"Come on" Alice yelled from up ahead. "I'm sure this time. We're really going to find them here!"
"That's what she said about the last place. And the place before that, and the place before that" Jasper grumbled with a sigh.
Adeline elbowed him in the chest (not that it actually did anything), "be nice, she's trying her best, and you have to admit it has been fun travelling together these past two years."
"That's true" he admitted, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her into his side, placing a short kiss to the top of her head.
Over the years the two had discovered that both of them were starved for simple gentle touches. As such, it was rare for the pair to not be touching or cuddling in some way and had become as natural and easy as breathing was for humans. It also helped with Jasper's protective instincts, as due to their pasts he was a lot more wary of others and liked to keep Adeline close so he knew that she would be safe. Adeline herself, loved this aspect of him, because she honestly never felt happier or more content than when she was in his arms, and it truly did make her feel safe, loved and protected.
"Hurry up you love birds! I found their house!" Alice squealed in excitement before rushing on ahead of them again.
"Alice I don't think that's a very good idea! You can't just go rushing at them like that! What if they think you are trying to attack" Jasper shouted after her, concerned for his friend's safety.
"We'll be fine. This is meant to be! You're such a worry wart Jas!" she said with a laugh.
It was then that they all came out of the trees into a clearing, only to see a huge man leaning over a dead bear, blood dripping from his mouth. The moment he noticed them, he let out a snarl and crouched down ready to attack.
Before Adeline could blink Jasper had reach forward and grabbed Alice, yanking her behind him and to her side as he positioned himself protectively in front of the two and let out a growl of his own.
"Stop! Stop! Jasper don't attack him! That's Emmet!" Alice cried.
The man, Emmet apparently, glanced away from Jasper and over to Alice, "and just how do you know that shortie?"
Skipping forward, neatly avoiding Jasper's attempt to stop her from getting closer, she giggled. "I'm sorry. We didn't mean to startle you. I'm Alice, the girl behind me is Adeline, and the man is Jasper. We're your new siblings!"
"Ally, you can't just go around announcing that! We've only just met the man!" Adeline said. You would think after two years of travelling with the girl she would be used to her tendency to get ahead of herself, but it still shocked her sometimes how Alice could rush into situations without a care. Although she supposed being able to see the future and how everything would turn out might make it difficult to stay in the moment.
A now smirking Emmet, obviously finding the group funny, began to rise from his crouch, "and just how do you know that we will be siblings shortie?"
"Because I saw it in a vision! It's my gift, just like how Edward can read minds! I saw us joining this coven! We have actually been looking for you guys everywhere!" Alice spewed out in a rush, obviously beyond thrilled to have finally found the people they have been looking everywhere for.
At this Emmet fully stood up and relaxed. "Interesting. Well then I guess I'd best take you to meet the family."
"You are? You're not going to question us some more?" Adeline asked, confused about how he could be so open and accepting.
Jasper was having similar thoughts, wondering if this was all a trap and refusing to let down his guard. Although he had risen back to his full height, he was still on edge.
"Don't see why not. I mean you guys have yet to attack me and if what shortie says is true -"
"Which it is" Alice cut in.
"- Then" Emmet said, talking over her, "I see no reason why I shouldn't. Besides its Carlisle that gets to make the final decision" he finished with a shrug, before setting off into the woods.
Alice happily skipped after him without a second thought, but Adeline and Jasper did not move.
"Do you think its okay" Adeline asked, nervous not only at the thought of following Emmet, but also about meeting this coven. Sure, it had seemed like a great idea in theory, but now that they were actually going to be doing it, she was nervous.
Jasper picking up on her emotions, sent her a wave of reassurance as he pulled her close to his side. "Don't you worry Darlin'. Alice assures us that this was meant to be and we will all be happy here, and if they do attack, we'll still be fine. I won't let anything happen to you two."
"Hurry up slow pokes!" Alice called from up ahead. So, with a sigh and a shared grin at their friend's endless enthusiasm and energy they set off after them.
Arriving at a house a short while later, they were met by four people standing out front, two men and two women. The blond woman, rushed over to Emmet's side the minute they got close, subtly checking him over for harm before shooting them a glare. Must be his mate Adeline thought, as she squeezed Jasper's hand in comfort.
"Hello, my name is Carlisle Cullen, and this is my wife Esme, my son Edward, my daughter Rosalie, and of course you have met my other son, Emmet" The tall blond man said with a kind smile on his face. "May I ask why you have sought us out?"
"I have a gift that allows me to see the future, and I saw us joining your coven!" Alice rushed out, excited to finally be meeting the rest of her family.
Edward scoffed, "and what makes you think we are just going to believe that or accept you?"
"Edward!" Esme said, shocked by her son's rudeness.
"Oh, it's alright Esme!" Alice said with a bright smile, "he just hasn't read my mind yet to make sure that I am not lying!"
Adeline, realizing that in her excitement Alice had forgotten her manners and Jasper was too much on guard to bother with it at the moment, took it upon herself to introduce their group. "Hello, I'm Adeline, this is my mate Jasper, and our very excitable friend, Alice." She said with a small smile aimed at Alice, who turned around to stick her tongue out at Adeline.
"Oh, hush Adie! We finally found our family! I'm allowed to be excited!"
"Yes, but not at the expense of our manners." Adeline replied with a fake scolding voice.
Emmet's voice boomed out in a laugh, "Oh I can tell you guys are going to be a lot of fun!"
After some more talking and sharing the three were welcomed into the Cullen family. They were a little shocked to learn that Adeline was an Elemental, especially Carlisle who had been around long enough to actually know something about them, but they accepted her with open arms anyways.
It took sometime for everyone to get comfortable with each other, but over the years they had all bonded and become a true family that loved and supported one another. Rosalie, who had become quite protective over Adeline, became a big sister to her. While Emmet, was the fun brother who was always laughing and joking with them. He also became Jasper's best friend (read: co-conspirator in trouble making). They hung out a lot, with Emmet really helping Jasper come back to himself and teaching him all about sports and games. Edward was the quiet younger brother. Although he did not like that title and Adeline secretly thought (or not so secretly, given she now lived with a mind reader) that he was really just upset that he could no longer claim the title of second eldest, as both she and Jasper were more than 50 years older than him.
Carlisle and Esme also became her parents, not just as an act they put on for the humans, but in her heart too. For the first time since she was 7, she had adults that looked out for her and supported her. Sure, her Uncle Matthew had been kind to her and loved her as if she was his own, but he never fully understood her need to run free. To kick off the weight of society and its expectations and enjoy her freedoms, going wherever the winds would take her. Carlisle and Esme understood that, and unlike her uncle, never tried to convince her to change how she acted to better fit into the mold society tried to force on her.
They lived together peacefully for years, moving every so often so the humans would not catch onto the fact that they did not age, but that was fine with Adeline and Jasper, who had always wanted to see more of the world anyways. They ran free in the highlands of Scotland, explored the jungles of the Amazon, climbed the Eiffel Tower in Paris at night, and had many more adventures. Things weren't always perfect; they still had their bad days. Adeline still had the odd panic attack and nightmare. Jasper still lost control of his thirst or felt the weight of his guilt for the things he did while with Maria. But now they had a whole family there to support them and help them get better. And they were, they were getting better and learning to enjoy their new lives. But sadly peace does not last forever, and in this case the end of their peace would come in the form of a young girl by the name of Isabella Swan.
