Chapter 37: A Meeting of Young Lords

3.2K 95 202
By Winter_Wanderer

(Your POV)
It was now the next day, and I was able to get out of the studies thanks to my efforts last night, but I was slightly tired, so I was modifying a clown mask Kankuro gave me. Whenever I used my eyepatch. I felt unbalanced because it only displayed information in one eye, so I'm using this mask to display intel just like it, but for both eyes. With that said, I was able to go with Rias' peerage, plus Asia, to the location where the meeting was, which was the old royal capital Luciferd. While I was a fan of keeping peace, I was still careful, and had Mule come along with me while I had my primary weapons, Genbu, Gae Bulg, Crimson Javelin, Solais, the bendy knife, and Lauer on me. I also had some utility items in Mule's bags, like the shovel and landmines.

"(Y/N), don't you think you're a little too armed for this?" Kiba asked, gesturing to my weapons, and I shrugged.

"Everyone here without a doubt is better than me at magic, and are most likely incredibly powerful, so I decided to bring everything." I explained in a calm manner. "Besides, I'm a stand in for Issei right now since he's busy with studies."

"Just so we're clear, we'll be meeting up with other hiers such as Sona and myself, so stay calm under all circumstances." Rias ordered, and I listened to her because Issei still has her pawn pieces inside him, making me a member of her extended peerage. "These people will be our rivals going forward, so act superior."

"Wait, I have to fight Sona?" I didn't want to fight Sona, Sona was a good person, even though we don't really talk that much to one another.

"No, I mean politically, and I doubt Sona wants to fight you, so she'll most likely treat you the same." Rias explained, and I was glad for that. "Wait a minute, is that...Sairaorg?"

"Hey, long time no see Rias." Sairaorg looked like a tall individual, almost rivaling me in terms in height, but I was taller than him by a couple centimeters.

"Glad to see you're doing well Sairaorg." Rias and this Sairaorg fellow shook hands before Rias introduced us to him. "Everyone, this is Sairaorg, my cousin on my mother's side. He's the heir to the house of Bael."

"Nice to meet you Red Dragon Emperor." Sairaorg thought I was the red dragon, so I had to explain that I was (Y/N), and Issei was held back by his studies of devil etiquette. "(Y/N)...the lunatic who managed to fight the white dragon with his bare hands? That's quite impressive!"

"I am honored by your words Lord Sairaorg." I bowed slightly to the man. "Forgive me for being nosy, but shouldn't you be in the meeting room, it should be starting in a couple minutes?"

"I didn't want to waste my time, besides, Zephyrdor and Seekvaira are back at it again." Sairaorg informed me, and I was confused until an explosion blasted the door wide open, and I grabbed Rias to move her away from the door.

"Do you wish to die Zephyrdor?" A woman with a stern glare was talking to a man who looked to be on the same level of insanity as Freed judging from the look in his eyes. "I doubt anyone will mind if I did dispose of you."

"Hah! The way you drive all the guys away, no wonder you're a virgin!" The man I think is Zephyrdor was officially insane, so I assume the other woman is Seekvaira. "I was just offering to make the entrance ceremony more interesting."

(A/N: Is everyone we're supposed to hate going to be a walking fashion disaster or what?)

"Excuse me, you both causing a ruckus, could you two stop?" I stood between the two of them, and Sairaorg looked at the spot where I once was, where I was currently, and back.

"Eh, who the hell are you to tell me what to do?!" Zephyrdor then punched me in the face, but I didn't even feel it, and Zephyrdor recoiled in pain like he just punched a rock. "What are you made of?!"

"I am made of flesh and bone, now I ask you again, please silence yourselves before the meeting starts." I glared at Zephyrdor whilst towering over him giving me the advantage in intimidation.

"My my, if it isn't the Ultimate Immortal I've heard so much about." A person with closed eyes walked behind me, and I turned around to greet him. "My name is Diodora, heir of the Beezlebub family."

"Nice to meet you, Lord Diodora." I shook the man's hand, but as I did, I noticed a sinister scent coming from him, so I decided to keep an eye on him.

"What a display." Sona walked into the room, most likely commenting on how I handled Zephyrdor. "Being able to take care of someone like him without using force is good."

"I am honored by your words Lady Sona." I commented, and a voice came from a nearby door.

"Thank you for waiting, young Lords and Ladies." An elderly voice came from the door, and Rias was about to leave, but then she told me something.

"You guys go wait in the waiting room, if they see you, it might look a little suspicious."

Rias only said if they see me, and I had an idea. I turned myself invisible before creating a clone of myself out of mist. To ensure I was completely silent, I removed all my gear except for the Lauer and knife off me, then I gave the gear to my clone. I quickly entered the room behind Rias after going to Mule and I put on the mask I was modifying.

When I put on the mask, it began displaying important information and possible tactics. Just before the doors closed, I entered the door and placed my fingertips on the walls, creating magic strings to connect myself to the walls and allowing me to climb up it like a lizard. I also used the strings to attach the tips of my shoes to the walls, releasing them whenever I moved from point to point until I was on the ceiling. Around the room were two jury-like boxes with several bearded and elderly men, they looked to be politicians. Thanks to my training from the Ultimate Secret Santa, I have been able to get a better judge of people's character, and I can tell these politicians are rude, but are just here for their jobs. At the center of the elevated ground that elevated the boxes were Sirzechs and Serefall, along with two others, must be these four Satans I've heard much about.

"I officially declare this meeting; open." Like a judge, a man with a beard got everyone's attention, and I noticed Rias and Sona stood along with the other four guys in a straight line, facing this group.

"Getting straight to business, the six of you represent the futures of your respective families." Sirzechs radiated an entirely different aura, now it was more mature, what I'd expect from a leader. "Each of you have displayed your skill and power before, I think it would be better for each of you to compete against one another before you debut."

"Like rating games?" Seekvaira questioned, and I prayed to Dagda or Huitzilopochtli that I won't have to fight Sona, she's my friend, and I don't like fighting friends.

"I was thinking more like something of a spectacle or a show of strength, but that's not too far off." Sirzechs replied to Seekvaira's question. "By inviting the leader of the angels and fallen angel, we can show then we trust them enough to show off the power of our younger generations."

"Will any of us be joining the fight against the Khaos Brigade?" Sairaorg questioned, and he looked like he was ready for a fight, not just ready for one, but wanting one.

"If at all possible, no, we'd like to keep each of you away from the battlefield if at all possible." Sirzechs was careful in his planning. "If we lost any of you, the underworld would lose their future leaders, and that would be a tragic loss. With that said, I was hoping to know what drives each of you."

"I want to be the Devil King." Sairaorg announced boldly, and he sounded rather confident. "Once the people of his realm see that I'm the only worthy candidate for devil king, it will happen."

Rather confident isn't he?

"My goals for the near future are to stay as the heir to the Gremory family while winning Rating Game tournaments." Rias claimed, but this is the first time I'm hearing of such a Dream, must be a lie to hide her ambitions. "As for the later future, there's a certain someone I wish to support."

"As for me, I would like to open a school for teaching devils about Rating Games." Sonia's goal was surprisingly simple, but Sona was anything but simple, she was super smart.

"There's already facilities designed to help devils learn about rating games, what's so special about yours?" A dark haired devil asked, and I was tempted to kill him on the spot, but Rias gave subtle hand signs, signaling for me not to do anything.

"Those facilities only give access to the small parts of the populace who were born into aristocratic families." Sona's goal became clear, and I will do everything within my power to support that goal. "My goal is to open up a school where everyone can enlist in."

"That's nothing more than a little girl's pipe dream!" Everyone except for the four Satans and six hiers began laughing their asses off, and I looked at Rias' hands, noticing it changed into a new sign.

'Show them.'

I walked on the ceiling silently until I was above the man who first insulted Sona, then I dropped down onto the ground directly behind him. I unsheathed my knife silently before creating several strings from my fingertips. I used magic to create a small ring around each of the laughing politicians' necks, careful not to touch any of them. Once everything was set in place, I deactivated my invisibility, pressed my knife around the first one's throat, and tightened the string rings around the politicians' necks, careful not to kill them, but enough to cause some pain.

"In a society where the weak rule the strong, weaklings such as yourselves should know to bite your tongues." The mask had a built in voice changer, and I sounded kind of robotic. "Especially considering your bones look like they could snap with one foul move from a cat's tail."

"W-Who are you, I'll have you killed!" The man looked at me through the corner of his eye, noticing that I was wearing a mask, he couldn't identify me.

"I am eternal." I leaned closely to him to increase my intimidation factor. "Death will never catch me. My skills surpass his."

"Do something about him, Sirzechs, Serafall!" A politician begged, but neither of the two really seemed to care.

"That's what you get for making fun of my little sister!" Serafall shouted, and she clearly approved of my actions.

"I will only allow each of you to talk once you finally change your laws, giving the weak ones a voice, only then will your words hold any weight." I ordered, and I noticed Rias sign for me to stand down. "Remember, give the weak ones a voice, and I shall return yours."

I dismissed my string and pulled my knife away before using a smoke bomb to turn myself invisible once again and climb the walls onto the ceiling. Sirzechs seemed to not mind my little interruption, and continued the meeting as usual. "With that said, Sona, Rias, why not challenge each other to a rating game, you two are close?"

"I accept the challenge, but I'm afraid one of my pieces won't be here, since he's busy with college." Sona informed us, and I decided to stay out of this fight since Sona would be missing a piece.

"That's good to hear, because I'm pretty sure one of my pieces will also be staying out of the fight because he doesn't wish to fight you Sona." Rias explained, and I guess I did count as her piece since Issei had her pawns inside him, still making him a member of her peerage, and somehow making me and Asia members by default.

"Alright then, to make it fair, Sairaorg will fight Zephyrdor, and Diodora will fight Seekvaira." Sirzechs explain before adjourning the meeting. "I hereby call this meeting closed, good luck."

The meeting was officially done and the door behind the young heirs opened up to reveal both Sona and Rias' peerages waiting behind them. I walked along the roof and through the door. I was still invisible, so no one saw me. I walked to my clone made of mist and dispelled it before deactivating my invisibility. I took off my mask and placed it back in Mule's bag. I picked up all my gear and acted like I didn't infiltrate one of the most secret meetings in hell. "Lady Rias, Lady Sona, how did the meeting go?" I asked, and Rias and Sona both smiled when they saw me.

"The meeting went well, but Rias and I now need to fight each other in a rating game." Sona explained what happened inside the meeting, and given how she knows me, she knows I was the one with the clown mask.

"You don't have to participate in it because Sona will be down a piece as well." Rias continued the act of feigning ignorance on my side. "Besides, Your skillset is more suited for brutality and assassination, making you more suited for warfare rather than just sparing."

"It wasn't addressed in the meeting, but chances are you'll be sent to fight the Khaos brigade along with Issei." Sona commented, and I didn't see that in the meeting. "While Issei is the natural rival to Vali, on account of the whole Red and White Dragons, the faction's need your modern way of thinking to carry out most missions. Since the Khaos brigade most likely came up with strategies to counter our current ones."

"I am honored, but I should focus more on learning the talents of my underclassmen and honing those skills." I reminded the girl, who nodded in understanding. "I would like to focus more on crafting skills, like Toxicology, Steampunking, Chemist, Carpenter, and such."

"You plan on incorporating poison and machinery into your fighting style?" Sona questioned, and I nodded to confirm this. "That's quite dangerous, even for us devils, so be careful when it comes to poison. Also, try not to rely on the exorcism skills written there, they may be for ghosts, but there's some stuff in there that could harm us devils.

"I am honored you're worried about me, but your worries are ill placed." I may not be immortal anymore, but my body was capable of withstanding most poisons even before becoming a devil. "My body has a unique ability known as Adaptive Immunity, which is just an enhanced version of the immune system. If I'm exposed to something like poisons or ailments for long enough, I'll become forever immune to it and anything of the same category but weaker than it."

"I read into that ability of yours, and while you won't die from poisons and such, you'd still be under the side effects of it until you're immune to it." Sona seemed concerned with whether or not I'm in pain. "Remember to take care of your body, it's not just some tool to protect all of us."

"Yes Lady Sona." I was grateful that Sona was concerned about my well being despite having no reason to be. "I will do my best to listen, but no promises."

"My my, Sona, you're quite caring about (Y/N) aren't you?" Akeno teased the short haired girl whilst poking her cheek, annoying Sona. "Here I thought you were just cold."

"Akeno, please stop poking the student council president." Tsubaki requested whilst pulling Akeno away from Sona. "She looks annoyed."

"It's fine, I'm in a good mood today." Sona was actually smiling a bit, how many times have I seen her smile in the past. "For once, someone actually thought my goal was worth fighting for."

"I wonder what that goal is." Due to my face rarely ever changing, it was easy for me to tell white lies, but I feel bad about telling full lies. "Whatever it may be, I'm sure it is a wonderful goal."

"(Y/N), what about my goal?" Rias was behind me and pulling my cheek, and while it didn't hurt, I did sense jealousy coming from her. "Surely you must think it's a good goal too."

"I have been trying to support you this entire time, Lady Rias." I bluntly pointed out, and this seems to be satisfying for Rias to hear, but she was still slightly jealous.

"I guess I'll see you all when we fight in the rating game." Sona then crossed her arms and began to leave with the rest of her peerage close behind. "So long (Y/N), I hope to see you again soon."

"I'll see you later Sona." I waved goodbye to her while Sirzechs walked towards me holding some envelopes.

"Hey (Y/N), you wouldn't happen to possess evil pieces would you?" Sirzechs, and I thought to myself for a moment before answering no. "Figures, sorry to bother you, but it appears multiple beings want to join your peerage once you get one, including some angels and demigods."

"Angels?" I asked as Sirzechs handed me all the envelopes. "Wait, These are from all over the world? America, Brazil, Canada, India, France? Why do these guys want to join my Peerage?"

"All of them said you were the key to change, and they want to help that change come into the world." Sirzechs explained, then I noticed a letter from someone I knew, Irina. "They didn't see you as a devil, they see you as someone who inspires Hope, Change, and Destiny. While you may not be able to add them to your peerage if you never get one, they're all for supporting you."

"Thank you Lord Sirzechs, I will respond to these letters as soon as I am able." I answered, and I even noticed a letter from Miach, the same guy who removed my immortality.

"Until then, I recommend training, we may need your unique skills." Sirzechs then walked off. "Out of every devil here, you're the only one who's taken on a modern style, and we may need it. One other thing, I think you did to all these people. Tell me, what do they all have in common."

"Not sure, I only know a couple of these guys." I commented, and Sirzechs laughed to himself.

"All of them are or once were people who have no power because of their blood, like yourself." Sirzechs explained. "All these people were never chosen by the gods, like yourself, they were overshadowed by the more impressive beings. They relate to you because your accomplishments always get overlooked by Issei's very presence. Yet somehow, someone like them managed to fight toe to toe with one of the most dangerous beings in the universe while the Red Dragon did close to nothing. You've given them hope that they don't need to be chosen by the gods to do great things, but rather, they just need to try. So keep doing what you're doing. Keep surprising people."

"I never planned on stopping."

(A/N: In case you're worried I'm gonna go overboard with OC's thanks to the last part, don't worry, they're not OC's, and I'm still debating whether or not the MC gets a peerage. If I do decide to give him his own peerage or something, it will involve characters from different cultures around the world, and not from different anime entirely. Like Pumpkin Jack, Puss in Boots, Anansi, Coyote. Also, folklore and fairytales do count as a culture in my book, just a different kind.
