"Someone has to help me run things" Bellamy told Murphy and some other kid. I was back at camp and I told Wells that I was going to see what I could do to fix communication.
I had just witnessed Murphy threaten Wells with death and Bellamy offering Murphy to be his second.
"What about the ones that don't take them off?" I called down to him. He jumped startled at the sudden sound of my voice. He looked up at me as I stared down at him. I layed on my belly with my head propped up on the palm of my hand.
"I thought you went with the others to get the supplies?" He asked as I rolled my eyes as I got up
"You can't answer a question with a question" I responded simply as I walked away from the edge and sat back down where the mess of wires was.
I heard climbing from the side of the drop ship as I breathed calmly. I saw as he got climbed over and stood next to me.
"What are you doing?" He asked as I kept looking at the wires
"Are you an engineer? Or perhaps a mechanic?" I asked simply as I cut a wire
"No.." He answered
"Well then, unless you came up here to help then I really don't see the need of you to be up here" I said pointedly as I heard him scoff
"Who do you think you are?" He asked
"The queen" I answered simply as spliced a couple of wires.
"And let me tell you something Blake" I voiced as he had turned around to leave I heard him stop and wait for me to continue talking. And that's when I stood up and dusted off my hands before I crossed them over my chest
"If you really want to become a rebel leader for these kids. Take charge." I said as he smiled
"Now why woul I want to listen to you? You're just a engineer" he said to me as I smiled
"Its fine don't take my advice. But I recommend you should take it. One hundred kids. They've been looked up in the sky box for a while now. And now they are on earth with no rules, no guards and no set leader.
If it wasn't for my father getting me out of trouble I would of been locked up too. I know how they think Blake. You should start pulling in the reigns before it gets too out of control." I said as he took into consideration of what I spoke.
"Why don't you do it? You seem to know so much about leading. Why don't you?" He asked
"If you don't..I will" I said with a hard face as he nodded
"Well I'll let you get back to your work." He said as I nodded slowly as he climbed down. I looked over him from the edge with a stone cold face. I know your secret Bellamy Blake. And I sure as hell won't die because of you.
*Marcus P.o.V.*
As I walked down the hall thinking of my daughter on earth. I wondered how she was at the moment. As much as I wanted to be there to protect her and make sure no harm came to her. I knew that she knew how to protect herself very well. I gave her all the possible training I could give her. And now I had to believe in her that she will survive on earth. As I thought this I saw Commander Shumway approach
" Excuse me, sir. You asked to be notified if there was news. The Chancellor is still in surgery, but we have I.D.ed the shooter. Bellamy Blake is the only person on The Ark unaccounted for. " Shumway informed as I looked at the tablet
"Who is he?" I asked
"He's no one, a janitor. We're still working up a profile, but his motive for going to Earth is clear." He said as my face hardened as Shumway swiped the screen and a girl appeared next to Blake
"Sister. I remember. Her mother kept her hidden for almost sixteen years, nearly a record. What is it, Commander Shumway. Spit it out. " I asked Shumway as I kept looking at the photos
"We could start now. As Chancellor pro tempore, you can give the order to start reducing the population." Shumway leaned in
"Not yet." I said not really in the mood to reduce population when knowing my daughter was on earth.
"Sir, we're wasting time. Removing the one hundred from the population only buys us another month. Engineering needs more than that to fix those systems, if they can fix them at all. " Shumway insisted as I took a deep breath
" You have my answer, Commander. Enough. If we're gonna kill hundreds of innocent people, we're gonna do it by the book. Is that clear?
In the meantime, I want to know who helped this janitor get on that drop ship because he sure as hell didn't do it by himself. Seems we have a traitor in our midst, Commander, and the hundred have an assassin in theirs." I said thinking of my daughter I walked away from him and back towards the Command center
" How's my daughter Jackson?" Was the first thing I asked when I got there.
"She's fine. Blood sugar is a little low, she must have not ate yet." He said as I nodded
"You're sure she fine?" I asked again as he nodded
"She's doing perfect." He said with a smile as I looked up at the board.
"Those two black tiles..?" I asked
"Yeah we just lost them." He responded
"Radiation?" I asked
"Not sure yet sir." He said as Abby walked in
" Who else did we lose?" She asked
"Murphy and Mbege, both named John." Jackson responded
" Neither was injured during landing. " I added
"I concur. Something else killed these two. One second, they were fine, and the next, bang." Jackson added as Abby shook her head
" Then it isn't radiation."
"Come on, Abby. Wishful thinking isn't good science. " I told her
"It's not wishful thinking. One second, fine, the next, bang isn't how exposure to radiation presents." She snapped
"Well, it could be if there was enough of it." I voiced
"If there was enough of it, they would all be dead. Please let me be right." She wished as I too looked up at the photo of my daughter.
*back on earth*
"This isn't what I meant when I said take control." I told Bellamy as we stood by the roaring fire that kept us warm as we watched Murphy take off the delinquents wristbands.
"You want to be next?" He asked as I ignored him. I felt my anger rise but tried to keep it under control.
"Did I do something? To make you hate me? I mean I could care less but I would rather you not challenge me." He told me as I looked at him.
"I know what you did to get on the drop ship" I said calmly as his face went from confused to fearful to angry. He grabbed my upper arm and led me from everyone else.
"If you tell anyone. I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it." He said menacingly as I laughed mockingly as he showed me the gun that rested on his waistband
"I have one too mocking bird. Don't think you're so special." I said showing him my gun that too rested in my waistband. I put my shirt back down and crossed my arms.
"Im an engineer back on the ark. A CO2 scrubber was failing in the Factory Station so they sent me in the vents to fix it. Mostly because I was small enough to fit.
I heard Shumway give you the offer. I was getting out of the vents when Shumway found me. I tried to act it off. But it didn't work. Now I'm here. All because I overheard a little conversation.
So yeah I'm on earth because of you. No big deal right? Its just a radiation infested planet with two headed animals right? I overheard you talking to Octavia earlier. When you said you couldn't stay with us.
And if that's true just ponder over the fact that you'll be alone out there. Just something you should think about." I said patting his shoulder before I walked over to the tent I had made for Clarke and I earlier that day.
As I closed the flaps of the tents I took a deep relived breath. For a second there I actually thought he was going to shoot me. As I laid down and on the cot I started to hear drips. I sat back up at the drips got louder and harder.
I heard the others cheer. I got up from the cot and went outside. And I was met by falling water. Rain. I laughed and spun. My first rainstorm on earth.
"Hey ice queen!" I heard Wells says as I spun. I stopped and looked at him
"We need to collect this" he said as I heard faint chanting.
"What's happening?" I asked as I pulled my leather jacket closer to my body to try to gain some warmth.
"Bellamy. That's what's happening." He said as he clenched and unclenched his fists.
"What happened?" I questioned
"They're taking off their wristbands. They're liberating themselves. Have you saw?" He asked as I nodded
"I saw." I said as he looked at me
"And? You didn't do anything?" He asked
"Let them have their fun. Reality will hit soon and all this will be over." I said to him as he scoffed.
"Anyways, I confronted Bellamy about it. And he says we can to whatever the hell we want ." he said as I nodded
"Let's collect some water shall we?" I asked as I thought over what was just said.
*back on the ark*
"Lily.." I said as I walked over to the couch at home.
"Have you seen Lydia? Its late. I told her to be home at a respectable hour. If she's not home in the next ten minutes we'll send someone out to look for her." She said looking at her watch. It broke my heart hearing her asking about the whereabouts of our daughter.
"Lily." I said again as she waved me off
" She's your daughter. What should I expect you never listen just like her." She said as she put down the book she was reading and smiled as she looked at me
"She's our daughter." She said almost blissfully as I sat down next to her and took her hands in mines.
"I would die if anything happened to her." She said as she looked at me.
"Lily what I'm about to say...." I said not knowing how to tell her her faced changed from loving to worried
"What's wrong? Marcus. Did something happen to Lydia? Is she hurt? She's hurt isn't she? She's at the medical bay, I need to go." As she started getting up but I held her back.
"Lydia..is on Earth." I said as she froze in her tracks. I could she her eyes well up with tears. I stood up as she fell to her knees. I held her as she sobbed. The tears flowed down her cheeks like a river.
"How? How can you let this happen Marcus?" She cried at me as I held her closer to me as tears started welling up in my eyes too. I felt my chest clench and my throat tighten.
"My daughter! Lydia!" She sobbed. Her yells echoed as she cried out for her daughter. I felt powerless knowing there was nothing I can do to bring our daughter into our arms.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry" I repeated into her hair as she cried on my chest.
*back on earth*
Wells and I had collected as much water as we possibly could. As I got back to the tent I was dripping water. Almost like I had jumped in a lake fully clothed.
I took off my jacket and ringed out the water as best as I could. I didn't the same with my shirt's, with my pants, and aired out my socks. I took off my sports bra and undies because they were wet too.
I quickly got under a makeshift blanket and got settled in the cot before I drifted off into sleep.
*the ark*
" Councilor Abigail Griffin, you're under arrest for exceeding the maximum medical supplies allowed for a patient. Sorry this has to be public. The policy in these matters is very clear, no special treatment. How much blood did you use, Abby?" I said to Abby as I walked into the command center. The guards put cuffs on Abby as my eyes looked for Lydia making sure she wasn't a dark tile.
"Don't answer that. " Jackson said as my eyes switched over to him before looking back at Abby
"I used whatever it took. Breaking the law to keep you from becoming Chancellor was the easiest decision I've ever made."she said as I nodded slightly
"In that case, given your confession, in my role as Chancellor pro tempore, you leave me no choice but to find you guilty. " I declared
" We always have a choice, Kane. You chose to press charges against my husband, your friend, even though you knew he would get floated for it. You chose to include my daughter in those charges, and now you're choosing this. Hiding behind the law absolves you of nothing." She voiced
"Be that as it may, in accordance with penal code one, because all crimes committed by those above the age of maturity are capital crimes, you are hereby sentenced to death. Execution is set for the morning, and I choose at every turn and at any cost to make sure that the human race stays alive." I told her as I was getting ready to leave
" That's the difference between us, Kane. I choose to make sure that we deserve to stay alive." She said as I left.
*Earth*
"Any luck up there?" Wells asked as I kept working on fixing the communication system
"What does it seem like?" I answered back a bit annoyed that I couldn't fix it. I looked over the edge and saw Wells with a shovel. He told me he was going to bury the two kids that died during the landing.
He shook his head at me as he left to go bury the two kids. I crawled back to the mess of burnt nonworking wires and sighed.
"I'm an engineer. I can fix this. I'm Lydia Kane. This shits easy. Come on Lydia. Think Lydia think." I said to myself frustrated.
"I'm a fucking engineer. I create. I don't fix. I'm not a damn mechanic." I said out loud.
"What can I create?" I asked as I looked at everything around me.
"I need electricity. What has electrical current?" I asked myself. I stayed there for a while thinking.
Well not really thinking. My mind was blank. I was mesmerized by the beauty that earth had to offer. I saw the sun rise high in the sky blue sky. With pure white scattered clouds.
I was so captivated by the beauty that when I heard a scream I jumped. As I was brought back to reality I heard the thud of footsteps running to the source. I quickly got up and climbed down and jumped the last three feet with a small thud as I landed on the soft ground.
I jogged over to the crowd that had formed as I fought my way to the front. The crowd had started to cheer as I made my way to the front. I saw as Wells and Murphy fought. I looked for Bellamy and found him a couple of feet away.
"Is this what you want?" I asked him as he turned to me.
"Where have you been?" He asked as I rolled my eyes
"Again with the questions." I said
"Again with the nagging" he said in the same tone of voice
"If I have to bust your ass so you can take control I will Blake" I said seriously as I turned back to the fight. I would break it up but I wouldn't want to be the victim of a lost fist. I saw as Wells punched Murphy repeatedly on the ground.
"Wells, that's enough." I said in a assertive tone to try to get him to stop. And he did.
"Don't you see you can't control this?" Wells asked Bellamy as I looked at Bellamy with a raised eyebrow. I saw him as he looked at something behind Wells and he jumped forward.
"Wait." He said as I looked at him stop Murphy. I saw as Murphy had a knife in his hand.
"Fair fight." Said Bellamy as he took out a makeshift knife and dropped it on the floor for Wells. Bellamy stepped back towards me and he looked down at me with a smirk.
"Saw that? I took control." He said a with a proud smile.
"Stop the fight." I said calmly as he shook his head
"Let them wear out." He said as I shook my head
"They are having a knife fight. And one of them is going to end seriously injured. And guess who's going to tend the wound. I am. So either you stop the fight or I will. Your choice Blake. " I said standing in front of him as he looked between me and the fight behind me.
It seemed he was thinking of the outcomes. But he was taking too long. And I knew someone was going to get seriously hurt.
"That's enough!" I said firmly shaking Bellamy out of his thoughts. He looked at me and back at the two boys. I turned around standing tall.
"Put those away." I told them referring to the knives as I reached them.
"So I'm guessing radiation is taking too long to kill, am I right? So you're starting to kill each other." I told them like a mother reprimanding her children. They both looked down at the ground ashamed.
"But he started it." Wells said as I looked to him
"I don't give half a fuck who started it. I'm ending it. " I told them
"His dad floated mines. He deserves-" Murphy was saying but I raised a hand to silence him
"Then take it up with his dad. Not the son. "I told him kindly but it still had a trace of authority
"This is family now." I told Murphy as he looked at me
"What the hells going on?!" A voice interrupted us as I turned and saw Clarke beat up.
"Oh my god" I said as I saw an injured Octavia. I went over to her and kneeled down as Bellamy ran over.
"Where's the food?" Bellamy asked as I rolled my eyes.
"We didn't make it to mount Weather" said Clarke
"What the hell happened?!" Bellamy demanded
"Are you okay?" I asked Octavia as she nodded but I could see she was in pain
"We were attacked."
"Attacked? By what?" I asked
"Not what. Who. It turns out, when the last man from the ground died on the Ark, he wasn't the last Grounder. " Finn answered as he sat down looking dejected
"It's true. Everything we thought, we knew about the ground is wrong. There are people here, survivors. The good news is, that means we can survive. Radiation won't kill us." Clarke told the crowd
"Yeah, the bad news is the Grounders will. " Finn added as I counted
" Where's Jasper?" I asked not seeing him
"Jasper was hit." Clarke said sadly as I sighed sadly
" They took him. Where is your wristband?" Clarke questioned Wells.
"Octavia do you want me to take a look at the injury?" I asked softly ignoring the talking. She looked a bit skeptically
"Don't worry. I was a doctor back on the ark." I reassured her as she nodded
"Yeah..okay" she said as I helped her get up. She put her arm around my neck as I supported her as she limped her way through the crowd.
"You don't seem shocked about the grounders." She said as I sat her down on a log near the grass.
"I'm not really all that shocked. I mean 8 billion people can't just...die. Right?" I asked as she raised her pant leg.
"Right..?" She responded not sure.
"I mean I had a feeling." I said when I came back with a small pail of water and a cloth to clean out the wound. I tore off the dirty bandage that they had put and cleaned away the blood.
"I mean I figured there would be survivors once we didn't immediately die. And that two headed deer." I said shaking my head as she winced a bit
"Tell me where it hurts." I said as I touched around to make sure her leg wasn't broken.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" Bellamy jogged to us
"Okay. Well you didn't break anything but that cut is a bit deep." I said as I cleaned it one more time.
"You don't seem to have an infection. But I would recommend to keep weight off of it. And keep it a bit elevated." I told her as I rebandaged her wound.
"So what now you're a doctor now? What the hell are you going to be next? A surgeon?" He mocked as I stood up
"Don't push it Blake." I told him irritated as I walked away back to the drop ship.
" You came back for reinforcements. I'm gonna help." I heard Wells say as I pulled back the parachute flap
" Clarke, he's right. We need him. So far no one else has volunteered."
" I'm sorry, Monty, but you're not going, either." Clarke told Monty as I stood there waiting
"Like hell I'm not. Jasper's my best friend." Monty argued
"You're too important. You were raised on Farm Station and recruited by engineering." Clarke said
"So?"
"So food and communication. What's up here, it's gonna save us all. You figure out how to talk to the Ark and I'll bring Jasper back." Clarke said as she turned to look at me
" Hey. You ready?" She said as I nodded
"Let's go" I told her as Finn came in
"Come on" I told him as I started walking out
"I'm not going anywhere, and neither should any of you. That spear was thrown with pinpoint accuracy from 300 feet." He said
"So what, we let Jasper die? That's not gonna happen. Spacewalker? What a joke. You think you're such an adventurer. You're really just a coward." Clarke spat as Finn as I looked between the two
" It's not an adventure, Clarke, it's a suicide mission." He told her as I left the drop ship.
I looked around and put my hands in my jacket pockets as Clarke walked out of the drop ship.
"Come on" she said as I followed her towards where Bellamy was.
"You could have been killed." I heard Bellamy tell Octavia as we reached them
" She would have been if Jasper didn't jump in to pull her out." Clarke answered as we stopped
"You guys leaving? I'm coming, too." Octavia said rolling down her oant leg
"No, no. No way. Not again."Bellamy said as he sat her back down
"He's right. Your leg's just gonna slow us down." I agreed as Bellamy looked shocked that I agreed with him
"I'm here for you."Clarke told Bellamy as I turned to look at Clarke
"Clarke, what are you doing?" Questioned Wells but I stayed quiet to see what happened next
"I hear you have a gun." She told Bellamy as he raised his shirt a bit to show the gun
" Good. Follow me." She said as I followed
"And why would I do that?" Bellamy challenged
"Because you want them to follow you, and right now, they're thinking only one of us is scared." She explained lazily
" Murphy. Come with me. Atom? My sister doesn't leave this camp. Is that clear? " Bellamy ordered
"I don't need a babysitter." Octavia spoke up
"Anybody touches her, they answer to me." Bellamy said ignoring Octavia.
I followed Clarke as we walked into the woods.
"Those guys aren't just bullies, Clarke. They're dangerous criminals." Wells warned Clarke as she thought over what she just did
"I'm counting on it." Was all she answered as I nodded
*Bellamy p.o.v.*
"Since when are we in the rescuing business, huh?" Murphy questioned
" The Ark thinks the prince is dead. Once they think the princess is, too, they'll never come down. I'm getting that wristband, even if I have to cut off her hand to do it."I responded roughly
"What about the ice queen? She'll put up a fight." He asked
"I guess we'll save her for last then. We'll kill her if we have too." I responded
"If we can get near her." He added quietly as I mentally agreed.
*Lydia's p.o.v*
"I'm surprised you haven't complained yet Lyds'" Clarke said as I shrugged as I took off my jacket.
"What can I say? We need the manpower." I answer simply as I walked through the woods as Clarke offered to put my jacket in her pack.
"Did you get any electricity going?" She asked as I shook my head
"Nah I didn't get nothin' we need current. I have a few ideas on how we can get some though." I said as I looked over my shoulder to make sure Bellmy and Murphy were still following.
"And they are..?"
"Well I read electricity was discovered by Ben Franklin. But he was stuck by lighting and I'm not down for that.
The second way is a hydro generator." I said as I jumped over a fallen branch.
"How the hell do you make a hydro generator?" Wells questioned
"Well firstly I need a steady river or stream, a turbine, and an electric generator." I said
"Will it work?" Clarke asked
"I'm hoping it will. I just hope the damn drop ship has a propeller." I said
"Hey, hold up. What's the rush? You don't survive a spear through the heart. " Bellamy hollered waving the gun around in the air like no big deal
"Put the gun away, Blake." I sighed
"Well, why don't you do something about it, huh?" He told me as I smiled at his guts
"From what Clarke told me Jasper screamed when they moved him. If the spear struck his heart, he'd have died instantly. It doesn't mean we have time to waste."I said crossing my arms across my chest
"As soon as you take this wristband off, we can go."he said grabbing my wrist as Clarke stepped forward
"The only way the Ark is gonna think we're dead is if we're dead. Got it?" She said as I smiled at her confidence
"Brave princess." Bellamy turned his attention to Clarke but still held my wrist tightly.
" Hey, why don't you find your own nickname?" A new voice joined as I took back my wrist. Emerging from the trees was Finn.
"You call this a rescue party? Got to split up, cover more ground. Come with me." Finn told Clarke and I
"Maybe I should take my own way." I said as Finn turned to me
"You know for an engineer you're not that bright." He said as I started walking towards them
"You know for a spacewalker you're not that brave."
