Leo's POV:
By the time I was your age, I'd give anything
To fall in love truly, was all I could think
That's when I met your mother, the girl of my dreams
The most beautiful woman, that I'd ever seen
I was sitting at the edge of my bed thinking everything out. Being a single parent was really hard.
I never expected to become a single parent. I had a fifteen year old son named Theo. (He's back...)
I don't like to talk about why I'm a single parent and what happened. Whenever someone brings up love, all I want to do is break down and cry.
Theo walked into my bedroom and sat down next to me. I looked at him in the eyes and he looked very serious.
Theo was a jokester like me. He was almost never serious, which is exactly like me.
He looked like me. Except, he had his mother's beautiful (E/C) eyes and gorgeous smile that I will never see again.
"What's wrong Theo?" I asked.
"What happened to mom?"
I immediately started to tear up and tried my best not to cry in front of my son. I like to stay strong for him.
Now was the time I needed to tell him. These past fifteen years, he's been growing up with only me.
I sighed and braced myself to talk. I can't believe I'm actually trying to contain my emotions. (I'm crying right now.)
"Let's go to the living room and sit. This is going to be a long talk."
We got up and walked down the stairs to the living room. I faced Theo and sighed sadly.
I'm going to start from the beginning and tell Theo everything. I'm going to tell him how amazing his mother was.
"When I was your age, I would do anything for love. I waited and waited to find the woman that I loved. I didn't have to wait very long because that's when I met your mother."
I sighed sadly as tears welled up in my eyes. I didn't even try to hold them back. It was impossible to.
"She was everything I imagined in my dreams. She was beautiful and absolutely amazing. She was sweet, extremely caring, kind, funny, sassy, and perfect. She was the most gorgeous person I've ever laid eyes on."
I smiled sadly at the memory of how I met her. She was definitely something with her bright smile and caring eyes.
She said, "Boy can I tell you a wonderful thing?
I can't help but notice, you're staring at me.
I know I shouldn't say this, but I really believe,
I can tell by your eyes that you're in love with me."
"I met your mother in a coffee shop. She was in front of me in line and didn't have enough money to pay for her coffee. I offered to pay for her and when she turned around, my eyes lit up like saucers."
I still remembered this moment as if it was yesterday. It's good that I'm telling Theo the secret I've been hiding from him for years.
"She blushed when she saw my reaction. She thanked me for buying her coffee and sat down at a table with her laptop to study for college classes."
"I paid for my coffee and sat a few tables away from her because I was also at the coffee shop to study."
"My thoughts were crowded with your mom. I couldn't think straight and didn't realize I was staring at her until she got up and sat across from me."
"I blushed and was really embarrassed that she caught me staring. She gently laughed and held out her hand."
"She said to me, "Boy can I tell you a wonderful thing? I can't help but notice your staring at me. I know I shouldn't say this, but I really believe. I can tell by your eyes that you're in love with me.""
"I looked at the floor because I couldn't believe how stupid I was. She introduced herself and I introduced myself back. She gave me her phone number and left the coffee shop."
"After a few dates together, I asked her to be my girlfriend. She said yes and we shared our very first kiss that night. It was one of the best days of our lives."
Now, son, I'm only telling you this
Because life can do terrible things.
I looked at Theo to see him nod and tell me to continue. He was smiling, which made me smile.
"Mom sounds amazing so far." He said.
"I'm finally telling you this story because life can do terrible things. This is one of the many things that life can do."
I managed to say. My breathing became heavy and my knees were extremely weak.
Now, most of the time we'd have too much to drink
And we'd laugh at the stars and we'd share everything
Too young to notice, and too dumb to care
Love was a story that couldn't compare.
"Most of the time we would go out to bars and have fun. We would party all night together and drink way too much. We would get drunk and have to call your mother's roommate to pick us up."
I lightly chuckled at the memory. Those were some of the good times we had together.
"We were only twenty two, so we were still new to drinking. We didn't know the right amount to stop at because we were young and dumb. We didn't care too much."
"Love is something completely different though. Love is more beautiful and perfect than anything. Sometimes love can destroy you though. Nothing in life can compare to love."
I said, "Girl, can I tell you a wonderful thing?
I made you a present with paper and string.
Open with care now, I'm asking you, please.
You know that I love you, will you marry me?"
"One day, your mom and I got talking about our future together. She told me when she wanted to get proposed to and when she wanted the wedding."
"She said she wanted to get proposed to on Christmas. She told me she likes the original proposal days, even though she was a unique person."
"So what did I do? I did what your mom wanted. I saved all my money and bought her a beautiful diamond ring. I proposed to her on Christmas just like she wanted."
"I took the proposal box and wrapped it with white computer paper. Your mom didn't care about wrapping and stuff. That's one of the things I love about her."
"I grabbed (F/C) string and tied it around the box. At the top, I created a bow and smiled at my horrible abilities of wrapping."
"We were cuddled on the couch in front of the fire place when I pulled out the small gift. She looked at it and looked back at me confused."
"I said, "Girl, can I tell you a wonderful thing? I made you a present with paper and string. Open with care now, I'm asking you, please. You know that I love you," I handed her the box and she unwrapped it. I completed my sentence. "Will you marry me?""
"Your mother started to cry as she nodded yes and jumped into my arms hugging me. I smiled as she pestered my face with kisses and stayed in my arms."
I looked at Theo to see him smiling.
"You seem like you really love mom, dad. You guys seem really cute together." Theo said.
"A few months later, we got married. I cried as your mom walked down the aisle in a gorgeous, elegant white gown. Her hair was up in a bun and her makeup was flawlessly done."
"She was more beautiful than ever. She looked more beautiful in a messy bun, sweatpants, my sweatshirt, no makeup, and her fluffy bunny socks though."
"Two months after we were married, I found out she was pregnant with you. She cried because she thought I was going to be mad, but I hugged her and kissed her stomach while she giggled. She was the most adorable thing ever."
"Your mother had lots of weird cravings. She made me get wings and cookies & cream ice cream. She put the wings on top of the ice cream and ate the food. Your mother was weird, but that's what I love about her."
"Nine months later, she woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain. It woke me up and we rushed her to the hospital right when her water broke."
"She was in labor with you for fourteen hours. She dealt with the pain because she wanted to see her beautiful baby boy."
"When she gave birth, we cried together at how handsome you were. You have your mother's eyes and smile. We picked the name Theo for you."
Now, son, I'm only telling you this
Because life can do terrible things
You'll learn, one day, I'll hope and I'll pray,

"Remember I'm telling you this Theo because life can do terrible things. You'll see in a few years what I mean. I'll hope and pray that God shows you differently what love can do."
I waited for a few seconds before continuing. I immediately broke down in sobs because this was the part where everything went haywire and terrible.
She said, "Boy can I tell you a terrible thing?
It seems that I'm sick and I've only got weeks.
Please, don't be sad now, I really believe,
You were the greatest thing that ever happened to me."
"One morning, your mother woke up with terrible pains in her head. She was having a migraine and woke me up."
"She told me about her pain in her head and I took her to the hospital. We dropped you off at your grandma's house first."
"When your mother explained to the doctors about her migraine and pain, they had a worried look on their face. They asked me to wait in the waiting room while they ran some tests."
"I did so and waited for hours. The doctor updated me every now and then about what tests they took. They took an MRI and a CT scan."
"The doctor came once again with a sad expression. He sighed before looking at me with sympathy. He told me, "You may see Mrs.Valdez now. I'm really sorry.""
"I didn't know why he was apologizing, but I was about to find out. I walked into your mother's room to see her crying on the hospital bed. She looked up at me and ran into my arms, sobbing into my chest."
By now, I was full out sobbing. Theo moved and hugged me while I cried into his shoulder.
"I started crying because your mother was crying. I didn't even know what was about happen yet."
"She pulled away from sobbing in my chest and looked at me sadly in the eyes. I stared back into her broken ones."
"She sniffled and said, "Boy can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems that I'm sick and I've only got weeks. Please, don't be sad now, I really believe. You were the greatest thing that ever happened to me.""
Slow, so slow I fell to the ground on my knees.
"I-I feel t-to my knees so-sobbing while sh-she kneeled next t-to me and h-hugged me. That was wh-when my l-life ch-changed for-forever. Sh-she told m-me about h-how doc-doctors f-found that sh-she had br-brain c-cancer."
"For the next few weeks, we did everything we could together. We took time off of work and I adopted the dog she always wanted."
"A few days passed and she started losing her hair. She went through chemotherapy, but it didn't work."
"One night, she woke up screaming and I knew something was wrong. I helped her change and picked her up bridal style while running to the car. I called my friend Frank over to watch you."
"I didn't put your mother in the passenger seat. I kept her on my lap while driving. She was sobbing into my chest and hugging me. Occasionally she would give me a kiss and whisper 'I'm sorry', even though none of this was her fault."
"We arrived at the hospital and doctors immediately put her into a room. I was crying my eyes out. I stayed in the room while doctors worked on her. They told me to take a nap, so I did."
"I should have never taken that nap because I woke up.....to the sound of a flat line on the monitor."
I busted out into more tears and saw that Theo was crying too and I pulled him into my chest.
"The doctors and nurses came in to pronounce her dead. I knew then that life was not worth living for."
"I was then diagnosed with depression and began cutting myself. I was in the middle of cutting when I heard you cry. You were only three months old."
"That's when common sense knocked into me. I realized that if I killed myself, you would have to be put into an orphanage. I know what that's like and you saved my life."
"I realized that you needed a father and that you needed someone to take care of you and love you just as much as your mother loved me and you."
So don't fall in love, there's just too much to lose
If you're given the choice, then I beg you to choose
To walk away, walk away, don't let her get you.
I can't bear to see the same happen to you.
"This is the terrible things love can do. So don't fall in love, I'm begging you. When you find a person you love with all your heart and the choice comes to choose if you really love them, walk away and don't let the person intimidate you. I can't bear to see the same thing happen to you that happened to me with your perfect mother."
Now, son, I'm only telling you this

"Remember son, I'm telling you this because life can do terrible things. Let this be your lesson and just know that your bother is still here right in there."
At the word there, I pointed to his heart. He was full out crying, but I knew that it was the right time to tell him the truth.

Why did I have to write this?
I am crying and slowly dying at how sad this is.
This is my first sad one shot, so how do you think I did?
This was 2471 words. This is one of my favorites that I've written.
The feels....I'm destroyed.
