Chapter 34: Forage

Start from the beginning

"C'mere and climb on top," he growled. She moved closer to where he was, listening to his command. Once closer, her chest was pressed up against his own arousing him immediately. She let go of his penis after guiding it inside of her as they both slowed to the sound of the music playing in the background. After a few minutes of Sage riding him, he picked her up and continued the slow pace thrusts.

She gripped his wet back as much as possible but he did most of the work holding her up and maintaining the movement. After another round later, the two climbed out of the tub and drained it. "I love you, baby," Dave whispered and kissed her lips once more before wrapping her silk robe around her. She reached up before he could turn away and kissed him. "I love you more."

"Impossible. Don't be lying like that," he said swiping his thumb across her lips. They were pink and swollen after all the kissing and biting they did, which he loves when they're like that the most. "You gon' be my wife one day."

"At this point, I'm already your wife," she stated softly, staring into his eyes.

"You right." He swept her off her feet, carrying her bridal style and carefully placing her on their king sized bed. "I'mma put a ring on it one day, just you wait."

"Come here," Sage ordered, reaching her arms up. The robe slipped open and exposed her damp chest.

Dave bent down and snuggled her neck. "Whatchu want from me?"

"Just you. I need to feel you hugging me." Her words were like a blanket over his body on a cold night, the feeling of being needed and being in that position to provide in a physical sense felt good. Their love for each other was so deep that all she needed from him was a hug.

The duo crawled further into the bed, covering more space by the headboard. The oil was placed on the nightstand so Dave wasted no time grabbing it and pressing Sage on to the bed. She connected the dots as she watched him squirt some oil on to his hands and peek at her from under his long lashes. She took in his caramel colored skin and the way his muscles flexed every time he moved. "Whatchu starin' at, mama?"

"You," she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his, "you so fine that's why." Normally Dave was the one dishing out compliments but he didn't mind his girl reversing the roles. He flashed her a side grin, taking his hands and rubbing it across her baby bump.

"What we naming the little one?" He asked her. Sage chewed on her lips indicating she was deep in thought. She hasn't thought that much about the baby, almost like she was avoiding the very obvious fact of life she was responsible for. Meanwhile, Dave was ready for the baby to just come out already. He was ready to care for him or her in any way he had to and love someone unconditionally like he did Sage. They didn't prepare materistically but that was the least of their problems. They only had about a handful of months to heal and focus on their future before the little one emerged into the world.

"I'm not good with names..." She whispered. A light breeze made its way into their room which she needed as the room was way too warm. Dave pushed the sleeve of his robe up and smoothed his hand over her bump again. "Can I be honest?"

     "That's all I want."

"I'm scared...it's a different scared...I-I don't know but I'm not ready for this." That was the most honest Sage has been about the baby in a long time. Most times a mother or mother to be is expected to just tough it out and reach within themselves for their mother instinct. It just didn't work like that for her though, which worried her. What if I was meant to abort it? A raw question that she didn't seem to know the answer to. Hell, she didn't have answers ever and that's where she believed she went wrong each time. Now she was searching for them all the time in any situation presented to her trying to go by fate.

"Why don't you ever come to me?" Even though the question he proposed was rhetorical, his sentiments were serious and he wanted her to stop withholding how she felt for the sake of whatever it was. He took her hands into his own oily ones and squeezed them gently. "I'm your protector...in and out... just talk to me."

"It's not that easy...and y-you know that--" her sobs interrupted anything that she was going to say and Dave easily gathered her into his arms.

"No one's saying it's gonna be easy, it's just better we start being open," His lips travelled over her head and he easily tightened his grip around her. "No one said it was gonna be easy baby..."

"Finally the birthday girl is here!" Aubrey snickered, bringing a glass to his lips. The cool margarita went down his throat, adding to his drunkenness. Ella popped his head playfully before rushing her best friend, approaching her seat at the table.

Dave stood up and took in Sage's appearance, she was clad in a loose fitting dress and her hair fell down her back in big waves. He appreciated the sight in front of him and immediately kissed her.

"Ah get a room!" Ella joked. She took a blueberry from one of the fruit salads and tossed it at the couple, causing Aubrey to burst out into a fit of laughter. Dave and Sage pulled away and shook their head at the immaturity from their closest friends.

The staff serving the food turned on a caribbean playlist blasting some new dancehall tracks as the four of them drank (non-alcoholic for Sage), stuffed their faces and talked. Everyone was emitting good vibes and enjoying the company of one another. Before they knew it, a few hours passed by and Aubrey nudged Dave while the girls got up to dance with each other. "Present time?"

Dave knew his best friend was drunk so he wasn't really able to keep the secret he had for Sage much longer. "Aight, you guys give your gifts first then."

"No problem, gangsta," He took his drink and clinked it to Dave's. Dave knew he was finally tipsy since his fourth cup was almost drained at this point. He wanted to forget the gift and just undress Sage so he can make love to her all night.

Before he could even call her to start the gift giving process, he caught sight of her dancing and laughing with Ella. She looked gorgeous, her hair was messy from all the movement and the natural heat seeping through the cracked windows. The smile she was flashing was the most authentic he's seen from her in a very long time. He was so happy to see his girlfriend and mother of their child in a more positive place, emotionally. After the couple presented Sage with several gifts including some sentimental pieces from Ella specifically, it was Dave's turn.

David picked up the Tiffany bag he had placed underneath the table before the dinner even began and positioned it on the table. Sage eyes widened at the bag and knew it was jewelry, he loved gifting her that. "Aw baby, you already got me this beautiful trip."

"Now you know that don't matter," he snaked his arm around her waist and peppered wet kisses down the line of her neck. Sage sank into his hold as the kisses were being planted and the smell of alcohol and cologne traveled into her nose. "I wanna make you feel good so lemme give you this real quick." David's words were slurred and his balance wasn't the best, making it clear how drunk he was. She figured she was just as tired as he was drunk because all she could think of was crawling into bed with him.

Dave pulled back, dropping his arm from around her and reached into the bag. It was a Tiffany box, but inside of it was a 2.01 carat pear shaped halo ring in 14k white gold. "This is our promise to each other," taking her left hand into his, he slid the ring on her finger.

Sage's heart was grinning from ear to ear as she wrapped her arms around his waist. Dave accepted her, the liquor on his breath tickling her nose. He wasn't just accepting the hug but the eternal love they just assured each other.
