Secrets

I woke up the next morning feeling a bit anxious about something.

I feel weird.

It was like feeling anxious about nothing but you know that there's something bugging your mind. You just can't point it out.

"How's first day?" Dad asked.

"It's fine," I smiled.

I poured some maple syrup on my pancake and sliced it.

"Made some friends?" Tanong ulit ni Daddy.

"Hmmm.. yeah," I said and ate my breakfast.

"Well, that's great. Names?" Singit ni Mommy.

Nginuya ko mabuti ang pagkain bago magsalita. "Easton and Calvin,"

Nagkatinginan si Mommy at Daddy. Mommy blinked her eyes repeatedly and took a sip of water.

"Oh? They are boys..." Daddy trailed off. "How about girls? Any girl friends, hija?" Pagpapatuloy niya.

I bit my lower lip as I think about Lindsay. Does she even consider me as her friend?

"Uhmm.. still working on it. Why? You guys don't want me being friends with boys?" Pabalik balik ang tingin ko sa kanila.

Mommy laughed a bit and looked at my father. "No, hija. It's totally fine, right? Amerrido?"

"Yes, I'm fine with it. But hija, you know... girls tend to be friends with girls, right?" I don't understand why he said it a bit cautiously.

"Uh-huh?" I said a bit confused.

"Nevermind, hija. If you are comfortable with the guys.. then that's fine," Daddy smiled and sipped on his coffee.

I continued eating. But then I remember what the girl in my class said.

"Mom...Dad? Why am I kept away again? I mean.. What's the exact reason for it?" I asked.

"Sweetie, we told you it's for your safety," Mommy said and looked  at Daddy.

"Safety? From what?" Tumingin ako sa kanilang dalawa. Mommy kept on looking at Daddy.

"You're gonna be late for school. I'll tell the driver to get ready, you should too," Mommy stood up and left us.

I looked at Daddy and he just sighed and gave me a sad smile.
Tumayo naman ako at kinuha ang aking bag.

"Take care, hija."

It was his parting words.

Why do I feel like they don't want to talk about it? Like they are avoiding it? Should I search about it?

Ngunit kung gusto ko malaman ang totoo, dapat sa kanila mismo manggaling. Hindi ako dapat agad na naniniwala sa mga lumalabas sa internet. Atsaka laganap ang fake news ngayon.

I will make them talk about it again once I'm home.

Habang naglalakad ako sa hallway, nakita ko ang isang pamilyar na mukha. She seems to be in a rush while rummaging through her bag.

"Ugh! Watch where you're going!" She said as she watch my books on the ground.

"Excuse me? You're the one who bumped into me," I said and started to pick my books up. Nagulat ako nang tulungan niya ako.

"Guillana," It was coming from behind me. I can't be wrong, I know who it is. The sound of his voice is stuck in my head. My heart started to pound like crazy.
