuffling her hand on the steering wheel and glancing sideways.

"okay, fine whatever," i said back, then i looked out the window.

"hey don't do that," she said.

"do what?" i asked

"that, being mad, don't be mad. i just have a lot going on in my mind and you already have enough on your plate," she said. And that was the moment i felt rage and anger building up inside of me.

"okay, listen here, park the freaking car!" i yelled. apparently didn't expect that. but she parked the car quickly, then looked at me with concern and fear, "i am not disabled, crazy or ill!. i am so sick and tired of everyone else treating me differently like i am carrying some sort of disease. i am fine, i am absolutely fine. i admit this is effecting me, and i know that i am probably not the same girl you be friend-ed two years ago! i don't want people to start hiding things from me like i can't handle it"

"i a-" she started but i cut her off.

"this is not a one sided friendship, lou! if there is anything, anything at all that you want to tell me. then tell me! i feel like ever since the accident everyone has been very distant and hiding things from me!" i finished yelling. i took some deep breaths and she just stared at me in astonishment.

"i was going to say i am sorry," she said.

"what? i don't want an apology!"

"i know i am sorry. i mean i am not. wait. i am sorry. you know what you get it. you are right,"

stop ap- what? i am right? you are convinced?" i asked.

"yes, i am sorry i haven't really shared anything with you about me lately, and that is wrong. it is not a one sided friendship, but lately i feel like i am worried about you and i- i just, i-," she stuttered and i noticed a tear falling from her eyes, "i feel like i lost you clark!" she broke out, "i feel like i lost you after the accident, and i-i just want you t-to know you can trust me, like you used to," at this point i was tearing up too.

"lou!" i exclaimed, "of course i trust you, you can never lose me. okay? i will always be your friend and you will always be my best friend. i know i don't remember our friendship, and that i lost those memories we made, but do you want to know what didn't change?" i asked.

"no," she sniffed.

"my feelings," i said and she smiled, "i didn't remember but now i know that i loved you lou you are my freaking best friend!" i exclaimed, "and i know that i love you right now. i never had a sister, but now i have you,"

"i love you too, clark." she said i smiled and we hugged each other. "you are the best friend ever," i heard her murmur, and i think i heard something like 'i am so so sorry," but i wasn't sure. we pulled away then we laughed.

"we are mess, my brothers were right when they said we have emotional distress time," i laughed and she laughed too.

"yeah. let's go to the mall!" she exclaimed, as she started the car and started driving.

"to the mall we shall go!"

we arrived at the mall about 10 minutes after.

"So anything special you wanna buy?" She asked as she looped her arms to my arms as we were walking. I then thought about the ball this Sunday and how I needed a dress to go with it. it id really important to me, and Dylan.

"Yeah, a dress," I said

"A dress?" she asked frowning, "why do you need a dress?" she asked smirking now this time.

"Well I noticed I don't have a dress," I answered, "and you never know when a party or a formal is gonna come in a weird time," I said half lying half saying the truth.

"Well then," she paused and looked at me, "let's go dress shopping!" she pulled me with her to the dress shops to try on different dresses.

i knew we said we would be honest with each other, and i love her to death i really do. she is practically my sister.

but she was hiding something from me. even my family was. i know it. i feel it.
