IU is both a singer, song-writer and actress in South Korea. Her stage name IU, is derived from "I and You", which means to become one, you and me, with music. Her fan club name means "You, love, me", where "U" is You and "ae" means love in Sino-Korean and "na" is Korean for me. IU became a singer when she was 14 after she sang at her school's sports competition. She had a financially difficult childhood, up until her debut.
In 2014, she became Billboard's Official K-Pop All-Time Chart Leader with 5 No.1s since K-Pop Hot 100 was introduced. She is also the holder for most weeks at No.1 in the chart (14).
