Tired

My heart pounded like it wants out of my ribcage.

"What's wrong with your hand?" Easton asked.

"Huh?" I said absentmindedly.

"You kept on looking at it for the past 10 minutes," Sabi niya at lumapit sa akin. "Here, wear these things," He handed me the gloves and safety goggles.

"It's good that Kuya Eros and Ate Guillana left some hydrogen peroxide from their last science experiment," Easton said.

"Guillana?" I won't forget that name and how maarte that girl was!

"Kaibigan ni kuya, bakit?" Tumingin siya sa akin habang hinahanda ang mga kailangan.

"Hmm..Nothing. I think I met her once," I said. So Guillana is Eros' friend, huh?

"How old is your brother?" Mabilis kong tanong. I tried so hard to sound 'not interested' Yung tipong mema tanong lang.

"He's four years older," He said at naningkit ang mga mata.

"Why do you ask?" Humalukipkip siya.

I just shrugged like it was really nothing. But in my head, I'm already computing his age. He's seventeen!

We proceeded to do the experiment. There were hydrogen peroxide, food coloring, dish soap and some yeast. Pinagsama-sama niya iyon sa isang erlenmeyer flask, and a foamy substance began to form and came out of the flask. He explained what happened and we talked about how are we going to present it tomorrow. And we're done.

"Are you sure you won't stay for dinner?" Easton asked while we're on the stairs.

"Hmm.. I think mom and dad are expecting me to have dinner with them so..."

"Tumawag ako sa mansion niyo, hija."

Pareho kaming napabaling ni Easton sa kanyang ama.

"They said that you're mom and dad are not yet home. So, I called your dad in his office and he'll be coming home late. So have dinner with us," Anyaya ni Tito Emmanuel.

If my parents are not yet home, I can eat my dinner alone in the mansion. It's not a big deal.

I was about to utter my decision when I saw Eros coming down on the stairs in a dark suit while fixing his cuffs.

He looks so dashing.

I gulped.

"So.. hija?" It was Tito Emmanuel waiting for my answer.

Mabilis naman akong bumaling kanya.

"Sure," Sabi ko at ngumiti.

"Where are you going, Kuya?" Easton asked his brother.

"I'm attending a soiree," Eros replied and brushed his hair with his fingers.

Bahagyang bumagsak ang balikat ko. So he won't be having dinner with us?

"Your brother will be attending the soiree on behalf of me. But it's still early Eros, why don't you have dinner with us? There will be a lot of presentation and talking before you can eat there," Tito Emmanuel convincing his son.

Why do I get excited whenever he is near? Or whenever we're breathing the same air?

Where is Tito Emmanuel's wife?

"So how's your first day, hija?" Tito Emmanuel said when we started eating.

I saw Eros directed his eyes to me.

"It's fine, Tito. Still adjusting though," I said and smiled. Tumango at ngumiti rin si Tito Emmanuel.

Eros and Tito Emmanuel discussed about business while Easton and I talked about our presentation tomorrow. But every now and then I looked at Eros as he answers his father's questions. When he's giving an answer it's short but very straightforward.

"I have to go," Eros said while looking at his watch.

"It's still a bit early, son."

Umiling si Eros sa ama. "I still have to pick up Guillana,"

"Oh? Why? Guillana is not going with her family?" Tanong ni Tito Emmanuel.

"Her parents flew to New York for business," Eros said.

Bakit?

"How about Pierce, her brother?" Easton butt in.

"East, you know how Pierce hates attending parties that are surrounded by adults," Eros reasoned out and Easton just shrugged.

"I have to go dad," Paalam niya at tumayo na.

I don't know why I felt a gnawing feeling inside my stomach as I watched him left.

Nagpaalam ako at nagpasalamat.

I got home and saw my mom wearing her silk robe with a glass of wine on her hands. She asked how's my day and the dinner at the Nuevas'. I told her it was fine.

She even lamented about how daddy is overworking himself.

"You look tired, hija. You should rest," She said and kissed my forehead good night.

I reflected about what happened all throughout the day.

Questions that remain unanswered and a feeling that is so foreign for me to decipher, I fell into a deep sleep.
