We all kneeled in a line.
The men surrounded us all in a circle. There seemed to be hundreds of them. Every single on of them stared us down. Some sent me suggestive looks which made me shudder.
All my mind was focused on was protecting my family. Blood related or not, everyone kneeling was my family. Daryl, Maggie, Abraham, the lot.
I was beside my brother Carl and behind me was my baby boy, Ethan. He was just a few months old. I didn't want to bring him outside Alexandria for his own safely but I brought him because, not to brag but, I could protect him better than anyone else.
I instantly regretted that decision now that we were being held hostage by Negan's group. Sure they were bad people but they wouldn't hurt a baby would they? God I hope not. If they even tried I'd protect my son with all my might.
My entire body was on edge. I wanted to hold Ethan in my arms but anything could happen at any moment so I needed to be prepared. Luckily, he was in a baby carriage so I could just pick it up and run.
I turned my head slightly, to look at my dad, Rick. He wasn't looking at me, just at the floor. He looked broken. You could barely see the leader in him anymore.
He was trembling, sweat running down his face, to his nose where it dropped off. His hair was soaked in sweat too. I'd never seen him so terrified before. Not since mom died. It made me more scared.
"Y/N." Carl whimpered.
My head snapped to him immediately. I'd always try to protect my little brother in any situation. He'd come to me if he was feeling scared or worried. I couldn't imagine what he was feeling right now. He'd already seen so much death and pain for anyone his age.
My hand slipped to his, holding it to comfort him. "I'm here Carl. I'm here." I whispered, trying not to let my voice waver or crack. He needed me right not. I was more concerned for him than myself.
The guy who had a gun pointed to my head kicked my back, sending me crashing to the floor. "Y/N!" My dad and Carl exclaimed.
"Don't talk bitch." The guy snarled, grabbing me by the hair and yanking me up roughly. I winced in pain. "Got that?!" He hissed close to my ear. I could smell his foul breath. I nodded, trembling.
He shoved me back to my original position, kneeling in the dirt. I quickly smiled at my dad, reassuring that I was ok. He nodded back, looking relieved.
"What did I just say?!" The guy yelled again, going behind my dad and smashing the bottom of his gun on my dad's head, knocking him out. His body slumped to the floor with a thump.
"Dad!" Carl called out.
Anger filled me. I shot up, bolting to the guy.
"Y/N NO!" Daryl grunted. I ignored him, punching the guy who knocked my dad out in the face, hard.
A few other members of Negan's group roughly restrained me. They pushed me to the ground so that I was once again, on my knees. The held me by the arms. One of them cocked their gun and pointed it at me. Ethan started crying.
I thrashed about in their grip, desperate to get loose. "Get the hell off of me!" I growled, wanting to get to my son and comfort him. This was so not my death. I didn't survive this long to go down like this. I didn't become a mother just to die and not see my child grow up.
Realising there was no point in struggling, I closed my eyes and waited. Waited for the bang that would end it all. My brothers and baby's sobs were heard but I couldn't face them.
"WAIT!" A voice boomed.
The guys loosened their grip on me, telling me that their leader was present. When I opened my fear filled eyes, the circling clan was kneeling.
The only guy standing was what I guessed to be their leader. He wore a sinister smile but at the same time, it was intriguing. I found him vaguely familiar. Something about his face gave me deja vu.
The way he gripped his baseball bat with barbed wire wrapped around, showed me he was ready to swing. Preferably at someone's skull. Most likely mine because of my idiocy.
I turned around quickly and grabbed Ethan, holding him in my arms, shushing him until he eventually stopped crying and went back to sleep. Thank God.
"Are we pissin' our pants yet?" The guy laughed.
Obviously, he thought he was hilarious. Sick bastard. Most of his men chuckled. Either they found him funny or they were too scared not too.
The man strolled over to our line, so he was farthest away from me. He never took that eerie grin off of his face as he pointed his bat in the groups faces, letting them all get a good look at the dried blood at the end as he swiftly moved it in front of each person.
Until he came to me.
I didn't look up at him. My eyes were focused on the bat in front of me. I clutched my son to my chest protectively. The bat then moved under my chin, forcing my face upward so that I was looking at the man. The barbed wire scratched at my neck but I didn't care.
"You're a little trouble maker ain't ya Darlin'?" He smirked.
I didn't say anything. I just stared up at him with a glare that would even scare Daryl. However, the guy just smirked even more. Where have I seen that smirk before? Why was it familiar?
"Damn, some glare you got there Sweetheart. Makes me tingly." He chuckled, winking.
Again, I didn't reply. Ethan fidgeted slightly, making me look down at him. He was now awake, staring at me happily with his bright green eyes. They were so much like his fathers.
"Who'd we got here? He yours? I'm assuming he is. You've got that whole lioness vibe about ya." Negan chuckled, looking down at him. "Damn he's a cutie ain't he? Kinda reminds me of one of my boys when he was a baby."
"You touch him, you die." I growled, not caring of the consequences.
The man barked a laugh. "I'd like to see you try Sweetheart." He swiftly got up, letting his bat swing around carelessly.
"Anyway, you sorry bunch of idjits! I'm Negan." He introduced happily. "And I do not appreciate your little group killing members of my massive one."
Negan then trailed his fingers along Lucille slowly, smirking at the dried blood. "Someone's gotta pay for that shit."
My heart beat practically stopped. I knew what that meant. Someone- if not more- was gonna die. Tears formed in my eyes at the thought of any of my family dying. Blood related or not, family don't end in blood.
Negan began going along the line, mentally choosing who he was gonna kill. After what seemed like forever, he stopped at Glenn. NO! He couldn't kill Glenn! He just found out that he was gonna be a dad! Maggie would be a single parent!
"You'll do." Negan said before smashing Lucille into his head. Maggie screamed in horror as she watched her husband being brutally beat to death.
The same thing happened to Abraham as well. I was shaking but tried to remain calm for Ethan who was whimpering in my arms from all the commotion.
"Shh, it's okay baby." I whispered gently.
"Hey! Shut up!" A guy behind me ordered.
"Don't talk to her like that!" Carl snarled, angry that his family were dying.
"Carl..." I warned, wanting to keep him safe.
The guy kicked Carl down. "What did you say punk?!"
Carl scowled at him. "I said-"
"What's going in here?" Negan questioned, coming over. Lucille still dropped with blood from Abrahams body.
"The kids being a smart ass." The guy informed.
"Really?" Negan chuckled. "Can't have that now can we? It's disrespectful Kid. No one ever teach you that?"
"He was being disrespectful to my sister!" Carl exclaimed.
"Good man, protecting your sister. But unfortunately, that shits not gonna be tolerated." Negan said.
"Don't hurt him!" I begged. "Please!"
"Sorry Hot Stuff. Kids gotta learn. Someone pass me an axe!"
My eyes widened. Someone passed Negan an axe. "Thank you." He smiled, before kicking Carl to the floor. He then placed the axe over Carl's arm.
He was gonna cut Carla arm off!
"No, please! Stop! I'm begging you!" I screamed, not wanting my brother to get hurt.
"Sorry Princess." Negan said once again, raising the axe.
He was about to swing when a gruff voice yelled out;
"DAD STOP!"
The voice was familiar. It was deep and gruff like...
"Dean..." I whispered out in shock.
He was shocked also but smiled. "Hey Beautiful."
