The walk home was awkward. Neither of us had anything to say. Once we got home I took my shoes off and disappeared off up stairs. I saw my phone on my bed side table. So that's where it was I thought to myself. I unlocked it to see that my friend Tabby had messaged me three times, reading:

Hey what you up to today??

and: you there?? answer your phone!!

and finally: look, if you read this, are you up for a walk in the park???

The last one was sent 5 minutes ago. What should I say. Oh, hey Tabs, soz just been told my mum has cancer and I'm going to end up in a foster home. so yeah course I'm 'up for a walk in the park.' I wish life was a walk in the park. Obviously I'm a subtle friend so all I said was

Me: Sorry, not today, maybe another time. I've got a lot on my mind. A x.

Tabby: Of course, Is there anything I can help with?xx. Me: No it's okay bye xx. I put the phone down and walked downstairs to spend time with my Mum.

"Hi mum," I sang.

"Hiya Ana, you good?"

"Yeah I'm fine, is there anything to eat?"

"Do you want me to make you a sandwich?"

"No, it's alright, I'll do it, Do you want one?"

"Yeah if you don't mind.."

"It's the least I can do." I said with a smile. "Mum?"

"Yes sweety?" she said in a high pitched motherly tone.

"Are.. are you in pain?" I stuttered

"Well, it's cancer. It doesn't hurt as such, but I can feel it draining me away, like a cat with milk, even though their not supposed to have it!"

"That reminds me, whats going to happen with the cats?" If she says we're giving them away, I will actually cry!

"Next door are getting them." Are you shitting me. With that I half nodded and walked upstairs.
