I asked my parents if I can sleepover at Betty place since Eden had some personal family matters to do and they agreed in the middle of the night while we sleep I felt someone wake me up
"Hmmm" I looked up and it was ms. Cooper who also woke up Betty
"What?"
"What's happening?"
"Honey, it's your sister. She mutilated a nurse at Shady Grove. She almost clawed her face off." My eyes widen we both got up went down stairs and sat down in the dinning room where FP and her half brother Charles were
"Maybe this is a mistake. Polly's messed up, but she's not a literal monster."
"This is security footage from Shady Grove." He showed us a video on the laptop
"Okay, Polly is sitting there, looking like a zombie, but she's not hurt" as we keep watching she literally attacked a nurse and I mean all out
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God!" I closed the laptop fast ugh
"What the hell happened?" I asked
"She attacked that nurse for no reason."
"She'll only talk to you, she says. And alone."
"Okay. Well then I'll go talk to her."
"First, there's one more thing you should know. The nurse that Polly disfigured, her name is Betty." Oh God
I took her my truck and while we drove
"Betty are you sure you wanna do this I mean she went all phsyco on a nurse"
"I have to see why she did it" I nod once at shady green we enter the room polly was in and she was strapped down to the bed
"Heard you wanted to speak to me."
"Betty. Oh, thank God. You're the one I can trust. Can you tell us what's going on?" I asked
"Polly, can you tell me what's going on? You attacked a nurse named Betty."
"That's impossible. I can't remember any of what they're saying. I was in the rec room, and the next thing I remember, I'm in here and I'm chained to this bed. Please, Betty. Celeste You two have to believe me, Betty, please. I didn't do this. Please believe me. I didn't do it, Betty. I didn't do it, it wasn't me. Please, I didn't do it. I didn't do this, Betty. I didn't do it." Something does not go right here but what?. We went to back to her place and sat down in her kitchen while her mom made coffee
"The crazy thing is, we actually believe her."
"Honey, we saw it with our own eyes."
"Well, no, obviously, she did it, but not consciously."
"It's like she was fuguing or something." I said
"Wait a minute. The doctors at Shady Grove said Polly received a phone call about an hour or so before the incident." Then the phone rings
"Charles is trying to figure out the caller's identity."
"Your right tho their defiantly something up" I told Betty then her mom hangs up the phone
"What? Was it about Polly?" She walked over to a cabinet and grabs a large butcher knife
"What are you doing?" We get up slowly while her mom began to walk towards us with the knife
"What are you doing? Mom. Listen to Mom! You're acting just like Polly." She almost slashed us
"You're acting hypnotized." But I grab her wrist and betty claps which takes her out the hypnosis
"What's going on? Why am I holding a knife? Why is Celeste holding my wrist?"
"You don't remember?"
"Did somebody Did the phone ring, or did I imagine it?"
"No, it rang, you answered Whoever called must have said something that I don't know, triggered you into attacking me. Is that even possible?"
"We need Charles to trace that phone call." I told her letting go of ms. Cooper wrists and go to the station and speak to Charles
"What'd you find out, Charles?"
"Our hunch was right. The calls received by Polly and Alice came from the same place. Shankshaw Prison."
"Prison?" I question
"Charles, something must have been said on those calls that made Mom and Polly enter a trance-like state that turned them into deranged killers. As if they were hypnotized."
"I thought the same thing."
"And who do we know that uses auditory cues and hypnotism to control its members? The Farm. Edgar may be dead,"
"but his lovesick lackey Evelyn sure isn't." I said
"She's in prison. Any chance that prison is Shankshaw?" We went to go and visit ms. Culty in prison once their we sat down and she appeared behind the other glass
"Took you long enough and it looks like you brought husband killer with ya" I rolled my eyes
"Hand me phone would you bet" she does
"Your lucky i don't pay someone from the inside to rip your head open EV so shut up" I hand the phone back to betty
"You weaponized my family against me by calling them and triggering some post-hypnotic suggestion. What's the directive? How exactly are you getting your sleeper cells to turn?"
"When I deliver the activation, the receiver turns into you."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"They become Betty. As in, Betty Cooper, as in, you."
"Why did Polly attack a nurse named Betty? Why did my mom come after me?"
"When triggered, they become Betty. They try to kill dark Betty, evil Betty, other Betty."
"You mean they try to murder me."
"Elegant, isn't it? It was Edgar's idea. When they hear the trigger word, they become you. And therefore, try to kill you."
"You're a psycho." I tell her
"Mm-hmm."
"So what exactly is the trigger word, Evelyn?" I asked her
"Tangerine. Repeated three times in a row. Tangerine. Tangerine. Tan" I hanged it up and looked at Betty we went back to Charles
"We left before she could say it a third time. But what the hell would happen if I heard the trigger word three times? Would I be activated and wanna kill myself?"
"One way to find out. We try it here." I said
"Tangerine. Tangerine. Tangerine." We waited for something but nothing happened
"I don't understand. Nothing happened."
"Maybe because you're already Betty?"
"Well, the good news is, you're officially not a ticking time bomb." I said later that night I went home to relax a bit and was looking at some of my old picture when I was a kid Eden crawled into bed with me hugging me from behind
"I missed you bibi"
"I missed you too"
"So this was you as little girl"
"Yep"
"You looked beautiful"
"Thank baby" He snuggle his head into my neck
"Oh your in a cuddle mood"
"I am" he said his head on my skin I smiled then I got a text from Cheryl
"Hey can we go somewhere."
"Um sure." We got dress and drive to Sweetwater and see the gang there and Cheryl with Toni and Jason dead corpse.
"Thank you all for coming. You all were here last time I was at this river. When I tried to take my own life. It's only fitting that you're here now." I held Eden hand tearfully
"My beloved Toni, as I give Jason, at long last, the funeral he deserves." We see her burn her brother body and the boys push it into the water and we see it drift off to Sweetwater.
