Double Trouble

"Welcome Back"

“Lexi?” 

“What?”

“Get up.”

“Why?”

“Rebecca called.”

I sat up immediately, “Is everything ok?”

“Not so much.”

I looked at John, worry in my eyes.

After the nurse told Rebecca that Austin needed a spinal tap, we had to leave because both Amberley and Bryce were getting really tired and starting to fuss.

“What’s wrong with him?” I asked.

“She said that he has something called bacterial meningitis.”

“Meningitis? That’s horrible! Do you have any idea how serious that is? He could die!”

John looked at me with a blank stare. 

“We need to go to the hospital. Rebecca probably needs support. She’s probably freaking out so much right now. O my gosh, John. Where’s my purse? And my wallet. Go get your keys. I’ll-”

He stopped me, “Lexi, stop. Calm down. Take a deep breath.”

I breathed in, “Ok, you’re right. I’m the calm one. I just need to slow down and stop worrying. He’ll be ok.”

“Exactly.”

“Ok, now, I’m going to go ask my mom if she can take care of the twins for a while and you can go start the car.”

John smiled, “Now that’s the Lexi I know.”

I walked down to the kitchen where my mom was.

“Mom?”

“Yes Lexi?”

“Are you busy today?”

“Yes, in fact, I am.”

“Oh,” I said, disappointed.

“I’m busy watching the twins for you. John told me what’s going on with Rebecca. She needs your support right now and you don’t need the twins bothering you. So, go to the hospital and stay for as long as Rebecca needs you.”

I hugged my mom, “Thank you so much mom, you’re the best.”

“You’re welcome honey.”
