Andy never knew about Morrics, sort of like you, up until a couple weeks ago. He woke up one-
night panicking about leaving his rake down by his sandcastle. His mother let him go out quickly
and see if it was still on the beach. As he sprinted back to where he built his sandcastle, a rock
grew in the pit of his stomach. Not literally, but figuratively. You know like when you lose your
favorite toy, or when you forget about doing your homework right before bedtime and your
stomach aches? How could he leave his number one item in the sand! As he approached, he
could hear the sound of crunching and squeaking. He thought there must be a bird or squirrel
running around - or worse a bat. Creepy creatures, bats. But all thoughts of squirrels, birds, and
bats faded when he found what was left of his sandcastle. Dark sleek creatures were swirling
around the mound chattering lightly. He couldn't quite make them out but they reflected the
moon perfectly. Andy was crouched in a position that was most uncomfortable and when he
leaned to his left a noisy twig snapped under his flip flops. All at once the creatures turned and
looked toward his direction. Terrified, Andy froze. The next thing Andy claims to have seen were
big orange eyes with flakes of gold and silver weaved around a pale blue pupil. The eyes
themselves were knitted close together and slightly uneven. Andy was able to see four uneven
pairs of eyes before sand was flung at his face and chest. Luckily no sand invaded his eyes; the
Morrics are not cruel and they know never to throw sand in people's (or even other creatures)
eyeballs. They don't grow back you know!
Andy ran. Okay. That was an understatement. Andy ran really, really, and one more time, really
fast back home. He ran so fast that he even forgot the rake! He told his parents everything, but
since Andy had quite the vivid imagination, his parents told him that it was a nice story and he
should try drawing what he saw. Andy was furious on the inside, but tried to make his parents
believe him; it didn't work. The next day Andy went back to the spot where his sandcastle had
been, and all that was left standing straight up in the air was his number one item. The rake.
