It's the day of the final Yule Ball tournament and I could not be happier. As much as I've loved being able to cheer Cedric on and enjoyed the excitement of everything, I can't wait for things to go back to normal at Hogwarts.
At breakfast I wonder if I should sit with Blaise and Draco. The champions are currently preparing for the final task so Cedric is in the library so it's either sitting with them or sitting alone. But I haven't forgotten what happened either.
Blaise catches me staring for too long and starts waving madly.
"(Y/N)!", He says as i approach.
"Morning".
"How are you feeling?", Blaise asks. "Final day and all that. I reckon Cedric might win you know".
"I hope so", I smile.
Draco switches his gaze between the two of us.
"So", Blaise says and i see him subtly try to kick Draco beneath the table.
"I'm sorry about last night", I sigh, knowing Draco will be too proud to apologize first.
"Really?", He asks staring at me.
"Yes".
"I'm sorry for bringing her. I should've been more considerate", He says.
"Yeah you should've", I mutter under my breath.
"What?", Asks Blaise.
"Nothing", I smile.
"Where is Pansy anyways?", Blaise asks Draco.
"Fuck knows. Don't know and don't care".
"Fair enough. Personally i think you would've made a great couple", Blaise says sarcastically.
I laugh at this, "Draco would make a shit boyfriend", I say as lightheartedly as possible, even though i mean it.
He stares at me. "You really think?", He asks.
Before I can answer, there's a hand on my shoulder.
I turn around.
"Morning darling", Cedric smiles sleepily.
Draco turns away instantly and starts eating rather rapidly.
"Morning sweetheart", Blaise grins.
Cedric chuckles.
"Blaise!", I shout.
"Sorry, I got a bit carried away", He laughs.
"Can i steal you away by any chance?", He asks.
"Of course. See you later guys", I say.
"Have fun", Blaise winks. Draco nods politely but says nothing.
"Are you all set?", I ask Cedric as we walk out of the great hall.
"As much as I can be", He says.
"I know it's selfish but i'm glad this is almost over so i can see you more often again", I admit.
"Not selfish, just incredibly sweet", He smiles.
"No it's most definitely selfish", I laugh.
"Maybe a little. But i don't mind you being selfish when it comes to me", He grins.
I take his hand.
"Thank you for last night", I say.
"What do you mean?", Cedric asks.
"Just, thank you. I feel like i don't thank you enough for being so good to me.", I look away but he takes a hold of my chin and directs my gaze to him.
"You are my favorite person (Y/N). Id do anything for you", He says.
"I love you Cedric", I say.
"I love you too", He says and i'm sure he's going to pull me in for a kiss but he hugs me tightly instead.
"Do you know how scared I am of losing you?", He whispers.
"That's never gonna happen. You're stuck with me", I laugh.
"I'll be here until you tell me otherwise (Y/N)".
"Forever then?", I laugh. He grins softly.
"Yes, forever".
The tournament has begun. The champions must work their way through the Triwizard maze and the first one to find a way out wins. To me, it sounds incredibly simple but i know nothing is as it seems in this tournament. It is Hogwarts after all.
Hermione and Ron sit next to me as we both anxiously wait for someone to appear out of the maze.
Obnoxious music is playing loudly and yet my heart still thumps louder. Not only am i worried about Cedric i'm also worried about Harry. If i'm honest i don't really care who wins although it would be nice to have a winner in Hogwarts.
Time ticks by slowly as we wait.
Hermione twiddles with her thumbs and Ron yawns loudly. I think they're still in the process of being mad at each other.
Suddenly, different music begins to play and Harry and Cedric appear as though by apparition, on the floor.
Everyone gets up and starts cheering including me.
I smile at Hermione and Ron. It seems that Cedric and Harry have tied. I couldn't have wished a better end to this tournament.
Dumbledore walks towards them both to congratulate, a smile spread across his face.
I look closer at the two.
No, that can't be right.
Harry is crying, almost screaming it seems.
"STOP THE MUSIC!", Dumbledore bellows.
"Whats happening?", I ask.
Hermione clasps her hand over her mouth. A scream is heard from Fleur Delacour.
"No...there's no way", Ron says.
"What? Can someone please tell me what's happening", I say angrily. I feel everyone turning towards me, shocked stares on their faces.
I can feel my stomach churning. I feel ill.
I walk down the steps of the benches.
Something is wrong.
Cedric isn't moving.
He's not moving.
"CEDRIC!", I scream.
I run over to look at him.
His eyes are different. Cold and...
No.
This is not happening.
"CEDRIC", I scream.
I collpase onto the floor beside Harry.
"WHAT HAPPENED?" I shout.
Harry is still crying.
"WHAT DID YOU DO! WHY IS HE LIKE THIS? CEDRIC WAKE UP PLEASE.", I shake him by the shoulders.
"No. No, no, no. Cedric", I begin to cry.
"Please, it's me. It's me Ced. Don't do this to me".
The world has stopped.
Everyone is silent.
I latch onto his body.
"What happened to forever", I begin to cry.
"We promised. Please wake up. Please".
Cedric Diggory will not die today. I won't let him.
"He's back", Harry begins to say between sobs.
"Voldemort's back. Cedric he asked me to bring his body back. I couldn't leave him, not there", He cries.
Dumbledore try's to comfort Harry as i get up off the floor.
Any minute now, i'll wake up.
This isn't real. It can't be real.
If it were and Cedric were dead, the world would have stopped turning. I would have died with him.
"(Y/N)", A voice is saying.
"(Y/N)".
I stare and stare but nothing happens.
This isn't a dream, it's my worst nightmare come to life.
My knees give way beneath me.
My head is dizzy.
I hope i'm dying too.
I don't want to be alive without him.
How do i always end up in the hospital?
It's not normal.
This time however it's different.
This time i'm here because of the inside.
I sit up in bed, a moment of peaceful bliss as i think of nothing having just woken up.
Then it hits me.
Cedric.
My Cedric.
Gone.
Murdered.
Killed.
He should be the one here right now, getting wounds patched up after winning the tournament.
My eyes sting.
Every inch of me aches for him.
I long to hold him.
If i could, i'd hold him so tight and never let go.
If i could i would've told him to stay with me.
I would've saved him.
His eyes will never search for me in another crowded room.
I will never kiss him or touch him again.
Never be able to tell him how much i love him.
How dearly i love him.
My sweetness, gone, ripped away from me with no warning.
I begin to think I am cursed.
Maybe i was the moment i got that letter.
Or maybe i'm thinking too far ahead.
I was cursed the moment i came into this world.
I hope Cedric is peaceful now. I hope he can rest.
I make a wish for him as i fall into an unwilling sleep.
