A few days passed and the end of the week was quickly approaching. Instead of going to work on  Friday to help Tara, today was finally the day for my hair appointment!

I woke up early as normal and got ready. I was awake and leaving so early that I wasn't even taking Jase to school today. I got changed into my black jeans a black cami top and black sneakers. I took a denim jacket just in case and placed my sunglasses in my handbag. My hair was freshly washed and blow dried from last night and I tied it  up into a bun and threw everything else I needed into my handbag.

I closed my bedroom door behind me and headed for the main door, I'd get breakfast on the way.

"You out early today mija?" Uncle Fernando caught me as I headed to the exit. He was dressed in his work attire, I guess he was going into the office today.

"Yes uncle, I'm going to get my hair done." I responded.

"Need any money?" He asked and I smiled.

"No Papa, I'm good." I said and I hugged him. I knew knowing my Uncle, he would send me something anyway.

Steve pulled up my car from the parked garage and I hopped in. I typed in the GPS for my location and put on the radio to my gospel playlist. I bopped to some tunes and made my way to South London.

About 45 minutes later I pulled up to my old neighbourhood which was the only place I trusted to get my hair done.

I hadn't been here in a few years and I can't lie it looked pretty much the same. I parked my range in a box across the street and hopped out and made my way to my friends hair salon.

"Morning girl, you real early today!" One of my primary school friends Kelly said as she swept the outside of the salon.

"Girl, I'm tryna get my hair done ASAP before the queue piled in." I smiled. I pulled her in for a hug. Kelly was the type of friend, we didn't see each other, we didn't even speak often but she when we did we always caught up.

"I knew when your big head called me you wanted something." She teased as she opened the shop door.

"So I couldn't just catch up with a friend?" I challenged and helped her to open the curtains and straighten the chair.

"No boo, I know you." She said and we both laughed.

"How's the business anyway?" I asked. I took a seat at the far end chair. The salon was small but cute. With a pink and white theme and three chairs and mirrors and a sofa at the back, Kelly had done well for herself.

"It's good, I wasn't sure for a minute if I'd be able to keep up especially because I didn't go to uni or anything and went straight into the business but I can't lie its paid off." She said and I nodded. She put a towel round my neck and undid my bun. "Your hair has grown, what you been putting in it?" She ran her fingers through it.

"That shea butter straight from Ghana." I smirked and she laughed.

"Okay you ready? This will take a few hours." She said and I nodded. She parted from the back and started. We chatted for the next few hours and more and more people came into the shop. She had another helper and a few more customers came in who had appointments. I had made mine for 8:30 and although the shop opened at 9am, by the time I had come in we were well on our way.

"So what is it like? Living in another country?" She asked me.  We were about half way now.

"Its cute you know. I can't lie I think life works in seasons and the season I was in I just really needed to get out you know? I loved studying French and being there and it's nice to experience another culture." I smiled.
