The Hospital Visit

After arriving at the hospital, Laurie and I walk inside the Corey. She must have put a bandage around his hand while they were together. Standing at the reception desk was Nurse Deb. She was one of the people I hated the most here. Deb liked to act like a whore to the boss so she'd get a promotion and have some fun at his house. It was pretty gross how he laid his eyes on her, given how young she was.

"This gentleman had an accident and needs a little fix-up." Laurie said to Deb.

I gave Laurie a death stare. She knew I hated Deb. Corey takes a seat, and I go look for the boss. Technically, I couldn't help anybody unless I was being supervised. Before I could go find him, he turned around a corner and spotted me.

"Hey, Y/n. What are you doing here? I thought I told you, you're off today."

I was not going to let Deb near Corey.

"My friend got injured, so I wanted to help him."

"Oh, okay. Get him and come with me."

"Corey, come on."

I follow my boss into the medical room, with Corey behind me. He took a seat on the examination bed in the middle of the room. My boss, Dr. Mathis, takes an alchocal wipe and takes a seat in front of Corey.

"You have significant inflammation. Um, I'm going to be nice and numb it here so my assistant can clean it up really well, and then I will get back and close it with a suture."

Going into the corner of the room, I grab a pair of tweezers, so when he's done, I can make sure all of the glass is out.

"You're gonna feel a little bit of a pinch here."

I take my place beside Dr. Mathis and watch as he works on Corey's hand.

"Cute, isn't she?"

Corey turns his head away from me.

"I don't...OW!"

Corey yelled out in pain, and I accidently bumped into the medical stand, knocking it over.

"I'm so sorry." I said.

"Y/n, what are you doing?"

"It was my fault. Sorry." Said Corey."

"Y/n!" Shouted, Dr. Mathis.

I quickly tried to pick up all the supplies but failed miserably in my rushing.

"No, no, my fault. It was my fault." I said, not wanting Corey to feel like he did it.

"Just clean it up and get me a goddamn sterile kit. And give him a tetanus shot. I'll be back."

Dr. Mathis takes his gloves off, places them on the counter beside the door, and leaves, closing the door behind him. I also take my gloves off and place them in the sink beside Corey.

"You shouldn't let that guy talk to you like that. It's going to make you sad, even if you don't think it does."

"I've dealt with much worse. But thank you."

I take a seat in front of Corey.

"Anyway, I've just been dealing with it. Well, I'm supposed to get this promotion. But, either way, it's..."

"Is it worth it?"

"Not really, no."

"Then why do you do it?"

Sighing, I grab a pair of tweezers and dig into Corey's hand, taking out the left-over shards of glass.

"It keeps me distracted from what happened years ago. That's not something that can be easily forgotten."

Before he could speak, I tried to get him to not bring it back up.

"Don't move. You don't want it to get infected."

Taking out the last piece of glass, I drop it on the tray and lay down my treezers. Then I get the tetanus shot ready and give it to him.

"So, my car's been rattling."

"Rattling?"

"Yeah."

"Uh, It's just your exhaust system clamp's come loose. It's an easy fix. It takes, like, five minutes. You just need a lift and two screws."

"Can you fix it tomorrow at your job?"

"Sure."

Suddenly the door opened, revealing Dr. Mathis.

"You can go now, Y/n. He will be out soon."

I give Corey a quick smile, leave the room, and go outside looking for Laurie.

"Hey Laurie."

She was leaning on the wall with a cigarette in her mouth.

"I thought you quit smoking."

"Shit, you caught me."

"No, It's okay. If that's what you want to do, then go ahead."

"Don't go and follow my bad habits."

"I'm not a smoker, you know that. Never have, never will."

"That's good. Stay healthy while you can."

After a few minutes of trying not to breathe in Laurie's smoke, Corey came strolling out of the hospital entrance.

"Hey, Corey!" I shouted out, trying to get his attention.

Corey turns his head toward Laurie and me and walks towards us.

"How's your hand?"

I was generally concerned for him. That must have hurt so much, even though he's pretending it doesn't bother him.

"It's okay."

"We should go out sometime and do something."

"With me?"

"With both of us. I mean, we'd both have to be there. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a very good time."

"Yeah, I'll have to think about that. Uh, I'm gonna be late for dinner. But, I appreciate the hand. It feels better already."

"How about Laurie, drops you off at your house? I can ride your bike back."

"Thank you for the offer. But, I think I can handle riding now."

"Let the man, go Y/n. If he wants to ride, then let him." Replied Laurie.

"Well, okay, then let's go. Call me when you get home, Corey."

"Sure thing, Yn."

Corey walks off to his motorcycle, leaving Laurie and I there. Without noticing Laurie was gone, my main focus was on Corey.

"Hurry up, before I leave without you!"

"Coming!'

I ran to catch up to Laurie, as she already had the pickup started and was ready to leave this place.

By the time we got home, the sun was already setting. Has it really been that long? It didn't seem like it. There was a car sitting in our driveway. At first, I didn't know who it was until we got closer. It was Lindsey's car. The girl that survived Michael Myers. The girl that I could have killed but chose not to. She hasn't shown up at our house for about 4 weeks or so. I wondered what she wanted.

"So you did that on purpose?" Asked Lindsey.

"What?" Questioned Laurie.

Lindsey and I were currently sitting in the living room playing a card game, while Laurie was digging in a pumpkin to remove the seeds.

"He was injured, he needed medical attention, and Dr. Mathis is the best in town."

"Do you believe her?"

"Do not believe a word she says." I replied to Lindsey.

"You know, she's a strategist."

"Fine. Fine. Fine! Laurie yelled out from the kitchen.

"Just trying to play cupid." said Lindsey.

"What! He's cute. Y/n and him would make a great couple. Are you going to call him and invite him to the party? Or you're just going to go alone?"

I ignored Laurie.

"Pick a card."

Listening to Lindsey, I picked up a card off the table.

"Oh, no. I got the death card."

"No, that's not bad in tarot. That just means a major phase is ending and a new one is about to begin."

"You know, you need to find someone that can let go. That makes you want to rip off your shirt and show grief your fucking tits and say, "You know what? Let's go."

Laurie was holding up pumpkin guts and threw them onto the floor.

"Now you're just making a mess. I'm gonna head up for the night."

"Okay, Goodnight."

Heading up the stairs, I close my door and lay down on my bed. Reaching into my pocket, I pull out my phone. I open my messages and text Corey to ask him if he wants to go to a costume party tomorrow. He replied back instantly, saying he didn't have a costume. I told him I could fix that, and he said to meet him at his work tomorrow an hour later than he shows up, then he can fix my car. He was supposed to call me about it, but maybe his parents were being strict or something. Turning my phone off, I close my eyes and let my dreams take me away from my reality.
