(30) Studying Kind Of Sucks

Start from the beginning

Momo suggested that we study as a group, and it seemed like a pretty good idea. "Alright, let's do our best, everyone!"

"Yeah!!" I cheered with the rest of my class.

And so that's how it was. We made plans to study together at Momo's house the following weekend just as class ended and everyone dispersed for lunch.

During our break, I sat with Iida, Deku, Uraraka and Todoroki. Not very surprisingly, we found ourselves on the topic of the final exams.

"It's kind of daunting that we don't even know what the final practical exams are going to be like," Deku mentioned.

I remembered the number of times I'd had the privilege to watch the past UA students' complete their final exams in my spare time. As homeschool took more time out of my daily life as I grew older, I wasn't able to visit UA as often. A stark difference to how things were as a child, when I'd always wander around these familiar hallways with nothing else to do.

"Nothing too wild, I would think," Iida replied calmly, clasping his hands together before eating.

"We'll be able to get through it though!"

I smiled at Uraraka comment, and the boost of hope it gave me.

"I mean it differs from year to year and this year Dad said that it'd just be a review of everything we already know, right?" I recalled the brief explanation from earlier.

"Yeah, and we've done battle training as well as rescue training. We've covered most of the basics," The brunette replied to me.

All of a sudden a prominent *thwack* could be heard coming from Deku, and I turned to see he'd been elbowed in the head by another student.

"Ahh, I'm sorry, your head is so big I ended up hitting it."

"The kid from class B! Monoma, right?" Deku exclaimed, despite the situation.

The blonde guy, Monoma, just ignored the statement. "So I heard you lot ran into the Hero Killer? You've been basking in the spotlight ever since the sports festival, and that attention's only been multiplying! This isn't something you're grabbing out of expectation, you class just attracts trouble!"

I frowned a little at the seemingly ignorant statement, but I understood where he was coming from. "Monoma, right? Running into the Hero Killer was just bad luck, really. And I apologize if our class has been causing more trouble for you guys because of it, honestly."

He just stared down at me and seemed to be piecing together my intentions in his head, although I was just trying to stand up for my friends. Out of the blue though, and orange-haired girl stepped up beside him and gave him a good whack on the head, causing the guy to pass out.

"Is he alright?" I fretted over the blonde's limo body.

"That's not funny. Don't you know what happened to Iida?"

That was when I recalled her name, back from the sports festival. "Oh! You're Kendo, right?"

"Yeah, I am. Nice to finally meet you, Y/N! And I'm sorry about him, he has a bit of a... grudge against class 1A, as you can see."

I giggled slightly and stepped back. "I hope he's alright. Would you like me to heal him?"

"Nah, it's fine, really. He's used to it now. I think..." she trailed off with a nervous laugh, before addressing all of us.

"I heard you guys talking about the finals exams. Apparently they're going to make us fight robots, like in the entrance exam. One of the upperclassmen told me about it when I asked. That's kind of cheating but, heh..."

"That makes sense. Accumulating knowledge beforehand is probably part of it," Deku began mumbling his thoughts aloud, however at an incomprehensible pace.

"Kendo... why would you tell them that? This was our chance to one-up the detestable class 1A..." Monoma moaned, pulling himself back into consciousness.

'Aw, does he really hate us that much?' I really didn't want any bad blood between our classes, so I made an attempt to reach out.

"Hey, Monoma, would you like to train with me sometime? I know you probably don't like our class very much but... we could get to know each other better, maybe? Oh, and Kendo! It'd be great if you came too!"

Kendo smiled at me and replied, "Of course, Y/N. Don't believe what this idiot tells you though, we don't hate your class."

I felt partially relieved, but glanced back over at him, tilting my head in a questioning gesture. Although he was hanging from Kendo's grip, he looked away from me as he answered, "F-Fine... only to prove that class B can be better than one of the strongest is class A, of course."

Well, it was something. I smiled at them both, worry nagging at the back of my head for the male as they walked away. Or rather, worried because of the fact Kendo was dragging him away with her.

Soon enough we were back in class, but Dad hadn't arrived yet so we were all chatting about. I can only assume it was on impulse, but Bakugou decided to make a sudden declaration.

"Deku! Dunno if you've finally been able to learn how to use a quirk, but you're getting on my last nerves, you sh*t."

"Wait a second, is Bakugou talking about how Deku's moves kind of looked like his?" Uraraka mentioned.

"Oh yeah, that must be it," Mina nodded along.

"I'm not going to let what happened at the sports festival happen again. Next term we're going to see just how better I am than you, got that?! I'll annihilate you and leave you in the dust. Then I'll f*cking murder you!"

Then he turned around to face Todoroki. "And you too, Todoroki, you *sshole!"

Then finally, he looked forwards again and beckoned at me. "And you. I'll get stronger, and I'll beat you. Just you wait and see."

And with that display, he sauntered out into the hallway. I was grateful he decided not to, well, call me anything less than pleasant, but felt bad for Todo-kun and Deku.

Other than that, though, the day was relatively normal. At least, for us it was.

Eventually came the weekend before the exam, and we met up at Momo's house to study as planned. She and I mostly helped some of the others with their work, which I found to be a efficient form of reviewing my own knowledge, easing my stress.

I think they would all do fine. We were UA's hero course, after all.
