-
I sat down at the dining room table, wrapping my hand around the warm cup of coffee.
"You need to sleep." Michonne mumbled.
"I can't." I replied.
"It's four in the morning. You need to sleep." Michonne replied.
"I can't sleep knowing they're out there alone, possibly hurt, scared, crying, and in pain." I replied.
"Rick still isn't back yet." She mumbled.
"He wouldn't let me go help find them." I replied.
"He wants you to sleep so when he comes back you all can go back out," She replied.
"What if they're not even alive?" I asked.
"Don't think like that." She replied.
-
"Any news?" Tara asked.
"John told Rick that Carl and Judith got away from him. There's a possibility that they'll make their way back here." I replied.
"That's good." Tara replied.
"Yeah, unless he's lying," I mumbled.
"Think positive. They're gonna be okay." She replied.
I nodded before walking upstairs to change.
"You ready?" Rick asked once I walked into his room.
"Yeah, let me change my shirt, though." I replied.
As I was digging through my clothes, he placed his hands on my hips before lifting my shirt up and off of my body.
I let out a shaky breath, his cold fingers trailing down my sides from behind me.
"I want you to know something." Rick stated.
I turned around, his hands back on my hips.
"I'm sorry for everything I put you through. You didn't deserve that shit." He replied.
"It's in the past." I mumbled.
I closed my eyes, his lips connecting with mine as my back hit the wall.
We broke apart soon after, hearing two knocks on the bedroom door.
I quickly pulled on a clean shirt before lacing up my boots.
Blood rose to my cheeks, Rick opening the door to Tara.
"Daryl, Maggie, Glenn, and Michonne are waiting outside." Tara stated.
"Tell them we'll be right there." Rick replied.
I pulled my hair into a high ponytail before walking toward the door.
"I need you right now, more than ever," Rick mumbled, wrapping his hand around my wrist.
"I'm here." I replied.
"What if we can't find them?" He asked, completely vulnerable with me.
"We will." I replied, squeezing his hand.
-
"Anything?" Tara asked once I walked into the house after searching for Carl and Judith for 14 hours.
"No." I mumbled, my hopes completely crushed.
"I'm sorry." She replied.
"I'm not giving up." I replied.
"How's Rick taking it?" She asked.
"Not good. It took everything in me to get him to come back here long enough to get something to eat." I answered.
"He's going back out?" She inquired.
"So am I." I replied.
"Sam, you're exhausted." She replied.
"I'll sleep in the car if I have to." I mumbled, turning the kitchen light on.
-
"Please be careful." Maggie pleaded.
"We will." Rick mumbled, getting in the truck.
"Sam, don't run yourself down." Maggie ordered.
"I won't." I replied, getting in the passenger side.
Once I got in the car, Rick drove off back in the direction we came from.
"You can sleep if you want to." He mumbled.
"I'm fine." I replied.
-
"A balloon. Could it be Carl?" I asked.
"Who else would have balloons?" Rick asked.
I half smiled, my hopes rising again.
"Carl!" I yelled, stepping over a tree stump.
I looked to my right, finding a walker feasting on someone about ten yards away.
"Rick," I mumbled, not wanting to go over to the victim.
We walked over to the walker who was now coming our way before Rick stabbed it in the head.
A lump formed in my throat as I looked down at the dead person on the ground.
You couldn't even tell who it was because of all of the blood and missing organs and parts.
I tried to ignore the fact that the boots looked like Carl's, but I don't think Rick did.
I gently turned the dead human over while Rick turned around and covered his eyes with his hand.
"It's not him." I declared, relief rushing through me as I looked at the bald head.
Rick turned around, his eyes bloodshot and my heart broke.
I pushed my knife into it's skull so it wouldn't reanimate.
"Come on. There's a cabin over there- they could be there." I told Rick, trying not to look at him so I wouldn't cry.
Once we reached the cabin, I swung the door open, and a walker flung itself at us.
I quickly sent my knife through its skull before walking inside.
"Clear." I mumbled, after walking around the three rooms and finding no one.
"Let's go." Rick replied.
I followed him outside before we got in the truck again.
-
"He's giving up." I told Tara as I brought my fork up to my mouth.
"It's been almost a week." Tara mumbled.
"I don't care if it gets to two years, I'm going to look for them every day." I replied.
"Aren't you going to run out of places to look?" She asked.
"We already have, but I'll go into different states if I have to." I answered.
"Are you going back out tonight?" She inquired.
"He doesn't want to, but I am." I replied.
"You should stay and rest up." She replied.
"I haven't got more than two hours of sleep this entire week." I mumbled.
"Stay and sleep. Me, Glenn, and Maggie will go tonight." She replied.
I nodded before standing up.
"Thank you." I replied.
I walked upstairs to Rick's room, finding him laying down on the bed, staring straight up at the ceiling.
"Maggie, Glenn, and Tara are going tonight." I stated.
I turned around and gathered my things before walking into the bathroom to get my shower.
Once I was out, I dried off and pulled on some undergarments, yoga pants, and a hoodie before combing my wet hair and blow drying thirty percent of it.
I brushed my teeth and rubbed some lotion on my hands before running my fingers through my hair and walking back into the bedroom.
My eyes landed on Rick who was still staring at the ceiling, and I thought I should get his mind off of everything.
"Play a game with me." I ordered, flopping down on the bed beside him.
"Why?" He asked.
"We need to get our minds off of everything." I replied.
"What do you want to play?" He mumbled.
"Uno." I replied.
"You get mad when you lose." He replied.
"I won't this time." I replied.
He raised an eyebrow before raising up so his back was against the headboard.
I stood up and got the card game out of the nightstand drawer before sitting across from Rick on the bed.
-
I threw my cards at Rick, mad that he won.
He always wins.
"Hey, you said you wouldn't get mad." He replied.
"You always win!" I exclaimed.
He smirked before gathering the cards and sliding them back in the box.
"Okay, I'm not mad, I'm not mad." I replied.
