Life with the Doctor was everything but mundane. It was exciting, terrifying, heart breaking, but never mundane. You and the Doctor had built a relationship on mutual near death experiences and a calling to save the universe. Where he went, you followed. Where you went, he followed. It was balanced and equal, held together by an indescribable feeling of adoration for each other. Sounds perfect right? It was. However, that didn't stop the nagging voice in your head telling you this was all temporary. He could leave in the TARDIS any day and find a new companion. You weren't the first by all means but you wished with everything you had that you were the last. Were you good enough for him? You didn't feel special outside of his presence, you didn't feel important.

All of these dark thoughts and were racing through your brain as you stared at yourself in the bathroom mirror. You stared so intensely; you were sure you could've cracked it. You wished you could look in the mirror and love the person staring back but you couldn't. All you could do was point out your flaws and cry as you insulted yourself with your thoughts.

"Y/N, you in here? The TARDIS is all charged up, where do you wa-. Y/N? What's wrong?" the Doctor stopped dead in his tracks when he saw you furiously wiping away tears in an effort to hide your breakdown from him.

"Nothing, I'm fine. Where are we going?" you faked smiled as you tried to leave the bathroom. The Doctor grabbed you by the arm as you tried to push past him. He lifted your head up gently with his finger. He looked you dead in the eyes as another tear escaped your already bloodshot eyes.

"Do you love me?" you whispered, almost inaudible.

"Of course I do. I don't think you understand quite how much I actually do sometimes"

You faced away from him and went back to staring at yourself in the mirror, sighing. The Doctor came up behind you and wrapped his arms around you, resting his chin on your head.

"I just, don't love myself sometimes" you mumble.

"If you ever feel like you don't love yourself, remember, I love you with every cell in my body and when those ones die and new ones are born, those cells love you even more. I love everything about you, from the freckles in constellations on your cheeks to the birthmark on you left ankle" the Doctor whispered in between kissing up your shoulder to your cheek and up to your forehead.

You were amazed by his words. He never outright confessed his love for you. Yes, he was affectionate, and you knew he loved you, like he knew you loved him, but you weren't the type of couple to shout your love from the rooftops. He knew you needed to hear just how much you were loved; just how important and wanted you were.

"You won't feel like that forever Doctor. What if your next regeneration doesn't love me like you do? What if he realises just how much of a waste of space I am" even with all of the feelings the Doctor was projecting onto you, you still couldn't accept that someone as amazing as him could love someone like you.

"That could never happen. My personality may change, and my face may change but my feelings never will; they never have before. I think you're just afraid to be happy. I don't want you to ever doubt for a minute that the only place I want to be is by your side"

You nod slowly. You still didn't fully believe him, but you were willing to try.

"I love you too, you know. I love you with everything I have and everything I ever will have. I don't have the gift of words like you do but I do love you as fiercely as you love me" you said, turning around to face the Doctor, snaking your arms around his neck smiling slightly.

"There you are, my Y/N. That smile, those words. Wow, you really make it hard for me to form sentences when you look at me like that" he chuckled, leaning in and capturing your lips with his. He gently lifted you up, so you were sat on the sink and stood in between your legs. Your hands ran through his hair lightly tugging on it and feeling him smile against your lips. You had kissed many times before and they were all amazing, but this kiss confirmed your decision to try to love yourself.

It was going to be tough but as long as you had the Doctor by your side, you could do it.
