So, was my mother expecting me remember what my uncle looked like after so-and-so years? I didn't even know much about him. All I knew was that he was my father's brother, where I got my last name from, so yeah, that's it.
I sighed deeply and set my luggage down neatly and began searching for my phone. I moved some clothes here and there but it wasn't in the first luggage. I closed that one and opened the other but no phone... I paused for a moment and remember how my mother confiscated my phone earlier this month as punishment... and forgot to give it back.
I cursed and closed all my bags for the last time. Well, what do I do now?
After a while I decided that I should at least find a pay phone or something…if this air port even had one… Luckily, there was one nearby. I just jogged over there quickly, and took out some coins. I shoved them into the slot and began dialing...
It had took me, about five tries to actually get it right, and fifteen minutes to reach my mother.
"Hello?" Her raspy voice said.
"Um, hey mom...?" I said hesitantly, thinking maybe I got the wrong number.
"Macy, is that you?" I nodded, but then I realized she couldn't see me.
"Uh, yeah, it's me ma..." I answered. So...how could I put this out...
"Did you make it?" She asked eagerly. I rolled my eyes, of course she would have been excited I was out of her hair.
I sighed, "Yeah, I did ... um but the problem is..." I began and glanced over at my unguarded luggages, ya know someone could just as easyily walk by and take them...
"What is it, sweety? Is everything alright" she asked alarmed. Well, of course, I just wanted to waste six quarters just so that I could tell you everything was fine-other than the fact that, I don't know what my uncle looks like...
"Oh, uh, nothing, its just that...what does...um, what does my uncle look like again? can you give me some descriptions...?" I heard my mother sighed from the other end.
"Don't you remember? How could you not know, he's your uncle..." She asked sound irritated but yet tired.
"...no?"
"I mean seriously, how could you not remember your own uncle!? My brother in law? You've seen him before..." Yeah, like nine years ago...
"Don't you remember thanksgiving three years ago..?" My mind went blank...
Three years ago, what?
"Huh?"
"You remember the tall tan man who knocked on the door, the last guest?"
I blinked again, I didn't even think back to whatever she was talking about. "Mom, I have no idea what you're talking about..."
"Oh dear god, what am I gunna do with you..." Sending me back to my aunt's seems like a great idea to me!
"It's not my fault..." I mumbled.
"Just look for a man that is tall and tan. Ok, I can't seem to get anything through that thick skull of yours, goodbye."
My eyes widened, "Wait, what?" The line was already dead though.
"Are you serious? ... Hello?" I pulled the phone from my ears and hung up.
Gosh, she hung up on me. She really didn't care if anything bad happened to me. This reminded me of the time when I was 7 and she made me go to the groceries store by myself, and I remember what she told me when I asked, 'what if I got kidnapped...?'
Her answer: "Trust me, they'll bring you back..."
I hung my head slightly and I went back to my bags. I looked left and right, before sitting down on my luggage. I dropped my face into my hands and sighed deeply.
"Oh Uncle Sam, where for out thou?"
