Beyond the gates

"Did you think you could hide from me forever?"

I clenched my eyes shut as hard as I could. I couldn't let him see me cry.

"Living in that village has made you weak. Don't worry though. I have plans to change that."

I felt something prick my arm and my eyes flew open.

"No please," quickly my vision started to blur. This was the same thing he did to me before my first procedure.

What was he going to do with me now?

"PLEASE. NO!"

I shot up in my bed; sweating profusely.
My vision was still a bit out of focus; so I didn't notice Kakashi sitting on the bed in front of me.

He touched my arm and I instantly knocked his hand away. Breathing heavily; I started to panic. "Not again please!"

"(Y/n)! It's just me!," he grabbed my face and held me still.

His scent immediately soothed me.

I started taking steadier breaths, "Kashi?"

My eyes focused on him and he sighed, "Are you okay?"

I nodded my head, "I'm sorry for waking you."

"Darlin'.. you yelled loud enough for me to hear it from your spare room. Talk to me."

I sighed, "It wasn't my usual nightmare Kashi. My normal ones are just from bad things in my past. This one? I've never experienced it; but it felt real."

"What happened?"

"I was back with Orochimaru; he was putting me under for another procedure."

I moved both of my hands to tangle in my hair, "What more can he do to me Kashi?"

I felt tears well up in my eyes and two arms wrapped around me.

"I won't let him take you back darlin'."

Kakashi just laid back on my bed and held me in his arms; rubbing my head until we both fell asleep.

When I woke up again; I jumped up for a different reason. We were gonna be late to see Tsundae. I knew she wasn't going to be happy.

I pushed Kakashi out of the bed and he groaned as he hit the ground.

"I'm so sorry Kashi; I didn't know how else to get you up quickly. We're late!"

I jumped up and started getting ready;
when I was done I realized,

Kakashi had went back to sleep on my floor.

I shook my head and bent down to nudge him awake. Before I could touch him; he pulled me into his arms and kissed my forehead.

"I'm getting up."

I could see him peak at me with his usual uncovered eye.
I grazed my lips against his, "good,"
I stood up and started walking out of my room, "I'll wait for you outside."

Before I could step through my bedroom door; I was pulled back into his arms and I felt his lips crash against mine.

Before it could get too heated; he pulled away and smiled, "Let me take you on a date."

I smiled back at him, "When?"

"Well if we don't have a mission; how about tonight? And if we do; whenever we get back?"

I smiled and nodded, "sounds good to me. Now let's go; Tsundae's going to kill us!"

When we arrived, everyone was waiting on us  impatiently.

Tsundae and Jiraiya looked amused more than anything for some reason.

Then I realized how this looked; Kakashi and I showing up late together..
I rubbed my temple, great. Just great.

"Sorry were late lady-," Tsundae interrupted Kakashi.

"Save it; you guys have a new mission. I want you to leave as soon as possible. You're going to be delivering-," I couldn't help but zone out. I wasn't expecting the next mission to be so soon. I knew I had to go on this one.

I was scared.

"You can go now," Tsundae dismissed us and we all walked out deciding to meet back up at the gate in 30 minutes.

I ended up at the gate before anyone. I was so wrapped up in the thought of leaving that I didn't even think to stop by Kakashi's to make sure he wasn't late.

What if he's out there waiting? What if he sends Kaito after you? You'll be fine, but what about Kakashi? Naruto? Sasuke and Sakura?

What if one of them gets hurt because of you, my heart started thudding hard against my chest.

I clutched at my chest and a hand touched my shoulder.

"Are you okay darlin'?"

I dropped my hand and threw myself into his arms, "I'm just worried Kashi."

He rubbed my back, "Don't worry; none of us will let him take you back."

Honestly. I wasn't worried about that anymore, I just didn't want them to get hurt because of me.

I pulled back and looked into Kakashi's uncovered eye, "Promise me if I tell you to run. You run."

"(Y/n)-"

I cut him off, "no. Promise me Kakashi. I can hold my own against whatever Orochimaru throws at us. You and the kids are more vulnerable. So please. Promise me you'll listen to me."

His brow furrowed, "Fine. But only if you'll run with us."

I touched his cheek, "If I can I will.
Also; while we're out there. I want to pretend that we're not as close as we really are."

He raised his eyebrow this time, "why?"

I dropped my hand and gave him a sad smile, "I can't lose you like I did Riku."

He looked around to make sure no one was nearby; and he pulled down his mask.

I'd probably never get used to seeing his face.

He pulled me against him and gently placed his lips against mine.

I expected a quick kiss; but he deepened the kiss and I could feel my knees go weak.
   He kept one arm around my waist and moved his free hand to the side of my face. I wrapped my arms around his neck and moved my hands to tangle in his hair. Those few minutes didn't last long enough for me.

He pulled just an inch away from my lips, "I can't wait for our date when we get back."

I smiled and pulled his mask back up. Before i could respond; I realized, Sakura was standing behind us.

We both looked at her and then looked back at each other.

Kakashi shrugged and I smiled before I brought my finger to my lips and winked at her.

Sasuke and Naruto walked up soon after.
Both looking at each of us that were already there.

"What's wrong with her?," Naruto circled a still shocked looking Sakura.

I laughed, "She can't believe that Kakashi sensei made it here before she did."

They both shrugged and spoke in unison, "understandable."

The gate began to open and I took a deep breath.
