Chapter 13: Daddy Issues

No one's POV
Ariana left her house to go for a morning run so she could clear her head while everyone else was still asleep. She turned around to find Tyler waiting on her porch.
"Hey. How's it going?" Ariana spoke.
"We need to talk." Tyler muttered in an almost dangerously calm voice.
"Yeah, we do. Listen... I've been thinking about it, and I don't want to over analyze. It was just one kiss, but I've only just got back together with Nathan and I love him. We can't go there, Tyler." Ariana explained.
"Fine."
"Great. That's settled." Ariana smiled at Tyler and walked past him, putting her hair into a pony so she could begin her run, but Tyler's next words made her freeze.
"What happened to my uncle Mason?"
"What?"
"He's dead. Caroline won't give me any proper answers, so maybe you will." Tyler said.
"I... I don't--"
"Then let me tell you..." Tyler cut Ariana off. "Stefan, Damon, and your own boyfriend killed him, because Stefan, Damon, and Nathan are vampires, just like Caroline."
"Who told you that?" Ariana asked.
"Is it true?" Tyler ignored her question.
"Let me explain..." Ariana sighed.
"Did you know he was dead this whole time?"
"Please..."
"Did you know?!"
Ariana slowly nodded. Tyler looked furious.
"I'm sorry, Tyler. I'm sorry..."
"I trusted you!" Tyler shouted, probably waking up one or more people in Ariana's house. He regained some of his composure and left.
Ariana was stunned and upset.
She grabbed her phone and sent a quick text to a kind of 'double date' group chat including herself, Nathan, Stefan, and Elena.

Before Stefan and Nathan arrived, Ariana and Elena first had an 'updates' talk. Ariana told Elena that Tyler knew that the Salvatore brothers were vampires, and then Elena told Ariana that John told Jenna that he was our biological father, leaving Jenna beyond shocked. But, who could blame her?
No one was in the Gilbert residence except Ariana and Elena, so they let Stefan and Nathan in once they arrived.
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked.
"Tyler knows about you two and Damon. He knows that Damon killed Mason. I didn't say a word, and neither did Caroline. I've already talked to her over the phone about it this morning." Ariana explained.
"It's that woman, Jules. She had a run-in with Damon." Stefan said. "Wow, this is bad."
"You guys aren't gonna tell Damon, are you?" Ariana asked.
"No! He already wants to kill him. He thinks all werewolves should die, and he's not wrong to think that, Ana." Stefan said to one of his best friends.
"What if Tyler tries to retaliate? He has every right to. He could get himself killed." Nathan added.
"Well, we're not gonna let that happen." Elena spoke up. "We have to get to him and reason with him before he does something stupid."
"Would you guys mind talking to him?" Ariana asked Nathan and Stefan. "Just try to explain, you know? Both of you always know the right things to say, okay? He and I... we're friends."

Not long after Stefan and Nathan left, Damon arrived, and Ariana let him in.
"Where's John?" Damon asked.
"He's not here, he left. We don't know where he went." Ariana replied.
"He just blew in, announced to Jenna that he's my dad, and then took off." Elena added.
Although she still majorly disliked Damon, she'd been quite soft with him lately. Mainly because she was feeling pity for him. She knew he cared about Rose, so Elena was temporarily putting her hatred on hold to try and become acquaintances of some sorts with the oldest Salvatore brother.
"That's public knowledge now?" Damon questioned. Both Ariana and Elena nodded. Damon only spared Elena a quick glance before giving Ariana his full attention. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Jenna's head spinning, but I'm okay." Ariana replied.
"He said what he was doing here?" Damon said.
"No. You know, Stefan thinks that he's telling the truth about wanting to help us." Ariana muttered.
"Do you guys believe him?" Damon responded.
"Neither of us believe him for a second." Elena scoffed.
"Me neither." Damon sighed.
"What are we gonna do?" Ariana asked Damon.
"Kill him." Damon turned to leave.
"Damon..." Ariana warned.
"I'm joking! Okay, I'm a little serious."
"Damon!"
"I'm not gonna hurt him, Ana!" Damon rolled his eyes. "I'm the good guy, now, remember?"
"What does that mean?" Ariana frowned at Damon.
"I'm gonna have a civil conversation with your father."
"Wait!" Ariana stopped Damon again. "I'm coming with you! Are you, Elena?"
"Going somewhere with you and Damon? I think I'll skip the awkward, and maybe slightly sexual, tension." Elena joked. Ariana decided to ignore that, but Damon smirked in amusement at the slight blush that appeared on Ariana's face. "Give me updates later?"
"Of course." Ariana nodded. "See you later, E."
So, Ariana followed Damon out the door.

Damon and Ariana entered the Grill and saw John stood beside Alaric and Jenna's table.
"We just need answers. Please don't do anything stupid." Ariana muttered to Damon.
"Yeah, but stupid is so much more fun." Damon smirked.
"Damon, I mean it..." Ariana sighed. "Please just try to keep it together. Be the better man."
"Okay then." Damon said. They walked over to John.
"John, buddy." Damon greeted. "How have you been?"
"I've been all right, Damon. It's good to see you." John played along in the presence of Alaric and Jenna.

Damon was at the bar. Jenna joined him. She was with a woman.
"So, my friend wants to meet you. Damon Salvatore, this is--"
"I know you." Damon cut Jenna off, turning to the woman beside her. "The news lady."
"Yeah, Andie Star. Nice to meet you." Andie Star smiled. "Can I buy you a drink, Damon?"
"My glass is all full, Andie. Thank you." Damon replied, then left and returned to Ariana, who'd been watching them.
"You totally blew her off."
"I'm steering clear of all women at the moment." Damon shrugged.
"You didn't have to be rude." Ariana pointed out.
"Trust me, it's in the best interest of women everywhere." Damon muttered. Ariana's phone rang. She answered it.
"Nathan? What is it?"

Damon and Ariana were in the restroom. On the phone, Nathan had told Ariana that Caroline had been captured by Jules and wouldn't be released until they handed over Tyler to them.
So, after her phone call, Ariana had finally told Damon about Tyler knowing he and his brothers were vampires.
"Why am I just finding out about this now?"
"Nathan and Stefan were worried that you--"
"That I'd what? That I'd kill him?" Damon interrupted Ariana. "Of course, it's what's need to happen."
"No, Damon, not Tyler. Do whatever you need to do to get Caroline back but just leave Tyler out of it, okay? He's my friend!" Ariana exclaimed.
"Why? He's a werewolf, he needs to die!" Damon argued. "I'm willing to kill him, it's a win-win."
Before Ariana could say anything else, John entered the restroom.
"Do you mind?" Damon glared at John.
"What's going on?" John wondered.
"Nothing." Ariana answered. John didn't look convinced.
"It doesn't look like nothing."
"Well, guess what, John, trust works both ways. Get out." Damon snapped.
"Look, we don't have time for this. We need to get Caroline back." Ariana cut in.
"We don't need to do anything. I'll take care of it." Damon informed. He turned around and looked at John. "First dad duty: ground your daughter. Keep her here."
Damon left.

Ariana stormed out of the restroom, but John stopped her.
"You're not leaving this restaurant."
"You can't tell me what to do!" Ariana exclaimed angrily.
"Yes, I can." John replied. "You wanna know why? Because I'm here to make sure you stay safe."
"I've got that covered." Ariana said.
"Are you talking about the deal that Elena made with Elijah for both of you? Do you really think he's gonna keep his promise to either of you? Putting your faith in him was a dumb move." John stated.
"Are you saying I should put my faith in you? After everything that you did to Nathan, Damon, and Stefan?"
"We've had our differences, and I've made mistakes, but you and I, we're family." John muttered. Ariana glared at him.
"You don't get to use that word. That word is off-limits to you!"
"Fine, but it doesn't change the facts." John sighed.
"You're right. Facts are facts, so listen up: you may be my father, but I'm never going to be your daughter, you got that?" Ariana snapped. She left, feeling like she was a little too harsh. But she didn't have time to care about that right now. She didn't have time to care about anything else but the safety of her best friend. She just hoped Caroline was alright...

After discovering that Caroline was safe and at home, Ariana wasted no time in rushing over. She knocked on the door and Caroline answered.
Caroline's mood immediately brightened at the sight of Ariana and she pulled the human into a hug.
"Ari!"
"C, are you alright?" Ariana quickly asked as soon as they pulled away from the hug.
"I am now. Now that I've managed to get all of the darts out of my skin and cleaned all the blood off." Caroline muttered.
"You scared the hell out of me, C." Ariana sighed.
"Sorry..." Caroline frowned.
"Don't apologise." Ariana chuckled slightly. "It wasn't even your fault, don't worry. All we need to worry about is if you're definitely okay."
"Then I guess it's a good thing that I'm as good as new." Caroline grinned. "The perks of having vampire healing." Both girls chuckled.
"How about I make us some hot chocolates and snacks so we can talk?" Ariana suggested, praying that Caroline would say yes. It seemed that they hadn't been as close since Caroline turned into a vampire, so Ariana wanted to strengthen their best friendship again.
"I'd love that." Caroline smiled. Ariana smiled back and headed towards Caroline's kitchen, just as the doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" Caroline opened her front door and came face to face with Tyler.
"Who is it?" Ariana shouted from the kitchen, but Caroline didn't reply, so Ariana headed to the front door to investigate herself. She saw Tyler.
"Are you okay, Caroline...?" Tyler asked quietly.
"I'm fine."
"I had no idea they would come for you." Tyler informed.
"Do you know what they did to me?" Caroline muttered.
"I'm sorry, but it's crazy now, okay? I don't know who to trust. You lied to me." Tyler pointed out, then glanced at Ariana. "You both did!"
"We lied to protect our friends. We lied to protect you." Ariana spoke up.
"Guys--"
"You just stood there when they were going to kill me." Caroline interrupted Tyler. "You just stood there! You didn't do anything!"
"You did what?!" Ariana yelled. She hadn't been told the full story of what happened after the Salvatore brothers went to save Caroline. Just that they knocked all of the wolves out and rescued her.
"I didn't know what to do!" Tyler defended himself.
"You help your friend, that's what you do!" Caroline shouted. Tyler looked down.
"I'm sorry..."
"No, it's too late, because we're not friends anymore. And what happened to me tonight, that will never happen again. So, you take that back to your little werewolf pack, and you get the hell out of my house!" Caroline screamed, then stormed back into her house.
It was silent for a moment, before Tyler glanced at Ariana.
"Ari--"
"You don't know how much you deserved that. And I hope you know that you've lost me as a friend, too. Tell your precious wolf pack that if they come after my best friend again, I've got three vampires, a Bennett witch, and an Original on my side that will happily kill them all." Then, Ariana slammed Caroline's door in Tyler's face.

Elena took a bottle of water from the fridge, and when she closed it, John was waiting for her on the other side of the door.
"I'm sorry about earlier."
"Enough, already." Elena sighed. "I don't want you here. and I can't make that anymore clear."
"I didn't come here to fight with you, Elena." John muttered.
"Yeah, I know, you're here to protect me and my sister. Got it, get in line." Elena snapped.
"I thought you or Ariana might want this. It was your mother's." John handed Elena a bracelet.
"Isobel?"
"No, your mother, Miranda." John corrected. "I remember her wearing it when she was young. I found it in a box with some things that your dad left me. Here, it's yours now."
John handed it to Elena, who pocketed it. She was going to give it to Ariana instead, who would probably appreciate wearing something of her mother's more than anyone.
"Miranda and Grayson were your parents, Elena... and Ariana's, and I know I'm nothing to either of you. You have no reason to believe me or trust me. I've done so many horrible things, but when you girls lost your parents, I lost my brother, my family. I lost my way. I know that I probably won't ever make things right with you, but I'm gonna do everything I can to protect you, protect Ariana, and protect this family." John explained, then left. Elena started crying. She turned her head and saw Stefan and Nathan. She rushed into Stefan's arms.
"Are you guys okay?" Elena asked.
"We're fine." Stefan responded.
"Is Ana here?" Nathan wondered.
"She came by not long ago to pick up some of her things. She's spending the night at Caroline's, but she'd definitely appreciate a visit from you." Elena told Nathan. He nodded, smiled as a thanks to Elena, then left to go to Caroline's to visit his girlfriend. Elena turned back to Stefan and hugged him again.

Damon was in his bathtub, taking a bubble bath with Andie Star. He was kissing her cheek.
"I can't believe you called me. I thought I was being way too forward when I had Jenna give you my number." Andie spoke.
"I like a woman who knows what she wants." Damon smirked his usual smirk.
"Thank you! So, what do you want Mister tall-dark-and-handsome?" Andie grinned.
"I need a distraction."
"You can booty-call me anytime you want."
"You see, the thing is, miss sexy-reporter-girl, I have a problem I need help with. It's really messing with my mind." Damon mentioned, catching Andie's full attention.
"Oh, tell me about it."
"I'm in love with a woman I can never have..." Damon informed, his mind flashing to Ariana.
"I knew it. I know how to pick 'em." Andie sighed. "So, why can't you have her? She's with another man, I assume?"
"Yeah. but that's not the point. The point is, I'm in love with her, and that drives me crazy. I'm not in control." Damon said.
"You don't trust yourself around her?" Andie asked.
"I don't trust myself around anyone, Andie." Damon corrected. "I'm bad, Andie. I do things. I kill people." Andie realized he was serious and felt afraid but Damon compelled her. "Don't be afraid, you're okay."
"Why do you kill people?" Andie murmured.
"Because I like it. It's in my nature, it's who I am. But then, I have to stay together to protect her, and she wants me to be the better man, which means I can't be who I am." Damon explained. "Do you see the problem I'm having, Andie?"
"Well, maybe this is who you are now. Love does that, Damon, it changes us." Andie told.
"Just stop talking. Just kiss me, be my distraction." Damon said. They kissed.
After a moment, Damon started kissing her neck, and then bit her on the neck and fed from her.

Why the hell am I always only writing chapters at night? I barely ever do anything through the day, but it's like I never have the motivation to write except at night time. So, yeah, it's currently 2am. Well, 1:59am, to be more specific.
Well, what did you think? Near the end of the chapter, it was originally going to be a sleepover between Caroline, Ariana, Elena, and Bonnie... but I wanted you guys to see Caroline and Ariana's friendship grow! I keep trying to add their 'best friendship' in whenever I can, because them two are my favourite friendship in this book. I want you guys to see how protective Caroline and Ariana are over to eachother. How much they mean to one another, and how much they love eachother.
Who is your favourite friendship in this book? Is it also Cariana? Mine, too! Seriously, though, their friendship is 100% endgame <3
Now, what else to say about this chapter...? I have no idea.
Just that Jules and all of her werewolf friends can go burn in hell! I get that you just want to protect Tyler, Jules,which is sweet and I quite admire your loyalty... BUT YOU DON'T JUST KIDNAP MY COMFORT CHARACTER AND EXPECT ME NOT TO HATE YOU!
I love Caroline so much, and I'll happily murder anyone who hurts her :)
