"Yup," Two-bit says casually, "The guy has been captured for three hours an' two-eighths of our gang has already been jumped" two-eighths? Since when was I apart of the group?

"You mean one-seventh?" I asked, Two-bit chuckled and put a 'casual' arm around me

"Nup, Two eighths," he said, and I shoved it off him he put a hand on his chest "Oh you hurt me, dear Juliet" he mimicked a Shakespearian accent, Even though two-bit just got jumped and beat up he still managed to be his usual joking self. I cocked an eyebrow and sighed "Two-Bit, you just got jumped how the hell are you so cheerful?" I asked, and Soda turned around

"It's Two-bit what did you expect? For him to be down in the dumps?" Soda asked as we pulled up at the Curtis house, I laughed and shrugged "Suppose your right, It is two-bit for crying out loud" I said jumping out of Steves car

"My dads bein' a dick, imma stay here too," Steve said, Two-Bit nodded to say 'ditto' we all walked in to find Ponyboy doing homework and Darrel yelling at him, as usual.

"Hey guys" Soda Yelled as we entered the small living room, Sodapop did his usual routine of throwing his jacket toward the sofa, missing it, taking his shoes off and going to the kitchen for some chocolate milk. Two-bit Jumped on the couch and turned on the television to watch, you guessed it Mickey and steve went into the kitchen to get the last piece of chocolate cake. I walked up to my room to get started on homework. Up first English a book study on the 'new' book to kill a mockingbird. after about half an hour someone came through the hatch, I turned to see Ponyboy

"Hey, Darry wanted me to tell you supper is ready," he said, I nodded, and he jumped down the ladder. I slowly got up and climbed down the ladder, Darry had made three roast chickens because all the guys in this gang eat like pigs. Darry always cooked the best food, sorry Sodapop, anyway that's all I have to say about supper. We did the dishes, and I returned to my room to continue on my catchup homework, which was easy as hell because the school in the 60s was just simpler, except math, I always sucked at math. I flipped the textbook to chapter 4, trigonometry, fucking hell.

"For any given angle, the values of sine, cosine and tangent ratios are constant" I mumbled to myself writing down the notes, god I hated this, but it had to be done or it never would, I had blocked out everything else going on: the owls and birds outside, the occasional car driving past. I had a weird nagging at the back of my mind, but I didn't think much about it "This means the value of a trigonometric can-" I heard something hit my window, Its just a falling twig or a bird I shrugged it off " can be easily found-" another thing hit my window "Can be easily found on a-" another thing, it was now obvious to me that it wasn't a twig or a bird "Oh my god" I said pushing myself off the chair and looking at the clock hanging on my wall 12:23, Jesus I really am crap at math "This better be good" I mumbled to myself walking the few steps to reach the small window. I yanked it open instantly feeling the freezing air hit my face, I shivered slightly and looked around, all I could see the sparkling lights of Tulsa city in the distance. I looked down at the lawn to see someone standing at the base of my window, I squinted my eyes and saw a tall boy with tan skin and dark hair, his brown eyes staring at me "Johnny?" I said, and I saw him nodding slightly, Jesus christ what does he want? "Wha-What are doing throwing pebbles at my window at twelve in the morning?"

"Oh-Uhm, the front door is locked, for some reason and my dad hit me an' told me to get out. I didn't really wanna sleep in the lot tonight?" he explained "I tried to throw rocks at Pony and Sodas window, but they're light sleepers. Anyway, I saw your light was on so" he glanced at his shoes "Yeah."

"Do you want to me Unlock the door for you or something?" I asked he shrugged

"Nah I got this" he grabbed a low hanging branch on the birch tree outside my window and used it to fling himself up to the ledge of the window seal, and he then rolled into the room and promptly hit his head on my desk chair, "Shoot" I sniggered as he quickly stood up pretending he didn't just hit his head. "Shut up" he lightly shoved my arm, he started to walk toward the trapdoor.

"oh, You know the couches have been taken by Steve and Two-Bit," I said, he turned around looking somewhat faux upset, "Damn," he said, I bit my lip.

"I mean" I laughed at my stupidity "You could always stay with me," he laughed.

"You kiddin', right," he asked, and I shook my head "Nah, I ain't doin' that" it took a second to realise what he was implying.

"Johnathon. I wasn't" I whispered loudly "I wasn't implying that you idiot" I sighed leaning on my desk "Just go to bed, I just need to finish my homework" I slumped into the chair turning back to trigonometry as Johnny pulled off his shoes and jacket before literally jumping on the bed.

"So what are ya doin'," he asked trying not to make things awkward, I rolled my eyes and scoffed "I mean I know your doin' school work but what kind."

"Trig, and it's kicking my ass" I scribbled something on my page before slamming the textbook and making Johnny jump out of his skin. I giggled and flipped my light off before getting in next to Johnny and put a pillow in between us "Don't cross the pillow" I saw him nod and I rolled over,

"Hey, Tay can I ask you sumthin'?" Johnny asked his shy, quiet personality shining through I made a weird noise to say yeah "You told me your parents beat you" he sighed "Did- did you feel sad when- when they died" my eyes widened, I sighed and rolled over to face him "You don't have to answer I was just-" I cut him off

"No, no it's ok" I rolled to face the ceiling I hadn't really thought about this. Obviously, my father wasn't really dead, but he wasn't here I didn't feel anything about him not being here, I might even enjoy it not being yelled at and kicked every night, my mother on the other hand, well I never got over her death it just got easier to deal with it, I knew Johnny was sort of asking for himself, and I didn't want my experiences to determine whether he should or shouldn't love his parents, "My father was the one who beat me, he wasn't a good dad, but I didn't really know how to feel about his death, I still don't I just shove my memories of him to the back of my mind" I lied "My mother. I loved her but she would always act like everything was fine when my father would hit her and she would always make sure I was happy. made sure I still loved my father and never let me near when dad beat her, she didn't want me to see it. But one day about ten years ago she-" my voice cracked and out of the corner of my eye I saw Johnny turn to me "-She put a bullet in her head while sitting in the bathtub and i watched her do it, thanks to my five-year-old self" the scene of her doing it started replaying in my head and i felt my eyes water and sting, Johnny noticed it and grabbed my hand

"I'm sorry," he said, I shook my head and dried my eyes

"It's ok, you didn't know. I've never told anyone what happened" I tried to will the scene away, I turned my back him "I'm just tired" I mumbled my eyes getting heavy very quickly and before I knew it I was asleep
