His gang only really stayed with him at first because of their loyalty to Dayia. They saw Mondo as weaker and as a fag. This is the reason Mondo has so much internalized homophobia and self hatred. Later on the gang did learn to respect him, not just fear him. The trauma from being called less of a man and less of a human from the people he cares most about still haunts him though.
