-

I limped over to the door, opening it to find Rick standing in front of me.

"What's wrong?" I asked Rick who walked in with glossy eyes.

"I need someone to talk to." He replied.

"Okay," I mumbled, closing the door after he walked into the house.

"Why'd you knock? You live here." I replied.

"I don't know." He replied.

He seemed really tore up as he paced around the living room.

"I haven't had sleep in a good two weeks, Carl is struggling so hard with everything, he doesn't understand, and I can't get through to him. He just starts yelling and crying, and he doesn't remember anything about anyone. He doesn't know anything about this world." He replied, a few tears escaping his eyes.

"We can help him remember, it'll be okay. We just have to take things slow with him. We can't overwhelm him," I replied.

"What if his memory doesn't come back? What if never remembers? Do you know how hard that's going to be?" He asked.

"We'll help him." I replied.

Rick put his head in his hands after sitting down on the couch.

"Just go upstairs and get some rest, I'll take care of everything." I replied.

"What if something happens while I'm asleep? What if I'm not there--"

"Don't think like that. Just go get some rest." I ordered.

I stood in front of him, his arms wrapping around my hips as he rested his head on my stomach.

"Please just sleep. You need rest or you're going to go crazy." I replied.

"I can't." He replied.

"Yes you can, just try." I replied.

I hated seeing him so distraught, it broke my heart.

"Will you stay with me?" He asked.

"I was going to go watch Carl while you slept." I replied.

"Stay with me until I fall asleep." He replied.

"Why?" I inquired.

"Please." He begged.

"Okay." I sighed.

I didn't want to get attached again, because every time I do- something happens and I regret it.

I followed him upstairs before he lied down on the bed.

I lied down beside him, feeling his arm go around my waist and he pulled me into him.

I turned around so I was facing him, his arm still over my waist.

I looked into his eyes before he closed them.

After not even a minute he was asleep.

After a few more minutes, I gently picked up his arm and got up before pulling the sheets over him.

Before I went to go watch Carl, I opened the closet and began pulling all of the photo albums and pictures I had out.

I bit my lip, accidentally dropping one on the floor.

I slowly turned around, finding Rick still asleep.

I sighed before walking downstairs with the albums in my arms.

"Hey, I actually didn't burn the pizza this time!" Tara declared as I walked into the kitchen.

After a few minutes of sorting through the photos to help with Carl, Tara and I heard something break from upstairs.

I walked upstairs, finding a lamp in the floor, and Rick thrashing around on the bed.

I stepped over the glass before reaching over and grabbing his shoulders.

"Rick, wake up." I ordered.

After no success, I climbed up on the bed before climbing on top of him.

"Well, shit. I didn't know this was going to turn into sex." Tara stated before leaving the room.

I rolled my eyes before continuing to try and wake Rick up from his nightmare.

"Rick!" I yelled, patting his cheeks with my hands.

My breath hitched in my throat as he rolled over and put his hands around my neck.

Once he realized what happened be quickly got off of me before apologizing over and over.

"Oh my god, I'm sorry." He repeated.

"It's okay." I replied, raising up.

"I could've killed you." He replied.

"I'm fine, you were having a nightmare." I replied.

"I'm going to check on Carl." He mumbled before walking toward the door.

"But you didn't even sleep," I replied.

"I can't!" He snapped.

I bent over and began picking up the glass pieces before throwing it away.

After sweeping up small shards of glass, I went back downstairs to go through my pictures again.

"What was that about?" Tara asked, eating her homemade pizza.

"He's upset." I replied.

"Obviously." She mumbled.

After Tara left the kitchen and went back upstairs, I set all of the photo albums out on the kitchen island and began going through them.

Tears immediately hit my eyes as I flipped open to a picture of Maggie and Glenn.

I quickly flipped it again, trying not to cry when a picture of Hershel holding Judith met my eyes.

Maybe this wasn't a good idea.

I glanced outside, finding that it was now dark.

I turned on the light above the kitchen island before pulling out a pen and writing who was in the picture, and where the picture was taken on the back of each photo.

I wiped fallen tears off of my cheeks before continuing on to the second page.

Alexandria was so quiet and just so weird with Maggie and Glenn.

I missed them so much it hurt me physically to even think about them.

I threw my pen down before covering my eyes with my hands.

I flipped to another page, finding a photo of Shane and I, before the apocalypse.

My emotions were too high to do this tonight.

I bit my lip, trying not to sob as my eyes scanned over more photos.

"What are you doing?" Tara asked.

"Crying." I mumbled, more tears falling down my cheeks.

"Why?" She inquired.

"These." I answered, motioning to all of the photos.

"I'm just gonna assume your on your period and leave." She replied, putting her plate in the sink.

"I'm not, but it just hurts." I cried.

"I know. That's why I'm not going to look at them." She replied, walking into the living room.

I began crying even harder as I came across a photo of me and Maggie.

I sat down on the bar stool before covering my face with my hands.

"Are you crazy? If the photos make you cry, then why are you looking at them?" Tara asked.

"I miss them. I'd give anything to talk to them all one last time," I cried.

"You will, one day." She replied.

"You believe in Heaven?" I asked,  surprised that she did.

"All of these good people have to have somewhere to go. They can't just die and that's it. I know they're in Heaven, and I hope we will be too, one day." She replied,  leaving the room again.

I wiped more tears off my cheeks before closing all of the albums.

"I'll be upstairs if you need me." Tara hollered from the stairs.

I pulled on my jacket and walked outside, the cold air causing me to shiver as I walked down the street to the infirmary.

I walked into the infirmary, finding Denise treating a patient.

I looked across the infirmary, finding Carl in his room with Rick sitting beside his bed.

"Hey, Sam. What's going on?" Denise asked as I walked over to her.

"Hey. Um, I just came to get fresh air." I replied.

"Have you been crying?" She asked.

"Yeah. I was looking through old photos." I replied.

"Rick's in there if you need him." She stated.

"No, I came to see you, actually." I replied.

"Really?" She asked, genuinely surprised.

"Yeah. Do you think I can help out around here? Like, do you need a nurse? I mean, I just get bored and I get stuck with my thoughts and they're trying to destroy me- you know?" I replied.

"Um, yeah. I think I can work something out." She replied.

"Cool." I mumbled.

"Do you know anything about the medical field?" She asked.

"No, but I know how to do stitches, dress wounds, and just stuff like that." I replied.

"That's good enough." She replied, nodding.

"Sam?" Carl asked.

I snapped my head to the direction I heard Carl, before walking over to his room.

I didn't even think he remembered me. The way Rick was talking it was like he didn't remember a thing.

"You're Sam, my moms best friend- Shane's girlfriend." Carl stated as I walked into the room.

"Carl, your mo-"

"That's right, I'm Sam." I replied, forcing myself to smile as I cut Rick off.

We can't just jump and tell Carl every little thing, we have to take baby steps.

"See, dad? I can remember people." Carl told Rick.

Tears pooled around my eyes again as I realized how hard of a time Rick was having.

I didn't even want to entertain the thought of how many times he tried to explain everything to Carl.

"When do you think he can come home?" I asked Denise who walked in.

"Give it another good week. I want to make sure his brain is functioning properly." Denise answered.

"Can't you fucking see it's not?! He can't remember!" Rick yelled, and I could tell that he's on the verge of a mental break down.

"He's alive, Rick. We have to take small steps. He can't just remember everything in one day. Be patient." I snapped.

"You don't understand." He replied, pointing a finger at me.

"Rick, let's take this out here. We don't need to stress him out." Denise replied.

"You don't understand what it's like to look at your son and tell him that his mom is dead! To tell him that the world is gone to hell, and there's nothing for him here. You wake up every day just to kill walkers and do it again the next! To tell him that the world he remembers isn't even here anymore!" Rick yelled, his voice cracking.

Tears fell from my eyes as I looked at Carl who looked at his dad in disbelief, and only God knows how much I wanted to tell him that the world he remembers is still here- but it's not.

Rick stormed out of the room, leaving Denise to pickup the conversation.

"So, Carl, do you remember who I am?"  Denise asked, changing the subject.

"Denise, and you're my doctor." Carl declared.

"Well, I'm not a docto--"

"You're a doctor." I replied, cutting her off.

"You saved Rick, you saved me, and you've saved countless of others. You are a doctor." I added.

"That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me." She replied, smiling.

I ignored her and left the infirmary, finding Rick walking down the street.

I quickly caught up to him, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Rick, wait." I mumbled, running to get in front of him.

I turned around and put my hand on his chest to stop him.

He pushed me out of the way before gripping the ax in his hand walking out of Alexandria.

"Rick!" I yelled, following him out onto the road where walkers were roaming.

"Move!" He yelled, pushing me out of the way again.

I put too much pressure on my bad leg, which caused me to fall right on top of a dead walker.

I cringed, also falling on my bad leg.

I looked up, watching Rick going at walkers with his ax.

I huffed before standing up and walking back inside Alexandria.

"Why are you still crying?" Tara asked as I walked inside.

"I don't know." I mumbled, walking upstairs.

I did know, I just don't want to talk about it.

I pulled my clothes off before getting in the hot shower to help relax and get the stupid walker blood off of me.

I looked down at my thigh, finding my entire leg a bright red color, and my thigh was swollen.

-

"Where's Rick?" Tara asked as I walked back downstairs clean and more relaxed.

"He was out there, and he wouldn't let me talk." I replied, sitting across from her on the couch.

"He's probably just worked up." She replied.

"He's going to have a mental breakdown if he doesn't get ahold of himself." I replied.

"What happened to your arm?" She asked.

"What?" I asked.

"Your arm, it's bleeding," She replied, pointing to my arm.

I looked down at my arm, finding blood dripping from the forearm.

"Oh, I fell." I replied.

"On what?" She inquired.

"A walker," I answered.

"Sam," She mumbled.

"What?" I interrogated, grabbing a towel and holding it to my arm.

"It looks like bite marks." She whispered.

Chills ran all over my body after I realized what might have happened.

"Let's get to Denise, now." She demanded, pulling a jacket on.

We left the house before walking down the street to the infirmary.

"Are you sure it's a bite?" I asked.

"Denise!" Tara yelled as we walked in.

"Shh!" Denise hissed.

After I explained everything to Denise, she quickly began getting supplies before she made me sit down on the table.

"Are you sure it's a bite?" She asked.

"I don't know, I fell on a dead walker." I replied.

"We'll clean it the best we can and go from there." She replied.

"What if it is a bite and she dies because we thought it wasn't?" Tara asked.

"Tara!" I whined.

"What's going on?" Daryl asked.

"I need you to find Rick. He wouldn't listen to me." I replied.

"Where was he?" He asked.

"Outside of the walls. He's about to lose his shit, about to have a mental breakdown. Don't tell him I'm here," I ordered.

"What happened to ya?" He inquired.

"We think she's bit," Tara replied.

"I'll go find him." He replied, leaving the infirmary.

"It doesn't look like a bite to me, maybe you fell on some rocks." Denise replied.

"Or she fell on it's mouth." Tara mumbled.

"I like Denise's theory better." I replied.

"You're so nice to me today." Denise replied, smiling.
