A week later was the big soccer game. The coach was going through game plans when I spotted Gabe amongst the crowd. Great. Now I had a distraction. A cute distraction. The game went off without a hitch. I scored once and was beaming with pride when I noticed Paris and her friend Ava in the crowd. They were cheering for their friends Tilli and Kelly. Paris made eye contact with me and gave me a sad smile. I knew we were thinking the same thing. The days where Paris, Emery, and Kristin would come watch my games. I waved but her attention was already back on Tilli and Kelly. The game ended with my team winning 2-1. I wanted to be happy about it, but for some reason, I wasn't. Seeing my former best friend cheering for anybody besides me stung. We celebrated at the ice cream parlour near our school. I ordered my favourite flavour of cookie dough. I noticed Paris did too. "The Berries" all loved cookie dough. I smiled and walked back to my friends.
