Okay, I may have been a little overconfident. I will admit that now, but everything turned out just fine later.
After Adoray led us down a hallway, there was a door. It opened up into a wide room chalk full of more patients, crammed in with only a small walkway between each one.
We didn't stay in that room, but continued on to the next room with only about ten people in it. It was full of the types of people I wanted to never see again.
Somehow, he already knew the "Sister" that the little girl was talking about and led us right to her.
It was, in fact, a Sister. Not the type of sister I was thinking about, a young girl that was a sister by name or from an orphanage.
No, this was someone of the Church. All of them were Church members, seeing their habits and white robes. Seeing that almost made me turn around and leave until I realized I was being prejudiced, and this was a whole other country, continent, they were bound to be different people.
So, I went and kneeled next to the one that the little girl tearfully pointed at and tried to survey the damage.
All of the others were only physically hurt on the outside with abrasions, burns, scratches and the like. They were pretty nasty even though they were only surface afflictions, enough to make me gag if I hadn't watched autopsy videos in my past life and gotten over it.
They were sleeping on mattresses with no clue that I was here.
Even so, to avoid waking them I dragged the mattress the lady was on to the corner of the room about ten feet away with my little strength. There, I sat next to her and looked at her pretty human face. Her cowl was lain down on the mattress next to me, so I could see her hair. There was a white bandage around her head, as if she had a concussion or smacked it somehow.
I inquired about what was wrong with her of Adoray and he simply replied, "Until we get the supplies, we don't know. She'll starve to death at this rate since she can't eat or drink."
Ohhhh that's bad.
So, I went at it on my own while leaving Adoray to entertain the little girl, making sure she didn't make much noise. He looked uncomfortable as she looked up at him with her pleading, hopeful eyes, and began glaring at me again.
First, I checked her Status.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abriged Version (since I don't care about the details):
Condition: severe head trauma, broken fingers (yada yada yada...oh! Concussion, swelling, blood in a place it shouldn't be...), mental afflictions need deeper healing. To fix: reset broken bones, decrease swelling in skull...time. However, there is not enough time in this lifespan for recovery to be possible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow. What an unlucky chick. To have a lifelong coma...and she'll likely die from starvation, as Adoray said, so there's really no chance for her to get better.
But, since I know this type of stuff, I can do it. I flashed Adoray a knowing grin and got right to my work.
A little magic here, using telekinesis hear to fix that in place, using direct mana manipulation as a splint for that, cutting that and redoing it there, using that to stop the blood from leaking there anymore...
A little bit later, I was done.
But, the Status only changed a bit. Everything else, fixed with magic.
"She still won't wake up for a while, there's something wrong with her consciousness," I informed Adoray. He frowned and was about to tell me off for getting the little girl's hopes up, but I ignored him and went on with my "treatment."
The "mental afflictions need deeper healing" part was unchanged and worrying me. After prodding around a bit, I realized something.
Hmmm...what to do.
The last time I got wrapped up in mental stuff was Margaret, and she couldn't enter my mind unless she used a crystal as a catalyst and gateway to go through. But that time, she didn't just use her consciousness to check things out inside of me, but her soul as well. I found that stupid, but realized after some time that people here couldn't separate the ideas of "consciousness" and "soul" as I did.
It was just like how Egyptians established that you thought with your heart, not your brain. The cognition process was different for them.
So, I probably didn't need that crystal thing since I could separate it properly.
"Adoray, I'll see you in a bit. Don't let anyone touch me, okay?"
And with that, I lay my hand on the sister's forehead and dipped my consciousness into her.
My body went limp without any awareness in it, and I lay down on the floor in the position I left it.
I could swear I heard something akin to alarm outside, but since I left the important words behind it didn't matter to me. Also, Kaya and Takuya were the best guards around and worked 24/7, so if anyone wanted to take over my body or peek into my mind then they were ready to poke some eyes out or mess some souls up.
My consciousness was now taking the form of the little girl I currently was, Firea. She was wearing a white billowy dress, one provided by nature since they didn't want people dancing around naked inside other people's souls for business like this. I had never really used it before this point. Since it took on your most natural form, I was my actual color and not chocolate chip anymore.
My soul was shaped like Kaya, the one with the hole in it.
I opened my "eyes" when I finally reached my destination, the place I would find the consciousness of the sister.
I was in a chapel, with only a few pews made from wood and stained glass windows that were so poorly made that you couldn't see through them. The altar was chipped and old, a book that was basically the Bible of this world sitting atop it called The Book. There was a statue behind the altar, one that was in the shape of an Orix. The chapel itself was made of stone with a hay roof, making me think I was in Ireland or something.
So this is a Church member's most comfortable place, huh? I knocked on one wall to signal I was coming in through the open door, looking around for anyone. Dust rained down and made me cough even though I didn't need to.
I wasn't one to judge normally, but this place needs a deep cleaning.
"Hello?" I called out. "Is anyone here?"
No answer.
I decided to walk inside, looking down each and every pew to check for anything...different. It was an eerie feeling, searching for someone else's consciousness inside their soul. So quiet that it was a ghost town.
My soul was always noisy since I had two guards, but the sister's guard was nowhere in sight.
When I got to the last pew at the front of the church, a few steps down from the creaking altar, I finally found some people. There was the sister, laying on the ground with a helpless expression on her face. And in front of the other row of pews, there was her guard.
The guard was a mirror image of herself, just flashier. There were highlights in the hair, no cowl, a shorter dress, sandals, shorter sleeves, a prettier face because of makeup, and an adventurer's sword on her back.
Okay, maybe it wasn't a mirror image. Close enough.
I went to the guard first, since she was one of the most important things here. If she didn't wake up, she couldn't ward off any influences that could directly attack the soul, like possessive spirits and the like.
I shook her shoulder while my dress glowed, pulsing. I used mana to give her a kickstart, since some things could affect other things that didn't possess a physical self.
She gasped as her eyes jumped open, rolling over as she struggled to breathe.
"Are you okay?" I asked, honestly concerned. She was looking a little haggard there.
The lady noticed me and jumped back, bringing her sword out front.
"Who goes there?!" Pfft...so cliche...focus, focus!
"Relax, I'm just a healer. This lady wasn't waking up so I came to check out what's wrong."
"Healer? A child such as yourself?" The lady looked incredulous as she stood up, brushing herself off with another hand. I bet she wanted to check on her makeup right now, but since it was a bad time she didn't.
"Yes," I smiled soothingly. "Now, could you tell me what happened? A guardian such as yourself shouldn't normally be knocked out like this."
I moved over to the consciousness of the lady, a mirror image (this time) of the body outside.
She lay on her back, face to the ceiling. There was nothing wrong with her, and after a few checkups she seemed to be perfectly fine.
So why wouldn't she wake up?
"I do not know what occurred. One moment, that one was attempting to give aide to those in need, and the next moment she collapsed. I felt tired myself and also fell into a deep rest," the sword went back into the sheath, archaic speaker coming and sitting next to me.
I nodded. So she didn't know what happened. Could've just said that.
A whiff of something hit my nose, and I felt the overwhelming desire to fall asleep.
"Whoa!" I fell back on my bottom, struggling to stay awake as I blew it away with some wind magic. "Why are you burning incense here?" As a former Japanese that attended a few funerals, I could never forget it.
"We do not use such things in this place," the punk/Church member shook her head, words unlike her appearance.
"Then what is that smell?"
"This one does not know."
I stood up and traced the smell back to the source. I walked a bit away and found what looked like a genie lamp. It was spewing out smells that induced strong sleep slowly, so you didn't notice it until it was too late. I only noticed because it smelled weird to me.
What is this, Aladdin? Well then where's Jasmin? And the freaking genie? I want a genie.
I picked it up and closed the cap, cutting off the source of the smell. Then, I used more wind magic to sweep it out of her soul like it never existed.
Walking back up the pews, I kneeled by the guardian again. She was trying to shake her soul awake.
"Sister, it's time to wake up. Thou hast slept long enough," she repeated over and over again, until she finally bolted up, realizing that she shouldn't be sleeping.
"Finally," I sighed, knowing my job was done.
The lady turned around just as I was about to leave.
"Who are you?" She stared at me cautiously. "Why didn't you kick her out?" She turned to her guardian.
"That one helped you, since you wouldn't wake up. She is a healer," the guardian assured with a slight smile.
"Just as she said, and you'll see who I am when you wake up. Also, you should hurry and wake up soon, there are people worrying about you." I folded my arms behind my head as I yawned, sensing that my mana was leaking very fast and that I should get out soon or I would be trapped until I mustered enough mana to get out. Or, I could ask for a ride out, but that wasn't classy. "I did this under the request of a little catkin girl outside. She was awfully worried, so you should hurry up and get out there, okay?"
"And the storm?! What happened?" She struggled to stand up after sleeping for so long. The guardian helped her.
"The storm's passed, but I don't know too much about it. I just know that there are a lot of injured people who need help right now and they are short on supplies. Well, that's all for now. See you!" I frantically left and took off, heading back for my body.
I reversed my path and settled back in my soul again, earning the stares of Takuya and Kaya since I took off without permission.
"Uh...tehe~?"
"Oh whatever. Get out there, you little..." Takuya sighed.
"What're we to do with you?" Kaya face palmed while shaking her head.
It felt like Mother and Father were here right now.
Okay, time to leave. I left that place behind and opened my eyes on the outside this time.
"All done~" I called out, taking my hand back to my side while getting up and stretching. "Sister, it's time to wake up," I reached over again and tapped on her face.
Her eyes opened and she blinked a lot because of the light, unprepared as the little catkin girl ran forward and started crying by her side. She was startled from the suddenness of it all, but quickly adjusted when Adoray came and talked to her.
I was feeling tired again, so I curled up on the floor like it was nobody's business and fell asleep to recover my mana, even a point faster.
AN: \(^0^)/ I survived running out of my hotel and wandering a mile away in a country over three thousand miles from home...hazzuh once more! Or is it hazzah? IDK.
