"That would be $400," I said.

The man gave me his card, and after he paid, they left. It's my first day, and it's already hectic. I thought this would be easy, but I was wrong. Thanks to Irina, the red-haired woman who taught me everything on my first day here.

We have a lot of customers now, and it's weird, or maybe it's just me. I can feel the thick atmosphere. My heart is beating strongly. As I scan the room, I feel a strong gaze on me. Looking around, I stopped as I saw a pair of emerald eyes in the corner. He's with the same man he brought the first day I came.

He's staring intensely. Not bothering the man discussing something with him, but then, the man noticed it. He turned around to look where his friend was looking. I abruptly averted my eyes from them and looked anywhere else.

When I looked at them again, the man was already walking towards me. My heart starts pounding, a mix of nervousness and excitement.

"So, you're working here. Why is that? Of all the restaurants in San Francisco, why here? Why the hell in my restaurant?" He said.

"I did not know that this is yours," I replied slowly, looking down.

"Are you sure that you don't know me?"

I shook my head.

"Look at me," he said firmly.

I looked at him, trying not to break down. His gaze was dark and intense.

"Who are you exactly, Jaime Johnson? Or should I say, Jaime Carter?"

My eyes went wide. He knows my real name. Maybe he did an investigation. Yeah, he did. But why?

"You did an investigation about me? Why did you do that?" I questioned him.

He smirked. "You are my employee, and as the boss, I should know about my employees. Why are you using another name? Are you planning something? You are from Sicily. How are you related to Antonio Carter?" He stared at me attentively.

When he mentioned that name, all my memories from the past came back – blood, gunshots, fights, torture, and many more. My hands trembled under the counter. I felt tears rolling down my cheeks.

No. He will not find me here. I'm safe here.

My mouth opened to say something, but I closed it again.

"Come on, Jaime. How are you related to Antonio?" He cocked his head, studying my face.

He knows my brother. What if he is one of my brother's allies? And he already called him to inform him that I'm here. Oh my gosh.

This can't be. I need to leave here as soon as possible.

I looked away and tried to leave the counter, but as soon as I came near the door, the man was already in the doorway.

"Where are you going? You're not answering my question yet. And based on your actions, you know him. So, tell me, Jaime. Because if you don't answer, you're not gonna like the consequences."

"I-I don't know him," I stuttered.

He narrowed his eyes and grabbed my wrist firmly. I winced in pain.

"I hate liars. Tell me now before I shoot you ten times in your head."

I gritted my teeth to cope with the pain as he held me even more tightly.

"Please, Mr., let me go. You're hurting me." And I didn't stop my tears from rolling down. I thought I would find peace here, but no.

"You're starting to piss me off, Jaime. Answer me." He groaned.

I shook my head. "I don't know him."

"Then you will get my punishment."

After he said that, he pulled me out of the counter, and with a loud thud, slammed the door. Customers turned their heads in confusion and concern. We made our way outside, and he dragged me to the car, forcing me to hop in. After making sure I was settled, he hopped in, and the car drove off.

I'm scared now. I don't know these two men, and I don't know where we're going.

"Please let me go."

"Then answer the question."

"If I tell you, will you let me go?"

He stared at me. "I'll think about that."

I frowned. "He is my brother."

"Then why did you say that you don't know him? Care to explain that."

"I-I can't."

"Then why are you here in San Francisco? Working on my property. Your father is the owner of EMC and one of the billionaires in Italy."

"You don't understand."

Suddenly, the car stopped. I saw a huge mansion. I looked at him, and he smirked. He dragged me out of the car and stood in front of the mansion.

"You live here?" I asked.

"What do you think?"

This is not good.

"Welcome, princess."
