Chapter 45: Defensive
Adeline

"Hey Siri, what's the definition of a crush?"

"No, Siri. Crush, not crime. Disappointing." I mumble, leaning against the headboard.

My Siri responds and I listen to her, completely zoning out.

"I didn't hear a thing she said, but that's okay." Laughing to myself, I push the blanket off my body, fixing my position on the bed to lay down.

"Yah!"

Two figures yell a warrior cry before busting my room door open, running inside.

They jump on top of me and I groan, unable to move. "Get of me, you goat."

"Me or him?" Kaleb sits up, pointing between him and Easton.

"Him or me?" Easton repeats, still laying down on me.

"Both of you."

Easton laughs before kissing my forehead and I gag, pushing him off me.

He stands up and turns his back, preparing to walk away.

"Don't do that in front of me." My brother mutter, kicking Easton's butt.

Kaleb climbs onto me before laying down again, torturing me.

"Y'all dating?"

"No!" I squeal, not giving Easton a chance to speak.

"Good, she isn't allowed to have a boyfriend until she's married."

"Pardon?"

"Okay, until I go to college." He chuckles, putting his forehead against mine.

"Kaleb..." I whine, crossing my eyes.

"Okay fine. She can have one at any time, only if I approve." He murmurs and I hit my head against his. "But for real, are you guys dating?"

"No. But I do have to talk to Adeline, so maybe we can go to the park? If that's alright?" Easton questions and I look over Kaleb's shoulder, watching him rub the back of his neck.

"Can I, Kaleb?"

"Yeah, go ahead. I have nobody to murder lately so I'm chill." My brother laughs to himself before his expression goes blank. "Except for those bitches, but I can't hit girls."

"Kay, thanks. I love you."

"Love you more."

"Okay. Now get off of me." I mutter, still stuck underneath him.

"Ugh, fine."

"So what's up?"

Kicking a rock, I walk alongside Easton, waiting for him to speak.

"Easton? Where are you?"

"Right here." He mutters.

Easton puts his arms behind his back before stopping at the swings, pointing to it. "Sit."

Sitting down on the swing, I push it back and start moving, still waiting for Easton to talk.

"Maybe we should take a break?"

"Take a break from what? We aren't together." Raising an eyebrow, I question him.

"Just this thing. That we were about to do." He shrugs, sitting on the swing next to mine.

"So you're telling me, that you just wanted to kiss me repeatedly? Let me get a crush? And then say it's done?"

"You like me?"

"That's besides the point! Why should-"

Easton cuts me off by groaning loudly and I stop the swing, glaring at him.

"Look, Addy. It's best if you leave me alone. Okay?" Easton grumbles, biting his lip.

"Yeah, of course. Don't worry about it."

"So it's fine? We're cool?"

"Mhmm." I hum while pressing my lips together, keeping my composure.

Crying is for babies. We're over that.

"Adeline, calm down. And please don't tell Kaleb."

"I won't. Wouldn't want you to feel hurt. Or get hurt."
