Director: Hayao Miyazaki

Studio: Ghibli

Genre: Fantasy

Synopsis:

A magical fish princess wishes to see the surface. When she had her chance, she meets Sousuke, a human boy who named her "Ponyo". Ponyo was sent back to the sea after her disappearance alarmed her father. She demands her father to turn her into a human being to be together with Sousuke, but her father strongly refused. While attempting to escape again, Ponyo succesfully transforms into a human but has brought danger to the surface when she spilled her father's elixirs which endangers Sousuke's village.

Review:

This is some twisted child-friendly version of 'The Little Mermaid'. Same sea-creature-wants-to-be-land-creature-to-be-with-beloved-human plot except Ponyo brought upon a calamity to Sousuke's village without even taking responsibility for it. Thankfully, Granmamare was kind of enough to clean after her mess. Long story short, I don't really approve of Ponyo's character but the story won't take place without her and it's just sad, kids just make mistakes from time-to-time but Ponyo's mistake was a national-level threat.

My hate for the main character aside, the animation is undeniably cute and appealing to the eyes. Good color scheme and screenshot-worthy sceneries.

Favorite character/s:

Sousuke. Adorable child, I like him because he's not annoying and whiny. He's also pretty smart for a toddler. If I had a son, I wish he would be as adorable as Sousuke.
