The red string of fate. People tend to believe that it's nothing but a myth. But in today's world, everyone has a red string tied around their pinky and only appears when they meet their soulmate. The touching stories and documentaries made on the red string of fate, only made everyone excited to meet their own soulmate. Everyone, except M/n.

In a family with history of having social anxiety, it was no surprise when M/n's parents were told their son was selectively mute. From his early childhood of never speaking and being more anxious than others, M/n's parents couldn't help but blame themselves hearing that their son had selective mutism.

Now in high school, M/n was able to only look at the bright side and earn a surprisngly peaceful high school life. His best friend, Seonghwa, was the only person outside of his family, M/n was able to talk to and Seonghwa liked to think of that as a sign that no one was worthy of hearing M/n speak other than himself.

"M/n, hurry and get ready. Seonghwa should be here soon to pick you up." M/n's mother spoke from the ktichen while she continued to cook breakfast for the family.

The faint sound of the door opening then closing, was the sound of confirmation that M/n didn't oversleep and didn't have to rush to leave the house. When he saw the extra plate of breakfast at the table, M/n immediately sighed and unlocked the main door for his best friend.

On certain days, Seonghwa loved to sit down with M/n's family and eat breakfast. M/n's mother found nothing wrong with that since he was already going out of his way and taking M/n to school, so she thought it was a nice way for her to pay the high schooler back. M/n, on the other hand, could say that he was growing tired of hearing Seonghwa rave about how good of a chef his mother is whenever they leave for school.

"Hello, Mrs. Seo." The familar voice and a chuckle following his words, made M/n look up from his plate to see his best friend hopping over to the seat next to him.

"You're here really early." M/n spoke, his head slightly tilted out of confusion. Usually, Seonghwa would arrive just at the knick of time and take his breakfast to go.

Nodding his head, Seonghwa eagerly sat down and took his right hand out of his pocket. Furrowing his eyebrows, M/n blinked a couple of times before paying more attention to Seonghwa's pinky and seeing the red string secruely tied around his finger.

"Y-You met your soulmate!" M/n cheered as Seonghwa nodded once again and pulled his phone out.

"Yes! I met him when I was about to leave for work and he needed help grabbing something from the top shelf. Look at how cute he is! M/n, I'm head over heels for my soulmate." Seonghwa ranted with nothing but hearts in eyes. M/n's mother who was doing the dishes, couldn't help but smile. She loved hearing how happy Seonghwa was about meeting his soulmate.
