Jo's POV

"Forget it," Jess says.

"Why? What was wrong with that one?" Luke asks.

"It was pink."

"We can paint it."

"Please do," I tell him.

"You mean I can paint it," Jess replies.

"We can paint it together," Luke says.

"Great. Then we can hold hands and skip afterwards," Jess replies.

"Fine. Which one do you like?"

"The one before."

"The one with the two fridges?"

"No."

"Well, the one before was the one with two fridges," Luke replies.

"No, the one we saw before was the one with the cat."

"I hate cats."

"I'm allergic to cats," I add.

"Well, I don't think the cat came with the place."

"Yeah, but it had carpeting which means it's always gonna smell like a cat."

"Clean the carpets."

"Paint the pink."

"Fine. The one next to the bank."

"Too many windows."

"Agreed," I tell him.

"What?" Jess asks.

"Six windows all on one side, 3:00 in the afternoon, we're sitting in an oven."

"So we get curtains."

"Well, you'll have to help me put them up."

"Great. Then we can hold hands and skip afterwards," Jess says again.

"Stop saying that," Luke tells him

"Stop saying that," Luke tells him.

"You know what? I don't care. Pick whichever one you want."

"I'm not picking by myself."

"You're the one that wants to move."

"Oh, so you like living the way we do?"

"No, pick the pink," tell him.

"Fine by me," Jess says, ignoring me.

"No space, no privacy," Luke adds.

"I got plenty of privacy," Jess replies.

"Yeah because I'm sitting downstairs in the dark watching a two inch, while Jo reads."

"Hey, you're the one with the problem. You make the choice."

"Jess, come on."

"I have to go."

"We got three more places to look at."

"I'm supposed to be at Lorelai's in 20 minutes, remember?"

"Oh, yeah."

"I mean if you want me to bail on her, fine."

"No, you go. Jo and I'll look at the places."

"Great idea."

"I'll take polaroids and you can take a look at them later."

"Take a polaroid, paint a picture, whatever you want."

"Jess, come on."

"Hey, nobody asked me if I wanted to move to Stars Hollow, but  I'm here. Pick whatever place you want, and I'll be there too."

After Jess is down the street I look back at Luke.

"We really can't just leave him?"

--

Luke and I look at the other apartments and then he lets me run off to go to the book fundraiser. I get there just as Rory is  leaving with Dean trailing behind her with her stacks of books.

"Did you leave any good ones?" I ask her.

"I think there are still a few you can grab," she says with a smile.

Before he can make it to us she leans in close to.

"Have you seen my bracelet? The one Dean gave me."

What do I say? I look at her, glance at Dean and then back at her. Lie, you lie.

"No, I'm sorry, but I'll keep a lookout," I tell her, giving her a reassuring smile.

"Thank you," she replies.

I look at Dean.

"You better protect those with your life or she might hurt you," I joke.

"I believe it," he replies, smiling.

I have to get that bracelet, and kill Jess.

--

When I get back to the diner I get to work because we are kind of busy and Luke is still gone. He comes in and I can clearly tell he's mad.

"Luke what's going on?" He ignores me.

He heads upstairs and I follow close behind. We get into the apartment and Jess' music is blasting again. Luke goes into the closet and Jess and I watch him pull out a sledge hammer.

Jess jumps up from his bed and we follow Luke to the other end of the room. He takes the sledge hammer and smashes a hole in the wall.

Jess flinches back and I hide behind him. Luke turns to us. We look at him like he's crazy.

"That's your room," he says.

He hands the sledge hammer to Jess.

"Finish up. We'll hold hands and skip afterwards," Luke says and then pats him on the shoulder.

Luke walks off, slamming the door as he leaves, causing more debiee to fall from the hole.

"You think you would have been less of a pain knowing he was keeping that in the closet?" I ask Jess.

He just stares at me, still shocked.

"Make sure you hide the hammer when you're done, or he might use it on you next," I tell him before leaving.
