Chapter 22: I regret it.

Start from the beginning

I pressed my eyes closed and spit out my answer as quickly as possible.
"He just told me how you two are neutral between Cane and Taren and that your name is Lucas not Thomas. That's it. That's all he said."

I heard him let out a breath and his grip softened. "Okay.. I'm sorry if I hurt you."

"His name is Gavin? He wouldn't tell me."

Lucas nodded as he rubbed his eyes
"He's very guarded. He doesn't want people knowing our identities. It's how we stay out of harm's way."

"So... if he doesn't want people knowing who you are, why would he tell me your real name? If it is your real name.."

"Because he's a petty son of a chicken who won't hold a grudge against anyone but his own brother."

"What?"

"He's mad at me for gaining your trust."

"Well you certainly did a good job of losing it... Thomas" I snarked

"I'm sorry, Alice. I truly am.. but at the time I couldn't risk you knowing who I was.. Just a precaution."

"So are there any other secrets you've held from me that I should know about?" I asked the question lightly as a joke, but I got nervous when I saw him stiffen. "Tho- Lucas?"

"Hm? It's nothing."

"No, it's not nothing. Otherwise you would've reacted different. What aren't you telling me?"

"It's nothing that you need to know right now."

Not again..
"Just like I didn't need to know your name?"

"Alice, trust me, you don't want to know yet. Please, don't make me tell you."
His stare was heavy and my insides wanted to crumble beneath him.

"What happened that I don't know about? Tell me Thomas!"
I matched his gaze. Neither of us was about to concede and I felt the pressure build between us.

In a split second he had grabbed me by the back of my neck and yanked my head forward. My heart was beating it's way out of my chest and a tidal wave of adrenaline crashed in my stomach. We were just inches apart now, lips barely separated from the other's as our breath mingled. The heat radiating from him was invading my senses and his whole aura dominated me without any question.

His gaze slowly made its way from my lips to my eyes, the darker flecks of gold a bit more prominent now. "I said.." His breath tickled my lips, making my nerves burn for contact. "You don't want to know.. What I've done." My eyelids became heavy and forced their way closed as one last breath left his lips before pulling away.

I forced a heavy gulp down my throat as I tried to calm myself down. This guy... I think this guy is dangerous to me in more ways than one.

I attempted to speak a few times but nothing came out. Lucas took another drink of water before returning to his original position, ready to fall back asleep. "Thank you.. For the water." His voice held little emotion. The 'thank you' felt more like a slap good bye than an expression of gratitude.

Not knowing what else to do, I slowly stood up and walked out of his room, closing the door behind me. I walked like a zombie back to the living room where Gavin was focused on some random tv show.

His attention snapped toward me the moment I stepped in the room. I stopped beside his chair.
"How is he?"

"I regret it.."

"what."

I turned my head toward him slowly. "Everything."

He sighed "I warned you."

"I didn't expect to regret it this quickly." I plopped down on the couch adjacent to his chair

He turned his head back to the tv. "I did.."
It was hard to tell but I think I heard a speck of sympathy in his tone.

"Why won't he just tell me the truth? What is he keeping from me?"

He let out a somewhat exasperated sigh and turned off the show. "A lot more than you think. Don't blame him for this. It's the same case as before.. You don't want to know what he's hiding."

"So you know too??" These siblings are always in cahoots.

"Yes. But not all of it.. that's why I need you to trust him. He told you about our sister, right?"

I scoffed "let me guess, she's actually alive too?"

"He killed her.. Had to. she was in your exact position. She got curious about an issue that wasn't yet resolved. She forced him to tell her, and he ended up having to kill her to ensure there were no liabilities."

I sat speechless for a moment "I-"

"Now you know. So for the last time, Trust him. You are not my sister; And if you put him in a position like my sister did, it won't be him killing you.."
